  • I am absolutely shattered after a 5.30am start but made a fantastic £158 afters sellers fees £152 I can add the £10 change float to this so today £162 in the pot. Only £168 to find :j
This time last week we were panicking how we could get together the £3300 required. I have about 6 weeks to make the final bit, I am hoping I can make extra £100 so my mum can treat herself may be to a nice hair cut. One of the last things dad said to her was get your bloody hair cut woman :rotfl:
I will be going home soon as the kids go back to school next week, I am looking forward to regaining some control over my own finances but feel guilty leaving my mum :(
Tomorrow I am taking the kids and my mum out for the day I am hoping it will be a cheap day chips and Ice cream and a wonder around the seaside shops. I have promised the kids £1 for something in the £1 shop. I may have to see if I can borrow a buggy for DD1 as her in-turned foot hurts if she walks on it for to long.

  • WELL DONE on managing to raise the money you needed to find at such a difficult time, that has been some challenge for you. Will you be able to find the other £168 in time, or is it that part that you have 6 weeks to pay?

Fingers crossed you can get the extra to get your mum a nice haircut, especially at your Dads request!! Could you keep an eye on your local groupon or similar to see if you could get it as a deal? The thought would still be there even if it was a deal.

Hope you have a lovely day with the kids and your mum, you all deserve it.

  • The figures have changed slightly as we have had the full quote in now plus my older sister didn't pay the full amount she offered so will need to work out fully what we still need to get together. We have until a month after the funeral to settle the account so the £168 will come in to that. Unfortunately due to my dad's medical history he couldn't get insurance and those who would insure him the premium was more than my mortgage each month!
We have paid the funeral directors £1100 today with another £600 ready to pay, Monday we are taking the gold in to town where we have been quoted £153 and we will see what they offer for the gold sovereign we have found in the cupboard (as you do :rotfl:) I also have more stuff on ebay and 2 car boot sales left to do :).

On personal money saving news I have got a lift to my mums the day before the funeral which will be free and saves taking 2 cars on a 200 mile round trip (hubby coming down day of funeral) :T I have also joined Ninjasavingcats challenge to try and get through the next month with no money
I have put £400 down as my petrol budget but now DS gets the coach to school this should see us with plenty left over at the end of the month. I was putting £40 a week in but reckon if I don't go out next month £10 a week should be more than enough to take DD1 to and from school... will power required :o
I have paid for DD1 to have her second ever hair cut she had one at 18 months for our wedding and now at 4 so she will be starting school with a smart new bob :D £7.50 well spent. I am also getting my hair cut tomorrow my nephews friend is doing it for free but I will give her £10.
I am looking forward to going home on Monday I haven't seen my husband much in the last 2 1/2 months but am nervous about leaving my mum :(

    Debt-free and Proud!
So sorry to hear about your father, Little-Miss. I think it's amazing that you have gone through such trauma while trying to keep yourself afloat financially and you've not only kept yourself on track as best you could, but you have helped your family come up with what must have been a daunting sum in a very short time to honour your dad. Well done to you. I am sure he is very proud of you.

  • Thank you all x
I have raised another £234 on ebay today for my mum I just need to work out the fees before I withdraw and pay funeral directors.
My DH took DM to a gold place on Monday and she walked out with £330 for 2 items DH took them in to be valued the week before and was offered less, the person remembered him and as he walked in said the price of gold has risen :j
I have a double garage which is close to bursting with all the bits family and friends have donated for another car boot or 2, I may pick a few bits out and try and sell via facebook so I can pay a bit more.

DD1 has started school and although very shy is settling in well, although I got told off by her teacher for not putting her name in her jumper :o
DS has also started his new school and is now getting the free coach mornings and evenings I am hoping my £400 petrol budget can soon be decreased :D I have kept it at £400 this month as DH is using my larger car for work, he gave his car to my mum as she is having problems with hers. I am hoping we can get my mums on the road and sell it ASAP to get another cheap to run car.
DH has decided to look for another job with better hours and conditions hopefully closer to home if he found a nice job in our home town he could drop his wages slightly as the petrol savings alone would be huge.
I have had a bit of a spending splurge today :o A few bits for the girls and a few cases of larger and cider.

  • Wow £234 on ebay is amazing! I hope after fee's etc you still have a good bit left. You've done so well raising the money you need and to have loads of stuff left in the garage for carbooting is brill.

Thats also a good amount for gold, it all helps.

Hope you're all doing okay, have a great weekend,

  • Well DD1 didn't quite go in to school full of bounce this morning, it was the first time I have ever left her and she cried and clung to me, normally she don't even say good bye. The teachers had to prise her from me and carry her in :( The school phoned me within 20 minutes of getting home to say she was fine and playing happily :D
Posted ebay parcel so will wait for feedback and withdraw what I can!
I have been chasing my tail with housework  The house had the full works today then DD1 came home from school and it looks like I have done nothing. I really don't know why I even bother :rotfl:
I'm not even going to mention money :o:rotfl::eek:

Oh Little Miss, I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. Big hugs to you. Your work on raising funeral funds must be commended. In your time of grief as well. You're so strong.

What a fab result regarding the gold prices.

I feel the same way with housework. I seem to spend hours doing jobs here and there and my house always looks like a tip! Hopefully Monday morning will be different and your DD will be happy for you to leave her at school now she knows it's just as fun as her pre-school

Hope you have a lovely weekend and good luck if you're doing another car boot x

  • Aww Little-Miss its not a nice feeling when they have to be prized off your leg to go into school! My DD goes in perfect for the childminder, but any days I have to take her its almost always a fuss! I've got to the point now, where I just let the teacher peel her, and just say "Bye have a nice day!" like normal.... I know she's fine within 2 minutes of me being out of sight, and I'm sure other mothers must think, what a hard faced cow of a mother that kid has, but hey ho!

    Hope you are fine,
