Hi Nessie - sorry to hear that. I have 'normal' diabetes although as it's treated with fast acting insulin it's quite different to gd (as I can inject to match my food intake which you can't do with gd) so quite a different approach. I seem to be injecting industrial quantities of insulin at the moment though - 4 or 5 times my normal dose, which is a bit freaky.
Sorry to say, but they may not let you go into labour naturally as they may want to induce you early - in which case you will most probably need pain relief as the contractions induced by syntocinon can be very painful, much more so than normal contractions.
If however they let you have the baby when it comes, then this won't be an issue. Have they said whether you'll be induced or not?
PS if it makes you feel any better I am testing around 12 times a day!
I won't know whether I will be induced until my appointment next Tuesday when I will speak to the main diabetes lady who makes the decisions!
If I can't have a natural labour then so be it - I will try not to be too disheartened
I did get told if I have regular high readings then I need to call beforehand & might be put on insulinbride2be2012 wrote: »We were told during our hospital tour that the boots changing bag is an ideal size lol, due to lack of space on the labour ward. So I'm using that for my 'in labour' bag, and taking stuff I'm going to need like nightie, toiletries etc plus one vest and sleep suit and two nappies, small pack of wipes for baby. Then in the car, a much bigger bag with more baby stuff, rest of the pack of nappies etc, that DH can fetch once we are back on the post natal ward.
I was told at my antenatal class that we weren't allowed to take baby wipes into hospital - just cotton wool - might be worth checking with your hospital!Nessie - Your due a day after me but not any more by sound of it! Hope your feeling ok. I had a test for diabetes which was negative but reading up on it made me feel a little worried so I imagine your are feeling shocked. I just hope you get the birth you'd aimed for.
Had a good cry earlier - needed it!
My GTT at 28 weeks was normal - shocked that it has happened this late on!
Thanks for the reassurances ladies, feeling a bit better about the whole thing now - just got to plan my meals & snacks more - not good when still need to go shopping!0 -

You too tomorrow! I'm feeling great but since I've returned to work after a 6 week holiday, I've got really bad lower back, right at the base/top of my bum. I can climb and come downstairs fine, bend down fine but it's really hurting me to walk. Any ideas anyone? Also, is it safe to use a warm hot water bottle to try to ease it?
How are you scarlet? X
I'm sorry to hear of your back ache, I hope it eases soon. I've been using one of those microwave heat packs on my lower back, I'm guessing its fine on your back especially as these heat packs don't get boiling hot. Can you sit/ rest much in your job? Warm baths also can help xx
I'm ok thanks, I am finding it hard to keep up with my son and playing with him on the floor hurts my back lots. Tiredness has really hit me too but as has insomnia! Just counting down the weeks until we meet our babiescan't wait! Scary to think I have just under 2 months in work but I am looking forward to a break x

I'm going for a tour on Monday evening so fingers crossed that it's as nice as the ones described here. If you get a room to yourself, I hope you can bring as much luggage as you like lol!
I'm sure it will be just as nice but keep us posted! I'd be interested to hearThe rooms were massive so I reckon they can fit whatever luggage you take
. One of my worries was taking food to hospital so when they said I could order a takeaway I was totally sold! I just hope I don't panic at being in a non medical environment .. it's what they have tried hard to get away from but of course anything I have had before that is medical has always been so clinical and formal that it does feel a little weird to think at one of the biggest moments of my life I'm going to be away from that 'comfort blanket' - even though it's not that comforting!
Welcome Optimistic Mummy - seems a while since we had a newbie...either that or I've missed someone..in which case sorry! : )0 -
Fluffy I think my baby has been engaging in and out too; have a sharp spiky feeling on and off when I walk or stand. Midwife said baby's head was very low down in my pelvis with bum to the right so feeling slightly anxious he/she could come early! Have first NCT class tomorrow and really hoping to hang in until after that at least so I get to meet some new people. So convinced bubs will come early I'm bound to go overdue at this rate!

Morning all
I'm deffo taking baby wipes to hospital, I remember being told they weren't allowed when I had my first baby, but the midwife soon appeared with a pack when baby had his first poopwhen I had 2nd baby the midwife actually asked me were my wipes and nappies were so she could change his bum while my spinal block wore off, either way this is one rule which should be ignored lol
Pain relief -
gas and air, I find ok unless I have to much then It makes me sick, although it does give you something to bite down and concentrate on
Diamorphine, makes me spaced out and sick, make sure you get an anti sickness jab if you Go for this I didn't get one until about 6 hours after delivery
Epidural, was amazing for first baby I had no trouble pushing with some instructions from midwife, made the whole experience calm and I had a clear head, 2nd baby only felt relief in one side at first, did work in time for delivery and was increased to a full spinal block to go to theatre.
To be honest I wish I could have just gone straight for the epidural lol But as I'm having a section don't need to worry about it this time:)
Got loads of back pain today and my headaches been up since 4am even though I'm tired can't seem to get back to sleepI've got my preop today. Can't believe in 4 days time ill be on my way to hospital to have my baby girl, time has just flown by.
Congrats justonemore and welcome optimisticmummyxxxx

Thanks chick. I ended up using a warm hot water bottle last night. I can pretty much sit all day if I need to. Do you go on maternity leave same day as me? I think you've already told me but I've forgotten. I will leave on 25th October, but maternity leave will start on 4 November.
Try to take some me time, have a bath, read a book etc.
We toured the midwife led unit attached to our hospital and I want to go there if I am discharged from the consultant next week. It's so lovely but has been closed for the last two weeks due to staff holiday
Congrats just one more and welcome optimistic! XDS born November 2013 :smileyhea0 -

I am in agony this morningwith piles!!! all thanks to the amount of iron i have to take. Im so tired due to lack of sleep from being unable to get comfortable.
School run shortly so will probably put my feet up whilst the 3 mini beasties are there and the OH is at work so no one will know if i have a do nothing day
36+5Sometimes i like to imagine that im living on the breadline as a single mum with 3 children to feed and clothe, bills to pay and very little time to myself........ then i wake up and realise im a princess with prince charming by my side and a lovely white castle........ oh wait
