Thank u for all the messages, little man is doing well.
Will b home today all being well on my part when i see doc.
Totally understand what youre all saying about visitors, when i had dd i asked everyone not to visit and they all turned up, so this time i didnt say anything and actually got a few less (10 yesterday....) and im still in hospital!
People are very excited to meet him which i understand, but i'm very tired and people seem to forget what mummy's been through.Still here..... but working on that!0 -
I'm another one who would like some quiet time in hospital. I'm not bothered about what I look like, just think it would be good for me & OH to have time with the baby. That said, there is no way my parents would stay away. First (& unexpected) grandchild, they are rather excited!
Ditto on the breast feeding in that I will try & do it because I should rather than want to. The thought of sitting feeding when others are around does not appeal. I have bought a Medela electric pump but take on board the comments from other about doing things twice. We'll see. Plenty of FF babies are fit & healthy so will not stress about it.
Had a shock yesterday (positive one) at the hospital appointment. Had a growth scan (all fine) & then internal scan to check placenta position (wasn't expecting internal).
There has been some movement of the placenta & it's now 13mm away from the cervix. I had been told that it was unlikely to move after the 31 week scan.
The result is that they are continuing to monitor. I still need to take it easy to reduce the risk of bleed & have another scan in 2 weeks. There is a chance it will have moved further & if it does I may not need an early section. They could leave it to nature to take its course. It needs to be at least 20mm away to consider this. No need to be admitted to hospital for bed rest from 36 weeks (at this time).:j:j
So great news & unexpeceted. I need to get my head around a possible natural birth & possibly not meeting my baby at 38 weeks. It really is a rollercoaster.
Also, I bought a tens machine on e bay & gave it away a couple of weeks ago on freecycle along with a birthing ball! And I didn't pay attention at the NCT class about birth positions. Oh well, what will be & all that.0 -
Thank you for your help - I think I discovered the reason for the gloominess now - I have another urine infection. I used to have loads when I was little as I have 2 tubes where there should be 1, so I am well used to them. I got one on holiday in France, and tried speaking to a pharmacist about it, but couldn't get anything for it so I just drank lots and got a docs appt when I got home. Had a weeks course of antibiotics which finished on Friday and I had thought on Thursday that I still had signs of it (it was well developed by the time I had got an appt with blood in the sample etc), but then it seemed to clear ok. Well yesterday afternoon it started hurting lots again, so I have an appt in a bit to go see the docs again.
I think I might just be a bit run down from it allHopefully the docs will be able to help. DH is out tonight on a works do so that made me cry this morning as I had forgotten all about it. Poor fella, he hardly ever goes anywhere and I go and cry on him when he does have to go somewhere
Angelmommy - I think I would say to your mum that if she wanted to come with you it was on the strict instructions that she didn't contact anyone afterwards - that you were the one to pass on >your< news. I don't like anyone else sharing my special news. If someone puts a message on FB saying that I have had the baby before I have announced it I will go mad!! I know they are excited - but sometimes it just feels like they want to be 'the first' to put it on social media. I will have done the hard work - let me have the nice moment of announcing it :rotfl:
As for family visits etc - I think you have to play it by ear. I had DD at 6.15pm, but had to go in to surgery until after 11pm, so obv no time for visitors then. And then I was kept in for 2 nights, so I had my parents and inlaws to visit during those 2 days but no siblings friends etc. If it was an in and out labour, then I wouldn't have had visitors.
I went 10 days overdue last time and was plagued by people asking and texting all the time as though I had given birth and hidden the baby. It was soooooo frustrating. This time I haven't told anyone a specific due date - I just said end of November. I might get a little more pressure nearer the end on what date I am due - but I am planning on lying if necessary
We have DD to consider now for when we go in to hospital, but it will all just depend on when I start off in labour as to what we do with her. Ideally, I'll start around 9am on a school day, pop the baby out around 1pm ish and DH can collect her from school and come and visit the baby before anyone else knows about it at all :rotfl: I said that she would be the next person to know - but if we have to involve someone else in looking after her it makes it more awkward. I know my mum will be itching to visit so if she was looking after DD then it would make things trickier as I would like to have some bonding time as a family of 4 before we let in the rest of the world if you see what I mean...

Re: feeding. I wasn't bothered about b/f'ing my daughter when I was pregnant with her but obviously didn't have that option after delivery. With DS, again, I didn't want to during pregnancy but then when he was born I really felt the desire to try. It didn't work out, he wasn't interested at all (very very dozy after section) and the staff became concerned he wasn't getting any nutrition at all. As it happens he lost a lot of weight because he had lots of problems with his feeding, even on formula and is still behind as a result.
I want to try it for a few days/weeks with this one, but I'm certainly not going to beat myself up if it doesn't work so fully expect to use formula in the long run. If I am able to return to Uni, breastfeeding won't really be practical for us anyway.
And re: hospital visitors. Depends how long they keep me in, but I expect my parents and brother will visit the same day. OH's family live 100 miles away so will probably wait until I am home. They also have kids and under 12's aren't allowed onto post-natal unless they are the mum or dads's other kids. I would like DS to meet baby as soon as possible too. I will probably be 1st on the surgery list so will hopefully be done quite quickly and I'm hopeful I won't be on HDU or in intensive care again. I don't mind visitors in hospital or at home and I don't care about looking rough/feeding infront of people. I think post-surgery it's probably considered acceptable to look like poo
TTC - That is BRILLIANT news btw. Will keep my fingers crossed for a full term natural delivery for you!!!

Abis - I've been getting UTI's since I was about 3y/o, I find cranberry tablets (triple strength) do wonders. I've taken some during pregnancy, because it is only condensed cranberry, and I've been fine. Although I would probably only advise taking them after if you're worried about medications. if you get the triple strength pills and take one a day they should keep it at bay. You can drink cranberry juice during pregnancy though which can help if it's not too sugary. (you may already know all of this though).
Well I'm officially 24w today, OH and I had a mini dance this morning. Although I also then thought about how my cousins twins were born 2w away from now, but I very much doubt little lady will be along then. I'm off to an appointment with the consultant this morning, it'll be about the 7th time I've run through my medical history. It'll be interesting to see whether they know more than I do about my condition, but I doubt it as none of the others have. Going to triple check that I can go to Cossham birthing centre, I might end up arguing with them otherwise. I park in B&Q nearby. I find the 10 minute walk helps me relax a little bit before I go in. It would also cost me an arm and a leg if I had to pay £4.50 every time I went to hospital. I've had 13 scans so far this pregnancy and who knows how many other appointments.14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130 -
I don't want to breastfeed at all. I don't want to be the sole feeder and I want my husband to be able to feed the baby too, as does he. I don't know if I will try to breastfeed (purely out of thinking I should), but I will just take it as it happens after the birth. I think happy mom= happy baby so I won't be doing something I feel pressured or forced into doing just to be a martyr. The baby will be amazingly loved no matter how it is fed.
With regards to visitors I am really anti social and privatebut I think I would prefer them at the hospital and then we can have a day or so just us at home with no interruptions. I know people will be annoyed about this, but I feel as though I have to put in limits as all parents and sisters live within 10 mins away! I know they will be really excited and so will we be, but I also don't want to feel the pressure of visitors etc when we're trying to get to grips with it all.
Great news TTC!
I am properly exhausted today after the house move and getting things sorted every evening (currently living in 2 houses while we're waiting for the big furniture to be picked up this weekend). I would love a night of uninterrupted sleep but I don't think that is happening any time soon!
I keep having crazy, often horrible dreams which are waking me up at least every hour!0 -
Thanks Kerri - I've read a few studies on it and was advised by a specialist a while ago that it doesn't have much effectiveness in the cure of cystitis or indeed the prevention of it. She said that it could be counter-productive in some cases as well due to the sugars contained in the cranberries so I have never bothered with it since then as I don't particularly like it. I haven't seen or read much in to the capsules though - they weren't around last time I had a bad bout of it.
The docs confirmed I had an infection, but want to send the sample away before prescribing anything as the last antibiotics weren't effective enough. I know I normally have super strength anti-bs when I do get an infection that aren't allowed whilst pregnant. Amoxycilin has taken the edge off the last infection as there wasn't blood in the sample from this morning. I think its the same infection that just wasn't cleared fully with amoxycilin and now its coming back just as bad. So frustrated that they won't give any medication in the meantime and I just have to wait for the results back which'll be a couple of days (meaning it will probably go over the weekend and I won't get anything til Monday).
And if they test the strength of this infection as of today and then prescribe a strength of anti bs based on that - what happens when the infection worsens whilst waiting for the results to come back?
Pfffttt, feeling a bit fed up. I know what is to come I think that's the worst thing. I know how bad the pain gets. I already feel a bit run down and gloomy - I don't want another few days of thisMarried my lobster in July 2011

36 week growth scan this morning and to check placenta position. All perfect! Baby is about 6lb now. Also discharged from the diabetes midwife and back to the community midwife for the next few weeks. Will see the consultant in 3 weeks time and diabetes nurse and but all on track for a normal birth all being well.
2nd antenatal class tonight, quite enjoyed last week and OH did as well, can't remember what we're covering tonight though, I think it might be led by the midwife.0 -
Uti's are a pain, I've suffered with them really badly since I was young, touch wood It's not really bothered me during pregnancy...prob coz I'm drinking about 3 litres of water a day to try and keep everything healthy -midwife always comments I have the clearest pee when I have to give a sample lol! Amoxicillin does nothing for me when I have one, but don't what else they can give you while pregnant? Can you ask the doctors for them to hurry up the test results? I once had a uti that didn't give normal symptoms, just immense back and stomach pain, DH took me to a and e as I didn't know what was wrong and i was in so much pain i almost collapsed. they were able to get the sample checked (at 11pm at night) straight away, to know what kind of infection and what to prescribe me. It's really not fair to expect you to hang on over the weekend.
Re hospital car parking, I live in one if the few places where parking is free. This creates its own problems coz people use it as a park n ride into town, and the staff car park hasn't increased in size in about 30 years, so most staff are forced to park in the main car park - trying to get a space mon-Fri during the day is a nightmare. The maternity unit has its own car park - with two spaces! :rotfl: Most of the time we park in the tesco 10 minutes walk away, but you only get two hours in there.0
