I'd be moving to a house with 1 fewer rooms while she's in Oz....
Ideally that's what I would do but it's a bone of contention at the moment
I know we don't charge her enough rent, however as I've already said, with her leaving in 2 months time, I'm not going to increase it now. I'll have a talk to her and make her very aware that if/when she returns, if she wants to move back home again, it will only be on a very short term basis while she finds a job & somewhere else to live.
As for housework until then, she will be left in no doubt what is expected of her.
As for the lifts, we expect a lift from her in return now & then, so it does even itself out.0 -
Whoa, whoa, whoa. I never said anything about it making anyone a better person. All I did was point out that it's erroneous to use that in this argument as if it's STATISTICALLY normal (at this point in time...not a few generations ago or whatever...) when it isn't.I think a lot of what's considered 'normal' in British culture is not normal at all for the vast majority of human beings, and doesn't make anybody a better person. Who are you to judge another family's set up?0 -
Just a little update; I had a chat with her a couple of days ago about the amount of housework she has been (or not) doing and she did agree that she could do more. I explained that we have no problem with her going out for the day but she should make arrangements to go out after she has done her share of the housework.
She seems to have taken it all on board and has done a fair bit since our chat without my having to ask her.
The chat about if/when she returns from Australia will come at a later date, one thing at a time
However, what we haven't told her yet is that we are looking to do some work in our house, turning our 5 bed into a 4 bed by turning one bedroom into an en suite/dressing room. Her current room will become a guest room and the only spare room left will be the small bedroom, big enough for a single bed, wardrobe & chest of drawers; that will be hers on a temporary basis if she returns
Thanks for all the advice, it was really appreciated and helpful.0
