  • On scratch mitts - we hardly needed them but I definitely preferred the built in bit on babygros because they don't fall off or get lost and you don't have ridiculously tiny things to wash.

congratulations to the new mums, beautiful picture nessie! glad youve got home safely at last!
had a dream last night that i was sleeping and then the next thing i had my baby....if only it was going to be that easy!!

although, TMI, think im starting to lose my plug, have had a few strong almost painful cramps in the last few days, they havent come to anything, but now im getting a fair bit of yellowish mucus, no blood yet so ill just keep an eye on it for now.
need baby to hold on in there until after the weekend! ive got plans! haha

KScarlet - I only packed bags yesterday although had previously started throwing things in baby's changing bag. This is my first day off from working full time and wanted to have most things ready beforehand so I could actually relax and enjoy leave and maternity leave (my maternity leave starts the day after my EDD!). I had 8 loads of washing for baby so made use of whenever the weather was nice, to put them out on the washing line. Then if I had the odd half an hour, I would make up Moses basket/sort sleep suits etc. Are you looking forward to having a little girl? I loved having my girls - there are so many pretty outfits and I'm quite girly myself. I'm a little daunted by having a boy (cleaning him etc) but am delighted for hubby, he can't wait for a bit of testosterone in the house lol. I can see this poor boy being a bit feminine with me and his two big sisters around!

Oh and don't assume you'll be late second time around; my first was 17 days late but second was 8 days early!

Re: sept/Oct babies - we ovulated early Feb and happened to coincide with hubby flying back home after being away for 4wks. What can I say? We missed each other. ;) Defo not a Xmas/New Year baby as had an awful time then.

I like the sound of getting things ready to enjoy leave :) I might try do that over next 4 weeks as I am hoping to get the sewing machine out when I am off work (that is my idea of relaxing!) are you using holiday before your leave starts? I feel a bit like I missed all the good weather for getting baby washing outside but it felt too soon. I am hoping there will be a couple of good days so I can get all the washing done. I cannot wait to have a little girl :) she was a big suprise as both families are overrun with men folk so we both assumed we would have another little boy which would have been fab. DH really wanted a daughter so I am so pleased he will have one :) I've loved buying girls outfits as there is so much more selection, I found with my son I am always dressing him in bright colours just so he isn't 'blue' all of the time but with girls clothes there is just so much more choice! I've always been bit of a tomboy growing up so I am really looking forward to having a little person to make girly LOL! I think changing boys has got to be slightly easier as you can direct them if they pee/ slightly easier to clean as you can see everything whereas the idea of changing/ washing a girl scares me, is that odd?!
It would be funny if I didn't pack my bag/ prepare due to assuming I would go overdue then I have her early!! Still can't really see if happening but I will get ready just so its one less thing to do!

Most people I know in RL are having babies this month :) a few due in November but not as many. I joke about how this is our miracle baby, 12 months of TTC, 2 MCs, the fact she's a she and how DH had worked away all month bar an odd day or two (where from what I can tell I wasn't ovulating but obviously I must have been) definatly a miracle :D

I took lots of stuff with me too Maire, but although I arrived on labour ward loaded up like a pack horse (rather DP did)I ended up using it all. We did keep a certain amount of stuff in the car boot though and just got it when needed.
The problem with my hospital is that they don't provide anything, so I needed to bring loads of stuff like blankets, towels, food and drink (they did provide food and drink but it was not very nice!). And that was just for me. I then needed all the baby's clobber including nappies and milk.

You do have to cart it about with you if you move eg from antenatal ward to delivery to theatre to postnatal ward so the 'keep it in the car until it's needed' idea is a good one.

Sounds like you don't have that much stuff compared to me anyway!

Last time I packed 2 bags; an overnight bag with basics for me/ baby and a longer stay bag that got left in car. Turns out we needed both plus more!! I will be doing this again as it saved lugging about so much stuff x

I thought this with having to be careful which way you wipe etc with little girls but I've found nappy changing DD much easier as there's no little dangly bits in the way that you have to clean around!! Also if she wees mid change it tends to just trickle downwards whereas with little boys its like a mini hose and can get all over the place!!

I packed enough for 1 night and luckily I was allowed home the next day, would have left earlier if they had let me. I lost a bit of blood from the episiotomy and LO had a mark on the back of her head from the ventouse.

I'm still confused as the dr tried to give me a blood transfusion, but I argued and she told me I'd only lost about 1 pint. I give blood when I can and they take a pint and my iron levels were very high throughout my pregnancy!?!

Anyway fingers crossed it is the same this time, but we only live 20 mins walk or 5 mins drive so DH can always pop home or 5 mins drive to the big Tescos :)

They didn't provide us with anything apart from the food which was barely edible so I took snacks from home. Fingers crossed it is at a decent hour and not on a Sunday this time so DH can buy nice food, I was ravenous, giving birth is hungry work :)
    Got married 13/11/10 :)

LOL yes as first time parents we were slightly shocked how high/ far/ how much a baby boy can pee!! I can remember him being weighed by the HV naked and he pee'd all over the scales/ wall/ ceiling/ computer/ floor/ her desk/ her top etc I was mortified!! We soon figured out just a wipe/ piece of tissue placed over his bits when changing saved a lot of mess!! x

KScarlet - we are the opposite - I'm 1 of 4 girls and I have 2 girls so cleaning a boy scares me. Dd2 has had bad IBS since she was born so am worried about how I will get that out of a willy lol. I really can see me running him a bath and swishing water at it until it looks all clean! Plus I've been told that I WILL be urinated on as apparently it's like a hose and goes everywhere. Sounds fun though. I'm looking forward to experiencing having a little boy. Yes I'm now starting 3wks A/L before maternity. I have bunting that I started sewing early sept (sewing machine started playing up) so am determined to finish it before little man comes.

This is our little miracle baby too. Dd1 is 16, DD2 is 9 and we started trying when she was 21 months. Had tests and told nothing was wrong. After 4yrs we made the tough decision that we would just be fab grandparents instead as obv wasn't meant to be. Then last yr randomly found out we were pregnant but sadly lost him end Nov and buried him wk before Xmas. By the time we talked about trying again, it turned out we were already pregnant with this one. The girls were just as devastated as we were so think this little man will be spoilt rotten.:)

aw Angel *hugs* I am so sorry you had to go through all that :( your baby boy will be here before you know it! And what fab age gaps, you potentially have an inhouse babysitter! LOL. It does go everywhere with boys when they pee but you soon get used to it and figure out tricks! I do find my son a bit tricky to clean still now so when bathing him I often shout for DH to clean his bits as I just feel like I can't clean it like he does (and it makes me feel a bit faint!) I think I might make some bunting :)

Ah Nessie, Rebecca Leigh is gorgeous! Love the mitts. I'm so broody. Just seen you're in Suffolk too - did you use West Suffolk Hospital? Hope they were ok. I've had my girls there but it was years ago.

I was in Ipswich hospital, couldn't fault them at all, some really lovely midwifes & maternity assistants - which reminds me to send in some chocolates!
