The insulation did not cause the condensation. Poor ventilation in the roof space and excess humidity caused the condensation; it was just revealed because you stopped wasting heat into your unheated loft space which lowered the temperature and you hit dew point.

Hopefully the insulation was not ruined by the water?
Or, the thicker ventilation blocked/covered the eaves ventilation.
I have seen this before and it's worth looking out for.

Not to be picky, but you always say this is "for everyone (Not NI)", but actually a large portion of Scotland also isn't eligible. You mention this restriction in one of the collapsed sections of the main article, but it might be worth saying (Not NI and some of Scotland)

    Thanks!

Hi I'm a landlord, and I have a property that has been empty for atlest 8 months and I needed a new boiler in it, as the old one does not work, however I cannot afford to buy a new one, and I was wondering if there are any government funded schemes that may be able to help me out, I also receive child benefits and working tax credit,

    Thank you in advance :)

I thought you still qualify even if you are a landlord. If not then just rent it to some low income tenants and they can apply for it for you.
  • I qualify for the Eco free boiler & insulation etc. I am having the assessment done tomorrow by Helplink, used by my supplier E.on. But if I am granted the help & the improvements are made & new boiler installed & then I move to another property after 6 months will either me or my land lord have to pay anything back? My lease is up in May, but the boiler has broken & it's unbearably freezing here with no central heating & no hot water, but my landlord has financial problems & has to sell the house this year so I have to go. But in the mean time I need a new boiler or I'll freeze to death! Will they give me a new boiler just for six months?
  • I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this for me.
When looking at whether you qualify for a replacement boiler:
Does the household income of £15,860 mean including the relevant tax credits or excluding them?
I am getting conflicting information from the Energy Saving Trust and the Energy Suppliers.
  • Hi

I am a little confused of my households eligibility for this. This is the situation. The Income Based JSA is in my partners name as he recently lost his job, I have no money coming in apart from child tax credits and child benefit as I am not working. We share all the bills and the mortgage in my name because of his bad credit rating. The JSA has to be in his name as he is looking for a job, whilst i have 2 very young children to care for it does not need to be a joint claim. So he is claiming jsa in his name and through his jsa claim he gets extra money to keep me/pass onto me for bills because he has me down as his partner. Does it matter that his name is not on the mortgage? We both live in the same house, pays the same bills, get the same low income and have children together under 16.

Thanks for reading. Hopefully someone out there knows.

The £15,860 figure does not include the tax credits or any non-taxable income. It is the same way the tax credits are calculated and is found on the second page of your award notice starting with "The income we have used to calculate your tax credits is £xxxx" or under the "Your income for the year 6 April to 5 April 2013" section.

You both may be eligible individually; you because of the tax credits and your partner because of the JSA. The safe bet would be to submit an application in your name as you receive the child tax and therefore have parental responsibility. If the JSA is recent it may be the contribution based as opposed to the income one, on top of that it must contain the qualifying child component to be eligible.
  • We have just had our gas boiler condemned and have no money to replace it. Both my son and I are on DLA but no other benefits as my husband works. I have mobility issues and my son is autistic. Our boiler is 13years old and the flue also needs replacing. The boiler is efficiency D. There are a total of 2children in the house.
Has anyone been in a similar position and received a free boiler. If so who is the best to approach ????????? Our bills are astronomical and we are seriously struggling ?????

You would not be eligible for the "free boiler scheme" with DLA alone. The Green Deal can offer finance and a rebate up to £1000 for 2 recommended improvements, including boiler replacement, via the Home Improvement Fund.

Another option may be to try the energy companies trust fund run by an organisation called Charis. You can contact Charis by phone on 01733 421 021 or visit there website at charisgrants . com
  • I am told I qualify for the 'free' boiler and the assessments have been carried out, including the technical survey. I'm now told though that I'll have to contribute a minimum £1,051.20 to have the boiler installed. Is this normal?
