im looking to switch from Halifax to Santander, should i wait till Halifax complete the transfer for the free £100 before I start the switch to Santander?0

I have a Halifax Current Account which my main salary is paid into and it has 2 DD on it, i thought i may as well upgrade to a Reward Account to get the £5 a month offer, i know it will not qualify as a switch so no £100.
I have just checked my online upgrade offers and the Reward Account it says is not available to me, but the Ultimate Reward Account is at £15 per month.:T0 -

Roxy, I got the same message when I tried to upgrade an old easycash account that I had for beating Ryanair fees some years ago and never used.
However, the message also gives you a number to call them on. Use it. I called them and a very helpful young northern irish girl got me set up on the phone quite quickly.
FWIW, she thinks it may be a glitch with online banking, whereby when it sees you already have certain types of current account won't always let you upgrade automatically.
To summarise for others, I was told clearly that in order to qualify for the £100 switching offer and the £5pm month interest on the reward account, I simply needed to:- switch and close an active bank account elsewhere that has at least 2 direct debits
- have £750 a month coming into the new account and remain in credit
- you do not currently have to have an automated credit going into the account you are switching out of
- you don't have to pay your salary into the new account
Halifax won't be getting my salary, but they will be getting an automated credit of £2,250 a month to cover my two direct debits.
Hope that helps.

Ok thanks deeboy. I have no other bank accounts that qualify, so i think that means i cant upgrade just to get the £5 a month but i will have to get on to them.:T0

You'll then start to receive your £5 per month Reward...providing you pay in £750 per calendar month, stay in credit throughout the month, and pay two direct debits during the month.0 -

Ok i can do that no problem. Thanks.:T0 -
Just to clarify - I currently have a rewards and get the fiver (to qualify there are 2 DDs set up and i pay in 750+ as per the change in TCs a few months back). but it's not my main account.
on the website for the £100, there is no mention of switching any DDs for existing customers. (it specifies the 2 DDs for existing accounts)
what is the official line- does anyone have a link to the relevant section on the halifax website. not just hearsay of "i phoned the helpline and they said...". Not that i don't trust *you* but i don't trust the staff to know what they're talking about.
anyone switched an old account with no DDs, and did your bank write to *confirm* they were closing the account (ie. is there a chance to 'close' it but not really close it?)To summarise for others, I was told clearly that in order to qualify for the £100 switching offer and the £5pm month interest on the reward account, I simply needed to:- switch and close an active bank account elsewhere that has at least 2 direct debits

Yes I did think that they may have mixed up the DD transfer form with an internal one.
Sent back the forms and a letter asking for the direct debit transfer form and recieved an apology for getting the wrong form but instead of the DD transfer form they sent a bloody current account transfer form instead! Useless!0 -

Erm ... that's surely the form you've asked for.
A current account transfer form will do just that - transfer your current account (i.e. direct debits and standing orders) from another bank to your Halifax account.
What is the form that you are trying to get, if it's not this one?0
