Halifax £100 for EXISTING customer and free Life Insurance

Shouldn`t EXISTING customers be ringing up the Halifax and asking what they`ll give them to STAY with them!
If they say nothing, then tell them you`ll move to First Direct.
This is probably a better ploy for people that actually have money with the Halifax and not up to their eyeballs in debt and overdrafts.0 -

They won't give you anything. Unless they you count the £5 per month reward account. The best option is to just keep switching accounts for the £100 each time. If you can put up with hassle that is!!0 -
I had a letter after about a week. I was expecting an email confirmation but they obviously don't do that. 3 weeks later my application wasnt going anyway so went into the branch who told me it hasn't even been initiated and wasn't on their system! Had to start the process over again! Hopefully this time around will go more smoothly.
So that's what I did. Same online access details as before, £100 should be in my account tonight.
Only annoyance is the woman who set it up for me couldn't change my phone number in the system (it has a random one for me which I don't recognise) so I can't get text alerts of my switch. I can monitor it online I guess.0 -
Hi all, I did my switch to an existing Halifax account over the phone. It all went very smoothly. I noticed my £100 wasn't in after a couple of weeks, rang them up, and they said they would submit it for payment The £100 was credited 2 days later, with an extra £10! I got a letter today apologising for their service and that they had credited the £100 +£10 for inconvenience. Not bad since I didn't have cause to complain. If you do it over the phone you don't have to close the account you are moving from.0

I just arranged to switch my Natwest account to Halifax (Im an existing customer), put in my account details for both accounts and the next screen said: 'Confirmation of debits and credits to be transferred' and then it had a 'close' button which obviously closed the page. It just seemed extremely vague, were there any other details I should have filled in or when do you receive further information confirming the switch is in progress?
Thanks
There is very little to it - it's a very simple and straightforward process.
If you put your mobile number in, it should send you a text in a day or two.0 -

I applied online on Friday, 27th September, some time in the afternoon. There was no e-mail confirmation, but online I was told the switch would be complete by 7th October.
This morning (Tuesday, 1st October) the £100 was in my account, and I have received a letter from the old bank asking if I had requested the account closure and to phone them if I hadn't.
Very easy, and I'm very happy. One of the best two minutes I've spent.
And thanks to MSE'ers who alerted me to this. Very grateful.0 -

I received very little information throughout the whole thing. Just a letter with a PIN number then a debit card. That was it. They said they would write to my employer with my new account details but no letter was received by them so I gave them my new account details myself. I did read about a free overdraft for a period while the switch takes place but got no information about this either. I rang my DD companies and they have been changed so I assume the switch is complete?
Very poor communication from halifax.0 -
Can you do the switch via phone or does it have to be online or branch?0

I am an existing Halifax customer and I have initiated the full swtich so that they close my First Direct Account. I received a letter from First Direct yesterday saying that they have had a request to close my account down and my current credits of £74 will be moved over. I also 3700+ in their E-Savings account after my RG Saver finished. Will that also be moved over to Halifax or will I need to transfer the money in my FD 1st Account?
Thanks0
