Geez!! My landlord wants me to apply for a free boiler. The letting agents were supposed to arrange this but it fell through. I cannot find anywhere the correct way/people to apply through.
Judging by posts on this thread it seems pointless. I am absolutely in no position to pay hundreds much less thousands of extra charges.
It all seems to have turned into a way for dodgy companies to get money from the government without actually providing what they are supposed to.
Am I right?0 -
Looks like lots of unanswered questions here, i also went to the officially linked website from the .gov site which i think was boilergrants (which later became heatthehome) then later realized that there are loads of what appear to be agency websites offering the same service so i wondered what is all this about? how do these websites get paid? they are obviously not official government sites but get paid a commission i presume, i was told it would be a 4-6 weeks wait approx. from time of applying but my boiler since broke down while waiting and i'm reading from some posts that if i can find a local gas installer who is part of the ECO boiler scheme(?) thingy then the turn around should be no more than 2 weeks, with some people getting it done within a week. Who is right here?
i am reading many conflicting posts, some say the money has run out so now everyone has to pay towards the boiler costs(?),
i'm just wondering is there a "best" option as far as these agency websites go for making the application, i'm not talking about any of the big 6 energy company sites but the sites where you can apply for the free boilers. What is the best route for making your application? local gasman or big 6 company or agency? any difference?
I tried calling the site i used (that is linked to on the .GOV website and i never get a answer, it's always a message saying busy or office closed or similar) i want to get the boiler done ASAP as im freezing!! just hope i don;t have the same experiences as some of the other posters who have made multiple applications with no luck. I'm off to try and find a local installer with funding i think.
Some advice on the huge amount of agencies and any pitfalls or perks would be useful.:A0 -
Gosh I wish I'd done this sooner. After reading the MSE guide, I called EON and asked about a free boiler. I met the criteria as I am a single parent with a child under 16, have a low income and get child tax credits. My boiler was 25+ years old and really on it's last legs and very very inefficient. The man at EON was really nice and told me he'd pass on my details to a local firm. They called me within a few days to arrange an inspection, which was carried out within 2 weeks. The only uncomfortable bit was one chap took photos of all my tax credit papers including income, etc. I'm never happy with anyone taking my personal information and far less when it's on his mobile phone! However, it was done. He told me it would be an Ideal Logic boiler. I asked him if it was a good one and he said it had mixed reviews. On checking reviews on this site and elsewhere, I'd say it has about 98% bad reviews so I was slightly concerned. I was phone by the installation company to be told it would cost me £200 because of the extra pipework which needed to be done and I agreed to this. The boiler was then installed within about 6 weeks. The engineer reassured me that he really hadn't had any bad problems with the boiler so not to worry, it also had a 2 year warranty and he was very good in leaving the place tidy. So far I am chuffed to bits and as I say, wish I'd done this sooner as my bills were very high previously.0

Morning Amazing Glaze and welcome to the Forums.
Glad you're happy with the new boiler and that all went well when you contacted us. I assume this was sorted under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme. For those who qualify, as well as boilers, there's help available with cavity wall and loft insulation. Have you asked about this?
A new boiler and better insulation will help cut your bills. There's more information about this and other ways to save money by saving energy on our website. Check out the 'Saving Energy' page. As well as a bit of a fun quiz there's lots of tips to help cut back on how much energy you use.
Thanks for taking the time to post about this Amazing Glaze. I'll pass your comments on to the team who look after the ECO scheme.

Hi Bwoyrough
I think you maybe too late. I'm more than sure the scheme closed on the 31st March so if you hadn't registered for work/replacement boiler by that date you'll be out of luck. Might be still worth ringing around, you never know.0 -
Has anyone had any work done under Warmer Streets or Lawtech Ltd? We are based in Dartford and are having issues with the building company Lawtech Ltd and the poor standard of work which has been going on for months now. Many complaints in this area but trying to find out how widespread the issues are. Thanks0

I'm naturally very suspicious of a 'good deal'!
I contacted npower about 8 weeks ago about a new boiler and after having one of their agents come along followed by Vibrant Energy Matters a few weeks later I am told that I can have a new boiler fitted FOC. Wow, then the doubts set in. Everything has been carried out over the phone, so I asked for written confirmation together with the terms & conditions. Nothing has yet arrived.
I'm probably paranoid but you do hear of these scams although I was assured that it will not cost me a penny.
Green Deal keeps being mentioned, but ECO is the one I am told is actually involved.
Have I got anything to worry about? Or am I being set up to be scammed?0 -
Reading through the last few pages, it seems like this is a scam being promoted by MSE, right?0
-
It's not a scam. It's just overly complicated which almost inevitably leads to mistakes, small print, back doors, unforeseen consequences and so on.0
