I applied for a new free boiler, having just lost my job and now on JSA. The only criteria is that I'm receiving JSA and receive child benefit, both of which I do. I was turned down as the child benefit is in my partners name, child has my surname. I've lived with my partner for over 30 years but without my name on the child benefit letter I cannot get the boiler....this seems a crazy situation, those lovely folk at the child benefit agency won't even talk to me about my own child! I think there is an alternative, partner takes her name off and puts mine on, this apparently will take 12 weeks. So, if you are receiving child benefit in your name you are fine, if not don't bother wasting your time.
Now 5 days into no hot water so I'm just going to buy one...0 -
I called the number provided and the call was answered by a lad (name noted!) and all I heard was a number of lads chatting loudly amongst themselves and giggling. I started the questions but ended up hanging up because his attitude was so obnoxious ....going to make a complaint0

I was wary of a "free boiler" myself, after all if it's really free - why is it free? Still I'm on benefits so even though I needed a new boiler I knew there was no way I could afford one - let alone risk taking a gamble on a "free boiler". In the end I found out about some ECO deal where the state pays towards the cost of a new boiler. I'm due to get my place assessed to see how much I can squeeze off the gov't funding towards the cost of a new boiler. My gaff isn't the warmest but I know that stl heating, the local firm I'm using won't leave me high and dry - as i checked their customer reviews first.0

Have to say I'm at my wits end !!
My mother is 71 and living in a nice bungalow that she owns.
Early winter of this year, she had persistent problems with the boiler that provides heating and hot water.
Workmen came....eventually and basically re-set the Safety device which cut supply of gas and water to the system.
Basically. They say the system has a leak and is unsafe to use.
HMMM So, my question is, how does a 71 year old pensioner go about getting help to pay for a new boiler?
Every single company i've spoken to and e-mailed. And believe me. There are plenty of them! Says exactly the same thing.
That they only do deals under the green boiler scheme and the particular model my mother has is not covered!
So apparently it's a nice efficient boiler! Just no darn good because it leaks!!
I know we live in a time of nobody gets something for nothing. But are they seriously expecting pensioners to buy a new boiler every seven years once the guarantee expires? And if so. How do they do it?0 -
My parents are both in their late 70's, live in an area which has NO gas and are in desperate need of a new combi boiler which is oil fired. They are on Pension credits. Can they get a grant to replace their old boiler?
Many Thanks

HI everyone, I have just had to move into a bungalow. Since being here the electrics were condemned and I had to have a full rewire. I have now found out that the central heating system is running off the wrong piping and that I have 6 radiators running off one fee, which does not heat the house, After another plumber coming today he said that my boiler is too low a kw boiler for purpose. I am on DLA living and care components and also receive ESa. Am I eligible for a grant to help replace the boiler and the radiator piping?0

Have tried the EPG system they quoted £10,000 for a 3 bed semi detatched for cavity and loft insulation, but we might get some relief as the house is in a energy deprived zone.
B.Gas after some chasing are sending a surveyor around next week for free cavity and loft insulation.
According to B.Gas today No FRee boilers are available despite the fact thst my boiler apparantly is pumping three times as much gas as the normal house! Unsustainable £1000 a quarter gas bills! Anybody any ideas please?0 -
I am helping mum (who is 81 & on the applicable benefits) to apply for a new (& hopefully free) boiler.
I thought I had followed the link to the approved "government" website, but I may have inadvertently used one of the advert sites.
I was alerted when they told us "Please do not apply on any other website. Doing so could significantly delay your application"???.
the one we used was boilergrants.info, but there's co.uk, & .org & all appear to be different.
Are they all "approved" ?
Are there any to beware of ?
They are sending somebody round later today - what should we be asking them?0 -
I've just had a survey (if you call it that) for cavity insulation. Basically, because we have a single storey new extension on the back (which means only 3 walls would be done) then we wouldn't meet the rules set by BG. If we went directly to the company they would do it but BG don't allow the same solution to be done under the green scheme. I was also told that because we have new heating system, new windows etc that our carbon emissions wouldn't be that high so again BG would probably rule us out.0

Quick update to my last post. After BG said NO we had a cold caller representing Mark Group. They have already booked us in for Cavity Wall insulation in a few weeks time, totally free. Their only stipulation was that 50% of the house needed to be done to qualify. So who knows what BG are doing with their scheme. It would seem they are certainly not utilising all the grant for the benefit of the customer.0
