Had an interesting one today paying for lunch at a restaurant.
Offered the amex, with the visa in reserve, but the manager said they accepted Amex but grimaced slightly. I asked whether this was because Amex was more costly to process than visa or MasterCard, he said it was a bit more expensive but their main problem was that they were slow payers, typically 3 days for visa or mc but often two weeks for amex apparently.0 -
Anyone know if Harris + Hoole coffee shop take Amex? They're owned by Tesco, so I'm hoping they do.0

Yes, I'm pretty sure I used my Amex at one on Saturday (One on Cannon Street in London)0 -

Aldi don't accept any credit card. Only debit card or cash.Could Matalan please be added to the list for people who don't accept Amex, rather surprised at that one!
Not as surprising as John Lewis not accepting them though!
I used mine at JL not too long ago in the cafe.... Their website has the Amex logo. They must accept it...0 -

It depends where you are, Scotland and half the Welsh stores do accept credit cards. None of the English ones do. Never been to one of the Scottish ones to see which credit cards they accept but I'd be surprised if AmEx was on the list0 -

Visa debit and credit, Maestro, Delta and Electron or MasterCard credit cards only

Must be different card merchant banks or agreements in Scotland and Wales with more favourable terms for credit cards.0
