Afternoon,
A spendy day for me today at £21.
NSK - i'm glad you talked to your big boss - you are a long time at work.
His missus - what a great feeling to have the credit card working for you.
I felt so broody at work today. A lady was leaving to go off on maternity and she's due in 3 weeks. Everybody in the office went baby/pregnant woman mad. Oh well, once this debt has gone, that can be me!:rudolf: DF by Xmas 2018: #83 £8,250/£15,000 55% :rudolf:

Evening all...
One word. YOWZERS.
Earlier this month I said I was going to save all of my receipts, so that I could look back at what I'd spent. I'd also talked about resisting buying things and only shopping when my debts were cleared. I talked about living within my means and trying to live frugally.
This is my confession!!!
Allocated monthly budget (food/spends) = £120.00
Total spent so far = £310.12!!!
Breakdown:
Un-budgeted clothes = £53.98
Non-essential gifts = £22.25
Take Away/Coffees/Lunches out = £81.94
Toiletries = £32.54
Food shopping = £119.41 (of which Junk food = £14.68 and £104.73 was healthy food)
Of this £310.12 spent:
Paid in cash = £136.61
Put on credit card = £173.51
(Additional (but necessary) fuel also put on credit card = £30.00)
So in summary,
FOOD/SPENDS: Had I just bought healthy food, I'd have come in at pretty much £120.00 (all the food has/will be used). This would have left no spending money.
PLAN: New food allowance next month = £120.00, but see where savings could have been made. Go back to separate spend and food budgets, allowing an extra £50.00 for miscellaneous spends.
FUEL: Budgeted £60.00, spent £90.00
PLAN: Review fuel allowance and increase to £90.00
TOILETRIES: Ok so I spent £32.54. All were essentials and bought frugally (toothpaste - on offer, toothbrushes - on offer, sun lotion - on offer, moisturiser - on offer).
PLAN: Instead of buying in one fell swoop - try and buy here and there from spend money. I should be able to do this without having a separate budget I feel.
CREDIT CARD: I am now an extra £203.51 in debt! I like having the card as a back up and there in case I need it, but actually - I have to face the fact I can't really count on myself to keep it from being used.
PLAN: Cut it up, but don't close the account. IF I urgently need extra funds (above and beyond what I have in my Emergency Fund) then I can write and ask for a new card, which may take a few days to arrive. That way I can't take it into stores and spend.
CLOTHES: Truth - my summer wardrobe was pretty shabby. For my £53.98 I got 2 x Tshirts, some flip-flops, and 3 pairs of shorts.
PLAN: I have enough to see me through to Winter now. If I want the odd t-shirt it must come out of my £50/month spends.
HOLIDAY: I have a long weekend away coming up, and no holiday fund as such.
PLAN: Allow £50 next month - then put away £10 per month for such occasions.
So - a bit of a revelation - and I am SO GLAD I did this, this month. It has really shone a light on where my money has been going - and what I need to tighten up on, and do to get back on track...
BIG SPANKS (and not in a good way!) for Abundant...
but also am going to tell myself well done for NOT burying my head in the sand on this one...Of course the challenge will be sticking to my new budget and keeping a reign on spending... and finding ways to clear the extra debt.
Have a good evening all...

Additional:
New budget done.
- £375.00 Direct Debit still going out.
- Only have £5.00 spare to put towards the credit card. However, last month I earned above what I'd expected, so all additional earnings will plough into the card...
- Credit Card cut up, and total on card now added to debt totals and % adjustment made
This evaluation is a GOOD thing. It only took me a month to recognise my slip and catch it. This is the behaviour I had been living for years which got me into so much debt in the first place.
I REFUSE to go back there.
I MUST make changes and STOP living beyond my means.
I WILL do this.⭐ DEBT FREE : 18/02/2025 ⭐

Abundant I am about to do what you have just done! I spend in Lidls today and bought myself an ice box for an impending Sunday trip to the beach... more vegetables and fruit.. the list goes on. I added something from Amazon yesterday as well that requires more explanation than I can give right now and is possibly perpetuated by my Uncles current stomach cancer and his wife's bowel cancer... you seriously can't take your health for granted. I am not going to any more..
Work went mental today hence I couldn't check in - sorry folks! Seems like others are out and about anyway.. but I will be writing a lot more tomorrow but Mog and I are off to bed.........

Morning all...
I feel so much better for coming clean yesterday. Don't think it didn't cross my mind to sweep it under the rug and 'pretend' all was well... But then that leads to development of bad habits and a 'this is ok' mentality.
Kat - sorry to hear about your Uncle too. Feel free to also confess your spending crimes - we won't judge (takes out large broom to bat NSK over the head with!)...
Carrying on from my confession... I want to catch my 'bad spending' habits AS SOON as they kick in - even a month is too long... Had I caught it and acted when I first put something on the credit card - that would have been even better!!! So that's my new aim. Wondering how I can remind myself? Thinking I need a padlock on my wallet hehe!!!
Have a good day folks!!!

So I said I would be honest with you and I shall be. The trigger for my health kick is wanting to shake off my inexplicable exhaustion that's been the bane of my life for the last 4 years, my skin condition which anti-biotics are not controlling and my weight.
On top of this my Uncle was admitted to hospital with stomach cancer and had 2/3's of it removed a few weeks back, "sludge" was left in his stomach for a week following his operation and not cleaned properly by the surgeons making him even worse. It was finally discovered by a Dr on his rounds wanting further checks completed - my Uncle was wasting away unable to eat due to immense discomfort. He was sent home having ben fed by a drip in hospital and thus unable to eat correctly. He was readmitted two days ago on blues and twos.
His wife was in another hospital with bowel cancer. She hasn't said much about this but realised their eating habits have to change despite being a dedicated housewife and home cooking meals for her family for the last few decades.
A colleagues mother is in hospital, on a drip, with Pneumonia, diverticulitis, a colostomy bag, sever malnutrition amoungst other things and his Dad has Alzeimers.
In the 1800's we as a nation suffered from dyptheria, tuberculosis, plague and other external factors - now we are in an era of our bodies attacking themselves - heart disease, cancer and diabetes.... there must be a cause. I refuse to suffer like this in my 70's.
Diet and careful eating is not the answer to everything but it is a massivly ignored preventative measure in the fight against diseases and I refuse to ignore it. Micro and Macro nutrients, antioxidants, phytonutrients and minerals and vitamins cannot be ignored. My diet is currently going through a massive change with more tweaks to follow. This month proved a valuble lesson in what is required - preparation wise and money wise.
I intend to be the best I can possibly be and possibly halt the aging process in the mean time...:rotfl:
So here is what I have succombed too spending wise this month...
Food
Should have been = £100
Currently Stand at = £207.39.
Gains = £70 courtesy of the Student Loan Company, £25 Holland and Barrett spend planned, and £40 Birthday Money donation.
Total without adding H&B = £97.39.
Credit Card
Should have been = £0
Currently Stands at = £482
Gains - £0
This amounts to..
£427 - essential bike maintanence.
£9.99 - new headphones
£19.99 - Magnesium Oxide supplements for healthy digestion.
£12.72 - Probiotic supplements for healthy gut flora.
£11 - petrol to get to Overtime shift and will be claimed back.
Total = £482
So I shall have to diminish what I pay to the debt next month in order to clear the CC.
I am awaiting a payment of my deposit from my old landlady who is dragging her feet and that will go straight on the debt.
Mummy's payment contributions will amount to £980
Bank auto payments will amount to £1487.15
I need to find £3002.85 before the end of the year!
I have pennies in my purse to get me to the end of the month. I will be home in Ireland when the August challenge is under way and I am funding my own food - it's not fair on my Mum if I don't.
August budget is currently being teaked but I might still be able to put an extra £350 on the loan, which will hopefully hit me at £4822.57....although I will be getting rid of that 57p..:T
That's it folks.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Well said nsk, I don't think people realise how much damage today's lifestyle does to our health... and how much of an important part good nutrition and exercise play in helping us to be healthy and happy. If only I could practise what I preach. I've been about 4 stone overweight my entire life and have tried everything to shift it but just never gotten my head into the right place. I know what I'm supposed to do, I just don't always do it.
My mum is type 2 diabetic. And I don't think that she has a clue of what a serious disease it is, as she still hasn't changed much. Just continues to pop her pills and assume that all is well. It breaks my heart that it wasn't enough to get her to be more healthy.
I suffer badly with stress (it's what I've been off work with this past month) and I'm terrible for putting myself at the bottom of the priority list most of the time. But it's so easy to grab a takeaway - and comforting too.
And don't get me started on the financial cost of eating healthy. It makes me sick that I can get a 250g bar of chocolate for the same price as a punnet of strawberries. And how much more fresh foods cost compared to value tins and packets.
Good luck with it. I'm off to see the doctor later about how I'm getting on and will no doubt be ranting about my weight as well.
Abundant, well done on your confession, and getting everything nipped in the bud straight away.
As I say, I'm off to the docs in a few mins. DS is at his last day at nursery, and this is my last day of me time so I'm intending to make the very most of it.
Have a good day everyone.Ninja Saving Turtle0
