There seems to be some confusion over BT, some say yes, others no.
In fact it depends on which part of BT you are dealing with!
Services (line rental, packages & bill payment etc.) = NO!
BT Shop (for purchasing goods) = YES!
You'd think a company as big as BT could have the same c/card policy throughout, but no.

Isnt BT Shop just a rebadge of another ecommerce site? I cannot remember for certain but it used to be a white label of Dabs. Would explain a difference in approach

Actually a quick google shows BT bought out Dabs in 2006 but it continues to be run as a whole owned but separate subsidiary

I take it only some branches of Harry Ramsdens accept Amex? Cos mine in Inverness certainly doesn't :( The one in Inverness is listed under Amex shop small yet won't accept Amex:rotfl:

    Oh No :rotfl:
I wouldn't give those toads any card details, never mind my Amex.

report the store to Amex if they didn't take the card but are listed on shop small.

This time American Express contacted each of the merchants and requested they complete the form to be on the shop small site. If they did then they are listed and they do accept American Express. Failure to do so is a breach of the merchant agreement.

You can also report a merchant online....https://www316.americanexpress.com/iFormsSecure/un/iforms.do?cuid=rapid_en_GB&evttype=0&evtsrc=link&face=en_GB&prod=Rapid&todo=view&appsrc=IFM
  • Not accepted by my university to pay fees*, nor plumb nation.

Irritating as the only reason I got the card was for the 5% cashback offer in the first 3 months, where I wanted to claw back a little of my big money items that were coming up!

*they use barclays business for the online payment system, and have opted not to pay the extra to accept amex.

Check to see if they accept it on terminals in the university if you can. One of my son's universities didn't take it online but did take for for mail order/telephone transactions and for in-person transactions. The same went for Diners Club.

Thanks for the suggestion - unfortunately not accepted in person/over the phone/online in this case!

Pizza Hut seem to do this on a franchise by franchise basis. My local branch used to accept Amex, they've just updated their systems and now no longer accept it. Was nearly very embarassing.

Had an email saying Wilko now accept Amex so hopefully Wilkinson high street stores will. If so I can use my 1 percent cash back Amex card.

Yes, they accept it on the high street now. Some stores can only take it via the magnetic stripe though (Not the chip), so after you insert it, it'll tell you to remove the card and swipe it, they'll look very confused. Just tell them to press ok on their POS and then you can swipe it.
