Hi,
I am currently on Oil heating but can get a grant to switch to Gas. I've just been told by Just Energy I would have to have an old gas boiler to swap to a new Gas one. Why? Any ideas anyone how I can get round this one? I quality for the Gas connection and a new boiler.0 -
Sometimes I feel almost bombarded with info for grants for a free boiler or boiler repair as part of some government-backed eco scheme. Even on MSE I see pages about this.
Then my boiler broke down! So I started ringing around to see if I could get some govt grant or other towards repair or replacement.
Several hours later, the answer is, NO, I cannot get anything. It matters not if you are on a low income or ESA. There is nothing available for people in that situation.
I don't mind, but what I DO mind is that the hype ought to make it clear that these grants are only for people on certain specific benefits. Then the rest of us won't waste time and money ringing around!0 -

Is it because you do not qualify, you have no existing boiler at least 5 years old [Boiler is more than 5 years old rated from C to G and less than 86% efficient]and your property is not already I]existing[/I connected to mains gas network.
PCDB dbase is here. Best of luck.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Hi I contacted my town hall who arranged an install of a new boiler it took 6 weeks from start to finish, I'm a single parent working 20 hr per week , claim working tax credit and have a child under 16, my combi boiler was 10 years old and not working, they sent a guy to do the epc and from there I waited I was accepted with full funding:j:j:, on the morning of install the fitter had a viessmann 050w combi boiler with a 7 year warranty to replace my broken one, but they needed a extension pipe for the flue so they could move it for the correct clearance they said they would come back the next day with the part, next morning they came back with a volkera 29a compact with 2 year warranty it was easier for them as i had volkera taken out so all the pipe work was there (unhappy as this model wasnt as efficient as the first i was promised and has only 2 year warranty) but i was receiving funding so I went along with it, I was left without thermostat for 10 days after install and the company who arrange install aren't very helpful I still don't have a warranty for the boiler and its now 4 weeks since install and have made so many calls I've lost count I don't know who to contact, I'm extremely grateful for the funding and would advise anyone to go for it, just make sure you have everything before they leave0

I enquired with NPower about a free boiler. My mum and dad had their boiler replaced by them and were pleased with everything.
The surveyor has done the survey and I qualify for a new free boiler as our boiler is only 65% efficient and we are on the relevant benefits.
However the installer will only swap the boiler like for like. We currently have a regular boiler with a big hot water tank in the loft.
We are only a small family and not big users of the hot water from the tank(electric shower) and would be better off with a combi boiler.
We are willing to pay the difference as this will save us more in the long run.
Are there any companies that will do this or are there local gas installers who are part of the ECO boiler scheme? How would I find them?0 -
Hello-I have been told by British gas that because my flat is only 20 years old I would have to pay £1000 towards the FREE boiler-is this rigjht or should I try elsewhere. Thanks0

woops that should have read £1000 not £100-I have altered it now when I saw edit button-o dear me !!0

Gotaquestion62 wrote: »I don't know if anyone knows the answer to this, but here goes. My 24 year old son lives with me and is on Job Seekers (didn't know there could be different types of JSA) and also gets Disability Living Allowance. I have just been advised by British Gas who were doing the yearly service that my boiler is now no longer manufactured and cannot be serviced for much longer under their scheme. He suggested that as my son is claiming these benefits I should apply for a free boiler, however I am not sure what happens with regard to finanching this if I apply but my son is then lucky enough to get a job. Am I then responsible for the full cost of the boiler or do the initial qualifying factors mean the boiler remains free?0

Please can I ask anyone who has applied for a free boiler from EON how long it took? I initially applied months ago but they apparently couldn't contact me though they had my correct details so I re-applied 8 weeks ago and had an energy assessment 6 weeks ago, which was passed to EON on 17/10. Since then I have called a few times and was at one point told that our application had passed through their Audit department but last week was told this was not the case and it was actually still with Audit, I was advised to call again in a week (tomorrow) if I hadn't heard.
Does this time scale seem reasonable?
Many thanks0
