toothfairy - just because your income started higher doesnt mean its any easier taking that hit in income, in many ways it makes it worse because ur taking a bigger drop than someone on lower income.
before we started trying my husband made us sit down and go through all our finances to work out if we could afford for me to take mat leave. fortunately we could, as we're in a position where I can afford to take the whole year off. Since we did that DH has had an increase in his pay, so thankfully that makes it easier for us as well!
DH is the higher earner out of the 2 of us, i cant imagine being without his higher wage!

Thanks trina, hopefully DH should be looking at a wage increase soon, even a few hundred extra a month would be very welcome right now!
Who knew shaving legs and painting toenails could be such a tiring task?? At least if anything happens soon i will look presentable (well aware the midwives wont give two hoots but i would feel better lol)

Just thought I'd mention it- Toothfairy4 not sure what kind of birth you are having, but they tell you off for having painted toenails if you want to go in the birthing pool. I recall something to do with marking the bottom of the pool?!?
I should add this might not be all places, but this was how it was at the Heath/UHW in CardiffGot married 13/11/10
DD1 born 25/03/12
DD2 born 28/11/130 -
I was in the pool sooo long mine peeled off like cheapo stuff and it actually wasn't lol! I had my big toes without paint on em
classy!!!
Newly Married, not a 2b anymore!! Mum to two wonderful boys!0 -
Toothfairy, hope you didn't think I thought you were ungrateful? I do understand what it's like to lose a well paying income - I still miss my old wage now, almost 7 yrs later!
it's just such a world away from our circumstances and it's nice to daydream about that kind of "extra" (from what we have now) income
In some ways it's good that we're used to one income that doesn't change with maternity leave, cos we already know what to expect and how we'll manage financially
Continualdiamond, thanks for the picit's very cute. I couldn't find anything on the website that showed you it.
Congratulations lucifer, sorry it wasn't the easiest of births, but glad you're both home safe and sound now
Yay, someone below me on the list!Welcome over Rummer
Now...to go pick up the cot (45 miles away) or have a lazy day...
25+3"I am indelibly stained by hope and longing" - Nuts in May0 -
No, not at all bigzippy, i just realised i might've sounded a bit of a moaner lol.
No waterbirth for me as labour ward is getting renovated Lola, thanks though i would never have thought of it and it might help someone else0 -
Congrats Lucifer, glad baby arrived safely, even if with more drama than you would have hoped.
Toothfairy, I'm another taking a big drop in wages. Fortunately OH and I earn pretty much the same - he pays the mortgage and I pay the bills, which works out about the same, but the both of us have debts which does make things more difficult. I've saved enough to allow hopefully for 9 months off, but we have streamlined and cut our budget wherever possible, as realistically when I go back to work we'll probably be living on a similar amount due to full time nursery fees (we have no family that would be able to assist with childcare).0
