Yes - I am not disagreeing with this , I would not expect the "old bank" to write to the new bank confirming that the account has been closed though, they would merely remit the funds on the agreed date - end of matter
I would contact my existing bank and say that I countermand my previous instructions and my new instructions are to keep the account open
I think ISA transfers work in this way at the moment , the existing provider will close the account (or partial transfer) and transfer the funds (receipt of the funds is the end of the matter as far as the new provider is concerned)
Do you think that Halifax are expecting to receive a letter from the old bank after closing the account , confirming that the account has been closed ?
I doubt that the old bank will be sending a letter or that the new bank will be waiting for oneHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

However , I have just noticed point 4) in the T&c
4. Existing Bank of Scotland current account customers are not eligible for the offer.
I have a Vantage account with BOS so I guess I won't qualify for the £100 incentive

I think it is poorly worded and means that transfers from Bank of Scotland accounts to Halifax are not eligible for the incentiveHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Ooo, that sounds better!
Do standing orders count or do I have to have direct debits?
I have 2 Tesco savings accounts but have used them as DD for my Halifax reward account already.
Maybe I could cancel 1 of the Tesco DD on my reward account, put it onto my Coop account and leave 1 Tesco DD and 1 Santander DD on my Halifax reward

I just setup 2 standing orders.0

Though I wouldn't rely on banks being able to cope with receiving a request for closure and a request to ignore the request for closure (not necessarily in that sequence).0 -
Made the online application earlier this week and the confirmation said that my account details would be sent and I also thought it said my online banking details would also be sent. I already have a savings account with halifax so thought this strange.
Got a letter today saying that I need to take id into a branch and had to sign to say id recieved the t&cs and other booklets. It also said to go online to sign up for online banking? It said if i wanted to transfer my direct debits to fill in the enclosed form, unfortunatly it want enclosed! And the bit I didn't I understand: there was a signature mandate form with instructions that said 'important read carefully' it then said to send the enclosed form in a 'sealed A5 envelope to the SMD unit daily' and only fold it once in half.
Well I filled it out and posted it all back with a covering letter explaining that I have no idea where it what the SMD unit is or how I send a form 'daily' and also asking for the form that was missing. Does anyone have any idea what this is all about? I feel like it was in there by mistake?
Doesn't bode well for my new current account!
Edit: here's exactly what it said
"IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
On completion, the Specimen Signature slip below must be detached and sent to the SMD Unit daily in the pre-printed SMD Personal envelope.
Please ensure all sections are fully completed using black ink.
Please do not mark or write on the front of the specimen signature slip except in the designated boxes.
Please remove the Specimen Signature slip and send to SMD before sending the form to SMDU"
It then has boxes for name date and signature.0 -
It also said to go online to sign up for online banking?
It just means they haven't managed to match your existing profile with the profile for your new account. Just phone them up (probably the online banking helpdesk are best for this) and explain to them - they should be able to combine them straight away over the phone. Your new account will then show up on your existing online banking. (It may take a couple of days before it shows up).Does anyone have any idea what this is all about? Looks like they've sent you the internal (branches) form. Nothing to worry about, the main thing is that they have your specimen signature.0 -

Yes I did think that they may have mixed up the DD transfer form with an internal one.0 -
Will just 1 DD suffice?
I don't want to use the account that my salary goes in.
And when it says 'active DD' does this mean every month or is something like paypal ok where it's hardly ever used?0 -
