Legal action against School due to the cost of School uniforms, Please advise

I'm genuinely confused by this.
Again confused, if you can seriously buy the same uniform elsewhere (is it direct from the suppliers maybe?) then do so. If it's got the school logo on it then the school will have no idea where it comes from them or the suppliers.
Personally I think the prices are very reasonable but it's all relevant isn't it, if you can't afford it. Does your council have school clothing grants available, if so you could aplly to them to see if you are eligible.
I was thinking that too
A few people did not seem to read through all my post and in the process making incorrect assumption.
There has been quite a few other posters who have provided evidence of paying up to X 4 of what I stated in my original post which explains why I said "this might be nothing compared to what others are paying"
Also make no mistake I can afford to buy these uniform with or without child benefit but as much as I can afford it am pretty sure there are others that cannot not, but a very important reason for the post was not just because or me or my kids its about the schools and their policy of mandating pupils wearing only school produced logo'ed uniforms. Am pretty sure I ve seen a petition along this line somewhere calling for government to step in.

Don't EVER make the mistake of thinking that just because YOU disagree with something your kids school does other parents will feel exactly as you do; unless, of course, you have canvassed opinion.
As an example - you know those zig-zag lines outside schools; where parents aren't supposed to park/drop off children? There are many, many parents who COMPLETELY disregard the law and park exactly where they like, because they cannot be bothered to walk. In other words, OP, you are entering a world where some people do not give two hoots about 'right' and 'wrong'. And, while I'm at it, you might want to label the unform you're buying, in case some of it 'walks'...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Hi All,
I am not sure this is the right forum but I would like to ask for advice on this if its worth taking up or not.
My kid's school recently turned to an Academy and they are charging extortionate prices for the new uniform which is compulsory come September.
If the prerogatives of the school/council/government is for the kids to be educated, why make it compulsory for pupils to buy uniforms only from the school at prices that is not fair to anyone but the school.
I need advice please or suggestions if there is any existing thread/action along this line.
Thanks in advance.

Tie £3.50
School Fleece £15.45
PE T-Shirt £3.95

PE Bag £3.90
Total £44.26
I appreciate this is nothing compare to what some other schools are charging or that some people might consider this whining unnecessarily but I am sure a few other people feels the same way.
The same set of uniform cost far less if bought from else where and considering how fast kids grow, one might end up spending a fortune on a yearly basis if you have a medium school age family.
That's a darn good price and far from extortionate!I don't see the problem.
Wait until they're in secondary school, you'll have a coronary! If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
it may seem reasonable to those who have one child at a school - but, what about those who have twins and an older or younger sibling at that school? and one set of uniform isn't enough - a child needs two sets of the basic uniform. That is six sets of uniform - nearly £300!
For younger siblings...handmedowns?
It's a sort of expected cost of more children, surely, they will wear more and eat more and cost more in activities than one child.0 -
The prices OP quoted are similar to what I pay.
My niece goes to a fee paying school and it's dresses and blazers in the Summer, and pinafores and dresses in the Winter, plus flippin duffle coats, hats etc and it can only be bought from one very expensive supplier !! However, I suppose when money is no object

For goodness sake... being a student on a Law course does not an expert make!
You need to learn that battles need to be chosen carefully and the pros and cons weighed up (along with the prospect of success)...
You now say you can afford the costs. You have not mentioned having any evidence to suggest that other parents have any objections... so, what's your problem?
Are you just looking for a reason to have a bit of a practical application of your newly acquired knowledge? Well, you have a lot more to learn as you clearly haven't presented a compelling case here nor have you apparently researched your subject sufficiently to be on steady ground.
Back to the books!:hello:0 -
These prices are significantly reduced on last years... but here you go.. price list for the 'cheap' uniform I have to get for 3 of mine.. The scarf is laughable!!! The children aren't even allowed to wear hats or gloves on site and are not allowed their own coats.. that one REALLY annoys me! I'd just buy 1 coat for every day now I buy a school coat and a weekend coat.
I'll see if I can find the expensive uniform list, my last one left there last summer so I'm not sure how much their prices have changed in 2 years.
ETA .. These prices are cheaper too.. I'd LOVE to know why.. I might just email the governors..
See if I can get a refund!
Pigpen, I'm so glad my youngest son doesn't go to the school on your second price list - the uniform shoes are too small! He's 13 and takes a size 14 shoe, size 15 trainers  (which I can fortunately get from Wyndsors at the moment). I'm hoping his feet don't continue to grow otherwise I'll have to buy from a specialist shop, costing an awful lot more than I currently pay!0 -
At the end of the day, the school can set whatever rules they want, if you're not happy to pay the price they set for uniform or agree with their policy on strict enforcement of said uniform you can always move your kids to a different school.Aug GC £63.23/£200, Total Savings £00

I have just started a GDL hence my straight thinking of taking legal action which I know will be appreciated by any affected parents.
And this course that you've just started has given you the notion that's it's a good idea to take legal action against the school your children attend because you feel that some parents (not you though) will be affected by this new uniform cost?
Really?? You didn't feel it might be better just talking to the head teacher or governors about it.Tiddlywinks wrote: »You need to learn that battles need to be chosen carefully and the pros and cons weighed up (along with the prospect of success)...
Now that's good advice, did you learn that from a GDL or was it just common sense?

I think Asda has a petition going for just this.Perhaps I didnt make my whole intention clear , this is just not about the cost but the fact that kids are not allowed into class if the uniform is not 100% as provided by the school, I dont want compensation but I am talking more along the line of allowing parents to decide if they want to buy from the school or elsewhere, as long as it confirms to the uniform standards
And I think it is dear compared to supermarkets where you can get polo tops for as low as £1, and £16 for a school fleece is pretty steep. Plus its not like you would only need one of everything either. Blah I hate schools anyway, it's all just another way of taking control over you.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000
