But for some reason only when paypal is the payment method...

Royal mail do not cover mobile phones over £34 when sent overseas. It makes no difference whether paypal or not was used, that's the RM conditions.

Obviously this case seems likely to be a scam, but in genuine cases it makes no difference how someone pays as a decent seller would reimburse regardless, wouldn't they?

Any suggestion that non paypal buyers get different treatment merely reinforces my view that if you can't use paypal backed by a credit card then you should not buy.

In this case, if the seller had not used paypal, they would still have their money.

That's a wee bit daft soo - plenty of people in this country can't get credit cards (so are you recommending that they should be yet further excluded from society by not buying on ebay?) and as we've dicussed on another thread you do have limited (if any) CC chargeback opportunities when purchases are under a £100.

OP I'm afraid your gonna loose this dispute.
I wouldn't personally deal -buying or selling - with any italian south of perugia (they're the nigerians of western europe - frauds a bit of a national/regional pastime).

I thought your beef was with paying with paypal, not being paid?

It's unsafe either way, as this thread demonstrates.

I think the mistake was sending an item that was NOT as described and the arbitrarily taking off a few quid.

You really should have discussed this with the buyer before posting. Buyer now feels you are trying to pull a fast one but unfortunately have trumped your hand with his item not received dispute. You also compounded your error by not sending by trackable means.

This should be seen as a lesson (without being to harsh on OP) of how not to go about selling on EBay.

    1. Don't send mobiles abroad.
    2. If using paypal and for amounts more than you are willing to lose don't send to a non confirmed address.
    3. If you make a mistake in your listing thrash it out with your buyer before posting, don't post and knock of a couple of quid. Buyer could easily feel ripped off!!
    4. Don't send things of any value without using a trackable service (this is for sellers protection and not the buyers).....this should be a sellers rule whether using PayPal or not. The reasons for not sending by trackable means are to save a few quid which in cases like this highlight that it can be a false economy.

Oh yes, one thread = conclusive evidence.

Hintza, I'll consider this a lesson learned, the value of the claim is £41, so I may be able to claim £34 of it back from Royal Mail.

I'll argue with Paypal, that the buyer had sent an email after receiving the goods and see what comes of it.

There's more than just one person in these forums who's lost out thanks to taking or paying with paypal...

That's not too bad, could have been a lot worse. As stated you will probably lose, but fight your corner with Paypal.

I the meantime why not keep trying to come to some sort of amicable settlement with buyer. Say offer him a £10 (15 Euro) refund he might go for that and at least you will have something.

    Good luck
