What was the last thing you bought to shut him up? If he whinges too much, put it in ebay as it evidently has stopped working...

Hi Sarah, so sorry to read about the barney with your OH. Don't know what to say except... you are not alone. For me, one of the best things about joining this forum was finding out how many of us there are struggling with debts AND unhelpful OHs.

I agree with all the others - don't get the tv.

I love ur comments Z, thanks so much....If I hadn't read ur posts before, I could quite easily take offence to ur bluntness, but u are always so right!:D
TBH I can't remeber what the last thing I bought was.... the last thing I gave into was Sky HD, but he pays that every month, as I refused to do so!

The other thing I thought of was putting him on eBay.... better wait for cheap listing day, because I don't think I'll get many bids:rotfl:

Thanks Seax, that was a bid help to me too.... I can always relate to alot of the posts about peoples OHs, because I can see mine in a lot of them!

Don't get me wrong, I love him to pieces, but I hate his attitude to money!

You've just got to spin it a little.

Not: "He winges all the time."

Try: "He provides copious amounts of wine."

Well OH and I have made up again... And I have told him he can wait for a new TV.... he didn't seem too bothered tbh, altho now I think he's in colusion with DS, as he keeps hitting the tv with his little wooden hammer!!!

Went food shopping today and spent £70, but £19 of that was on clothes for DS, and £8 of that will be refunded tomorrow (bought him some pjs, but didn't realise they were short sleeved!), otherwise an NSD....

Gotta make lunch to take to work tomorrow as no money for spends, so I have a £0 budget this week!

Glad to hear that Sarah - both that you've made up and he's shut up about the telly.

  • Well hes started up about the tv again, but we have decided that we will wait until we have sorted the garden, and then look from there..... I have got a list of conditions that he will stick to IF we do get one, including only going out once per week, working lots of overtime until it is paid off, and most importantly, he is to give up smoking the second the tv gets in the door, and I am to have the money he would spend on fags to pay off the tv. And he has agreed to taking food to work instead of buying it there (although I am not allowed to call it a packed lunch!) because he is getting fat, and because he is spending money on food at work that isn't really edible! All in all, not a bad deal, and it keeps him happy and in the house, which in the long run, saves us money..... I know I have technically caved, but it will SO be worth it just for the giving up smoking alone!!! And besides, we have to do the garden first....
We are splitting the garden in two, half for Charlie and half for Connor/us, hopefully that will only cost £100-£150, and I have told OH that we can't buy the tv at least until that is done or we will have no money to buy food with this month! He seems happy enough!
Have got this week off work, so want to try and get a few more things onto eBay, after my unsuccessful attempts last time... Still got a nice basket or two full, so will try to stagger that a bit so that I don't end up with 20 parcels to post :D

Otherwise that is it for now.... OH thinks we have no cash left until pay day, but I am secretly sat on £185, and hope to use as little of that as possible so I can pay it off a debt at the end of the month.....

  • Oh and I also need to check when the insurance and breakdown is due, plus the MOT, find out when my phone contract is up and look for a better deal, find a decent ISA for this year (yes I have secret savings! :D ) and a whole host of other things..... and it hasn't stopped raining since we left the DIY shop
