It was rife around here! I just never understood it as it looked uncomfortable and I would have been constantly hiking them up in case they completely fell down!

I've seen them, obviously, just not school boys in uniform with their pants showing. Unlike the girls in the uniforms with their foofs showing!!!

Gawd alive, I worked in Court, I've seen all manner of dress (and undress), from head to food in leopardskin, various Vicky Pollards, rude slogan t-shirts and even a red indian! It must be fun looking out of your office window in this weather at the various states of undress on the beach! _pale__pale_

And it looks like we made it once again

I was at school in the late 50s/early 60s - at a grammar school where the uniform rules were strict ...indoor/outdoor shoes anyone????? Headwear was obligatory - up to the 5th year we wore velour hats in the winter, straw boaters in the summer. In the VIth form, we were allowed berets - but they had to show the badge quite clearly. I can remember that we would carefully backcomb our hair, lacquer it with the "glue" that we used then ...and carefully pin the beret, showing the badge right at the back of our heads - from the front it could not be seen - but we were wearing them - with badge showing - from the back!
