  • I know that really lol! They don't even really bother me that much, just had one meltdown about it but over it now :)
  • I love this forum, there is so much information available and when you want it, from moms that have actually been through it.

My 'babies' are now 16 & 9 so things have changed a lot since then. With my last, they clamped and cut cord but I had opted to not have the injection to help with placenta. It took an age for it to come away (although was not painful) and in the end I had to stand off the bed to let gravity take over, which it did but it was messy lol. I had recently asked about using the blood from the cord for stem cell research only to be told that now it's best for baby to allow it to stop pulsating before clamping. Does this take long to stop pulsating? Am I able to bf baby while baby is still attached to cord? Can you choose to not have the injection but if it takes quite some time, opt for it? These are probably silly questions but I really don't know the answers. TIA

It's different for each Mum and baby, sometimes only a couple of minutes, sometimes more like half an hour. The good news is that the same let-down hormones released during BFing help to expell the placenta, so if you choose to feed while the cord's still attached then this can help with a physiological third stage.

I wasn't sure if you could opt to have the synt injection later if the placenta was taking a while, but Poppy helpfully confirmed that you can :grouphug:

ETA: They're definitely not silly questions! Advice changes all the time and why would you spend time thinking / researching it when you're not expecting?

E(again!)TA: Kayalana you're definitely not alone :grouphug:

I've been asking my midwife a lot of these questions so its definitely not just you! I think she said its around 10 mins until it stops pulsating and you are encouraged to breastfeed ASAP to get the oxytocin flowing which stimulate the placenta to come away. At my hospital you can change your mind at any time about the injection or they will make the decision if they think you're likely to bleed out. HTH.
  • Thanks Amy and Lobey, that's really helpful. I did bf straight away last time but it still took an hour for placenta to come away. I'm happy to do it again but having to stand up to get it out wasn't great as I have a condition that makes me prone to blackouts/seizures. Think I'll opt to do it again but have the injection if takes too long. Thanks ladies, like to make an informed choice. :-)

  • Morning all 39 wks today - had backache an period type ache in my tummy so hoping this maybe the beginning of labour hoping its sooner rather than later :D No show as yet and braxton hicks are same as theyve been all week lots of them but infrequent.
But we all know these babies can keep us on our toes even before they are born. Off to take a bath and potter around after my other 3 as we have a football photoshoot for middle DS today.
Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait
  • Becca - sorry keep forgetting to say; thanks for the Amazon newborn nappies tip - I bought some after seeing your post plus I noticed the lansinoh bf cream was only about £6.50 (usually £10 elsewhere) so bought that too.:T

I think mine took about 25 minutes to stop pulsating but I don't know whether being in the birth pool made a difference. Yes you can breastfeed while the baby is still attached although mine didn't as she took 17 hours before she actually fed (I did try straight away and obviously at regular intervals but she just didn't). Yes you can opt to have it at any time even if you haven't had it straight away.
  • Thought I would post a bump photo as we haven't had one on here for a while... Not the best photo but it appears my long length mirror has disappeared in the move, coincidently the oh never liked it!!!!

Just found one and only advantage of having cankles.... It a lot easier to shave round there!!!!

Just had conversation with the oh why I need to be induced, had to google it... My father called me a chicken for having it done, as they refused one on me!!!

I am starting to get excited now :j:j , I know my bean will be here in a few days, even though I rather not Be induced!!! Oh is holding out for bean coming on Tuesday, as that's his other son birthday, one less birthday to remember!!!!

  • Lovely bump welsh! Good luck to all those meeting their babies soon :)

Has anyone tried the Palmer's skin therapy oil? Was running out of bio-oil and the palmer's was on offer in asda. About £6 i think? Omg it smells soooo good, a little goes a lot further than the bio oil as well!
