i previously was having problems with some retailers not accepting the card, but with the list its a great help

I used to work for H Samuel during the 90s and I often had the Amex "yay or nay" chat with the boss. Basically it came down to how much the customer was spending and this was at the discretion of the manager, because there wasn't actually a hard and fast rule as to whether the company did or not. I expect this is true of most stores on the "not" list, it's just too expensive for them, however this was in the days of there being only one Amex charge card, so with the advent of the Everyday credit cards it should really be more widely accepted.
Who knows, I may even have one of my own one day

Just a heads up to anyone thinking of using their Amex in Schuh. I don't know if its a different story in store but despite advice to the contrary (here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/amex-acceptance and here http://www.whoacceptsamex.co.uk/2009/06/schuh-accept-american-express/) Schuh definitely does not accept Amex online.Graduated 16 July 2013 with First Class Honours :jHouse Deposit: £6,493.10 - Cashback Total: £447.670
