    Hi Little Miss

I am really sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he has some fight left. :(

Sounds like you are doing everything you can for your mum so she is lucky to have your support.

    Well done on the savings

  • I am still around but on Thursday last week we were called to the hospital as they didn't expect my dad to make the night. He is still fighting but getting weaker.
I don't have a laptop here as I left in a rush so don't know what is happening money wise which is frightening!
DD1 is going on holiday with one of my Aunties we are just waiting for her to be collected. I have spent the last week trying to sort through my mums house 1 room sorted going to start another today before hospital visiting.
Hope everyone is well, I have not caught up on diary's yet but hopefully DH will get my laptop for me next week.

I have been lurking on your diary for a few weeks. And just wanted to say what sad news that is about your Dad. I hope he passed in a peaceful and dignified way.

Make sure you look after yourself as well as your family. All you can do is keep breathing right now.

  • Ah little-miss I am so sorry to hear your Dad has passed away. Sending you hugs and hoping you are all okay. I am sure you'll all be taking good care of each other, and your mum will take great comfort in the fact that you are there for her.

Keep strong, and remember we are all here if you need to write,

  • Thank you all, it has been an emotional couple of days but the practical side of me has kicked in and we are now raising funds for the funeral we are not far off I have chucked my £500 credit card money in the pot my BIL has matched this and my other sister has £400, my mum has sold her shares which will be another £400, we have been offered £150 for a bracelet and £180 for a gold coin. I think we are £1500 short we will know for sure tomorrow after the funeral directors have been.
I am loading lots of dads collectables on ebay my mum feels incredibly guilty having to sell all the bits and feels she is already clearing all his stuff this is not the case its so he can have a good send off, he worked hard all his life and has loads of the more sentimental items which she will treasure. Extended family have donated lots for a carboot which we will be doing on Thursday and Sunday.
So I have 1 week to raise approx £1500 for my mum keep everything crossed for me!

  • Good Luck with raising the money you need Little-Miss, you seem to be channelling all your energy into it which I guess is good to have something positive to focus on at such a sad time for you all.

Would the funeral director allow you to pay what you have upfront and then pay the rest at a later date if it takes a bit of pressure off you to raise it before the funeral takes place.

I'm sure your mum will have loads of cherished memories of your dad that can never be sold or cleared away - thats the important stuff, more than the collectables etc.

Will keep you in my thoughts and hope things work out okay.

  • Well the funeral director has been and mum is a lot less stressed now. We have until a month after the funeral to pay with no penalties after a month a £250 handling fee will be applied. If we can pay in full before the funeral we will get a discount. Mum's work are reducing her hours from 19 to 16 hrs a week so she should be able to claim a funeral grant. The funeral directors will pay this back to us if we raise the money first.
This has to be the biggest lesson and motivator for getting out of debt, I should with our income have been able to pay everything and not worried about money at such a sad time.
DD1 has a hospital appointment today for her in-turned foot hopefully they won't want to operate although it seems to be getting worse.
DH's wages go in next week and is enough to cover the rent, mortgage and start of the month bills. When I return home I will get the new balances for debt and update the figures.
