  • I'm starting to question if anyone ever gets a grant via EON or ends up having to pay for a new boiler themselves as the process takes so long. A condition of the application is that the boiler isn't working properly or needs repair, ours has had a leak now for several months whilst waiting for the grant but it seems unlikely this will be sorted out for weeks/months. Our application which started in August with EON is still ongoing but is now at a stand still as One Green Place do not have an installer in our area to do the technical survey and subsequent installation. Our application was passed by EON's audit department to One Green Place over two weeks ago, but I only found out this week when I called them that they are trying to appoint an installer as their last one was useless (doesn't inspire confidence), but it could be weeks.

Is anyone else having problems with EON/One Green Place?

Hi, we have just had the 1 Green Place gas heating engineer come to do the technical survery (some two months after the EPC) and have been quoted over £1000 for the "free boiler" installation. If I had the money I would just pay £1700 to a local reliable installer who can come out if any trouble! Where I am going to get £1000 I have no idea! Who is helping who under these schemes. Rubbish!
Got 2 freezing cold kids and they can't even guarantee installation before xmas IF I give the go ahead
Good luck though, maybe you will get a different quote :)
  • Well our FREE boiler was fitted last week! We now have a wonderful Potterton boiler and our house is noticeably warmer. We had an issue in that we needed the boiler earthed, it was all sorted along with installation. We didn't actually receive any paperwork until installation. We went through British Gas and this is the first time I've ever been happy with their services. I hope this info helps someone - we were quoted £250 initially, but when we asked for the details to be posted to us, we were offered it for free within days.

Really pleased to hear this :) Just been quoted over £1000 for a 'free boiler' via Eon and 1 Green place despite qualifying under tax credits etc. I will ring British Gas to see if I can get anything less than £500 :)
  • Both myself and wife are over 60, I was made redundant a year ago we now live off of work pension and savings, this is way below 16k income per year.
We however do not qualify for a free boiler as we are not on any benefits, seems we have fallen into a bit of a black hole !

the BGas engineer has just left and all approved, hopefully i will get it installed in the next few days, it will cost me £250 but for that i have to have a new pump and valves and i also get their homecare for a year. I was told by a previous engineer that the pump needs replacing anyway and my boiler was due a service. I am very impressed
  • Glad its good news Girlsmum! We were so lucky, esp. getting it for free, I hope you're left with a big smile and warm house like we've been!

It was installed last Friday, it lovely and so quite
  • Got a coldcaller today offering a 100% free cavity wall insulation for our owned detached house.

I thought you had to meet some criteria to qualify for free insulation, and I don't think we did. Our energy supplier is OVO.

Are there any pitfalls, anything I should know before I say yes ?

    Thanks.

  • Don't go with 1greenplace. They put a new boiler in for me a few weeks ago. There are several problems with the installation and no response from them now. I paid for items that were not fit and have 3 leaks.
  • I telephoned the energy advice line who advised me that I am not eligible for a free boiler as I am not in receipt of benefits even though I earn less than £16000! It's typical! Also the 0800 number advertised on your site goes through to Ireland not UK so it's incorrect.
