I went to an antenatal class at the hospital yesterday and was told that due to NHS cost cutting I need to take everything I could conceivably need for the baby - down to the nappy for straight after the birth! It wasn't like this last time. They even provided a hat for the baby after the birth, although it was only on loan, we didn't keep it. Gonna take in the little ready made bottles of SMA, they are well expensive about £1 each but its' only for a few days until we come home.
Also they have stopped prescribing any medications for when you are discharged so even though I am having a c section I will need to provide my own painkillers for after.
I should consider myself lucky that I don't have to pay for the anaesthetic they will use in the operation!0 -

Blimey which nhs trust is this?
I think it's shocking you have to provide your own pain relief after a section. Does paracetamol really cover it?
I've got most things packed anyway as we have had so long to plan. I just need to add a few bits and we are done. I.e snacks and chargers.
I'm now 40+2 and ive got the builder, electrician and my dad all coming over to help finish my house. The fact it should have been done last week seems to have skipped their minds!
Congrats justonemore! If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -

Welcome optimisticmummy.
Well its been my first proper week of maternity this week... And it be honest I wish I was in work... I haven't stopped!!! Getting final bits, making curtains, building furniture!!! I am that tired that I am only waking up every 2 hours now!!!!
Had midwife appointment on Monday 3/5 engaged.... I think the midwife was taken a back about how calm and unstressed I was!!! Back on Monday for 40 week appointment where she said we would see about a sweep... My response was... 'Wonderful'.
Don't think bean is coming.... It's going to be overdue... Can see me being induced!!!!
The midwife at our classes said you don't really need a birth plan And I wasn't going to do one anyway!!!! Bean is coming out one way or another, I have no control over it, as I keep telling people... It's just going to slid on out!!!
The midwife didn't mention formula at the hospital so not bothering to take any!!!
My sister came round yesterday, she is 8 weeks behind me!!!! Nice to catch up... Showing her all the baby stuff..... She is getting the same travel system as me but in a different colour... Ummmmm!!!!
Well better get up... This is one long lie in for me... Oh even bought my coffee (decaf) to me in bed, think that's the second time since we moved!!!
Got to go to Argos and get step sons stuff for uni, all reserved all online last night!!!!
Well I think I am 2nd on the list... Yay!!!! On ipad so can't edit list.... Will try later when on pc... Unless nene gets there first!!!

It's crazy!! The amount of money people pay in taxes and they can't even provide a dfew paracetamol which cost pennies!!
I must admit I took everything with me when I went in with my first. I took cotton wool, but when DD1 did the most disgusting meconium poos I wasn't going to go looking for warm water. The Huggies wipes came out and I've been using them ever since. I still have several packets of cotton wool stashed somewhere.
I didn't take bottles of formula, I'm going to bf again- well fingers crossed I will. If things change the hospital can't not give you formula, but I suppose worse come to worse the hospital is less than 5 mins drive from a big Tesco Extra.
Regarding the size of the bag I took a massive overnight bag, but still forgot a few things like my phone charger, but I am really lucky the hospital is about 5 mins drive/20 mins walk from my house so DH just run home for it.
I'm going to need to find someone to have my DD when I do go into labour. I think MIL is a safe bet and it means she can't rock up at the hospital like she did last time!Got married 13/11/10

Gosh I hope it's not the same trust as mine! MW said they don't supply milk anymore but didn't mention anything about bringing own painkillers so hopefully not expected to do that!0 -
Thought I'd share this deal, sent to me by email today, in case anyone is looking for a video baby monitor. £69 delivered.

All I got from the second my eldest hit NICU was quizzing about if I'd bought some preemie sized nappies to bring in yet. Quite HOW I was meant to have anticipated the prem labour and got out of the hospital to anywhere to buy them was an interesting thought!
I've been using a laptop with skype as a cheap video monitor for the last couple of months during the heatwave as the heat made Erin sick overnight a couple of times - just cracked and bought a video monitor last night since I finally decided to sell the Phil and Teds buggy I was keeping in case I needed to ever get on a bus with it. Since I've got on a bus twice in the last 6 months - I figure I'll just get hubby to work from home if I need to get anywhere so I can use the car and I love my Nipper too much to go back to a lumbering P+T.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
It's really weird seeing how different NHS trusts vary on what is and isn't supplied, or allowed. We are fine to take in own wipes, but are not allowed chargers in as they haven't been PAT (safety) checked and they don't want us using NHS electricity! We're not allowed hair straighteners for the same reason (but there's a hair dryer on the ward we can borrow!). Honestly, if I'm in long enough to worry about charging my phone/ iPod/needing my straighteners, I think I'll go crazy anyway, I want in and out ASAP!
Had midwife appointment on Tuesday, everything fine except my iron count is a bit low, but not enough to need tablets. Not been eating as well as i maybe should, so back on the healthy eating now. Baby is only 2/5ths engaged, which means I'm prob in for a lot more pelvic pain before she's comes! Also booked in for another appointment the day before my due date (2 weeks!), so I don't think bean will be arriving anytime soon

We have to take everything too. I have got some pre-made bottles from Hipp as I am not sure about breast feeding yet. I wonder about chargers/ hairdryers etc but I hope to be in and out and back to my own plugs and electricity asap
(Fingers crossed!).
Just heard that we should get the keys to the new house today! SO exciting, but a very tiring weekend ahead I think!
