I was thinking that, it would only really be the polos, sweatshirts and trousers/skirts you'd need more than one of. Everything else 1 is enough.0 -

lol.. voluntary aided normal school.. the prices are horrific.. thankfully he has now left but 2 boys there and NOTHING can be handed down because they trashed it all..
They had uniform swimming trunks at £15.. plain navy.. but the all important school logo!! woolly jumpers at £30 a pop.. seriously nutty!! Have you tried getting white lace up plimsolls in a mens size 11????? £20!!! They even had their own school shoes at £40-£60 a pair.. and they were just the same as DM casual shoes with thin soles! We got the DM's.
I refused the £15 for a pair of plain navy football socks though.. so they 'gave' him a pair!
Marker it is the attitude of someone who thinks it is laughable that someone thinks those prices are expensive.. just put rather more bluntly than some of the more delicately mannered posters did.. I would be delighted if ours was so cheap.. I'd probably cry with relief at not having to budget 4 months money on it! You pay more than that for supermarket ranges.. unless you can find the right size in the limited value ranges.. though the quality of the school ones is usually (not always I admit) better..
One of the schools here had a huge problem with getting children in in uniform then they realised (new head.. seems this one had a bit of sense) the parents of said children were on very low incomes and couldn't afford the prices they were charging so they downgraded from shirts/ties to poloshirts and blazers at a fraction of the cost.. hey presto.. children in uniform!! The average 'set' went from over £100 to around £50... so while the quality is not amazing it is affordable and as a result the children look so much nicer.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

Children are expensive, and the OP is lucky their school allows supermarket branded trousers etc, many schools don't.
To be honest with you. When deciding to have my children I thought about many things, where they'll go to school, how I save for their future etc. One thing I didn't think about is the cost of school uniform.
To spend £1000 on the basics for your children for school uniform is ridiculous. Something I would NEVER do!
As for school shoes. My dd is the girl that will trip over thin air. All her shoes are in terrible condition. ALL were bought at Christmas
Anyway in her old school she started in September, and buy June she was on her forth pair of school shoes. I received a snottogram from her school because of the state of her shoes, requesting I buy her a new pair (which were 2 weeks old at the time). By that time there was only a few weeks left of term, so I sent a snotogram back along with the receipt of her shoes, and basically told them under no circumstance was I purchasing a fifth pair of shoes for the remaining 3 weeks of term, as by the new term her feet would have grown and she'd need a new pair again. I heard nothing back!
This year I am proud to say I have only bought one pair of shoes. They are starting to scuff, but they will last well until end of term.99.9% of my posts include sarcasm!Touch my bum :money:Tesco - £1000 , Carpet - £20, Barclaycard - £50, HSBC - £50 + Car - £1700SAVED =£0Debts - £28500 -
it may seem reasonable to those who have one child at a school - but, what about those who have twins and an older or younger sibling at that school? and one set of uniform isn't enough - a child needs two sets of the basic uniform. That is six sets of uniform - nearly £300!
That is what 3-4 months of the child benefit goes on in here.. uniform and shoes.. then bags and contents.. that is what it is for!!
It isn't like having to buy it is a sudden shock it can be budgeted for throughout the year.. like Christmas!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

You are lucky, my kids's shoes were bought during the Easter break and 2 of them are in a state right now.0 -

The two bits I have quoted. Clearly to YOU those prices are affordable. Maybe that's because you have a small mortgage, limited outgoings, no social life. Whatever the reason the amount is affordable to YOU. To laugh at someone for maybe being 'poorer' than you is inexcusable.
FYI, my dd's uniform (minus shoes, see above) is between £15 - £20 so the OP's is double what I pay.
What I am trying to get at is peoples views on what is expensive and what is not is personal. We may earn exactly the same, have same size family and outgoings etc. You may spend £20 on a steak without battering an eyelid, I on the other hand would hover over the £10 steak. I NEVER thought I would spend that much! But over the full year summer and winter uniform. PE kits and bags and rugby shirts for school presentations, flecces, school coats etc I think £1000k on 3 children having 3 sets of uniorm was quite MSE on my part lol!!0 -

WOW I would balk at those prices! My a$$ squeaked at the £46 blazer when the eldest went from junior prices to senior lol!0 -

Yes, it's tough having twins, but by the time you get to buying school uniform it's hardly a surprise that you have to pay double, you just have to get on with it.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
OP - you do need to get a grip on reality.
That is cheap uniform.
I'm just having to buy my son's moving into secondary - the jumpers are £25 each before I've even started on anything else!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
