She isn't far off being ready but even herself says that she wished it would be another couple of years. So much so she was thinking of resitting her AS year, as this would be funded and then going in 2 years time. Maybe then she'll feel happier leaving.

It's like saying to somebody your 17 so you must learn to drive. If they don't feel ready or would rather wait surely that's their choice.

She doesn't have to go at all this year does she? If she's not ready, maybe she could work for a year then go to uni when she feels more ready to?

Nerves are perfectly natural when thinking about going away to uni. Probably even more so when you've got a dad who practically has a breakdown if you go on holiday for a fortnight!

I don't know about other uni's or the one your daughter is looking at going to, but at my daughter's halls she has her own room and en suite within the flat but the kitchen and lounge are communal. Yes, she chose to pay more for her own bathroom, she could have save money by going into one of the other halls where the bathroom was shared too but she didn't fancy it - her choice and she realised that it would affect the amount of money she had to play with during the year. She learnt to prioritise what is important to her.

I dislike the implication that because my daughter (or any other young adult) stayed away from home she was out drinking every night and sleeping with anything that moved. She couldn't afford the drinking and has a longterm boyfriend who spent alot of time with her. Not every student is that way inclined and if they aren't before they go there is no reason why their good sense would evaporate just because they have moved away.

Doesn't really sound as if she had the student experience then if she couldn't afford a drink and couldn't look at a lad of the opposite sex.

    Some do, some don't.

They don't tend to just wait around in their parents' homes sighing and keeping their virtue intact until a handsome man comes a-courting though.

    Or woman..

I gather that, for those unsure of the concept of "two ladies", obscure corners of the Internet have pictures. Or even video. Quite a lot of video, actually.

I've just told her what you have put. She looked very confused and said she went out when she wanted and that was enough for her. She did go out and drink, just not to the excess that you seem to think all students do. I have seen the pictures of her various trips out in cheap costumes picked up from ebay and charity shops. It's her choice to have boyfriend and I am pleased that in making that choice she isn't then cheating on him or having one night stands. I wouldn't want the type of student experience you seem to think they all have.

But that's your rather limited idea of the student experience.
