I got my SMP breakdown today and don't really get it! It's all in gross pay but based on 4 and 5 weekly months (dependent) whereas I get paid once a month on the same date. Supposed to get full pay for the first 12 weeks but the actual figure given is short of my normal gross pay. If I ring and ask I'm worried I'll look thick as I think it may be to do with SMP having to be paid weekly. I'll see when wage slip comes I think!
Hoping everyone else is ok and feeling well. Long post that one! I'm a nightmare!
It could be one of two things, one like you said its 4 weekly pay not monthly pay or two their are certain weeks when your pregnat that they are supposed to work out your SMP from (this is totally out my head but I belive its around 17-21 weeks) and from these weeks they base this as your 'full amount' for SMP...so if you earnt abit less those particlar weeks that might be why.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Well back to work yesterday after 6 weeks. Sunday night my Mum kindly had DS overnight so I could get unterrupted sleep. However baby kept me awake most of night. I was on hands and knees in bed while he shifted round. Quite painful. Anyway saw midwife today and she confirmed baby has moved into a head down position (was lying across). Had thought so as can feel something pressing up into my diaphragm and also needing loo lots since as squashing my bladder.
Came home and told mum, while my DS was playing on his scooter. She said, "Oh good, so baby's ready to come out now"
DS (age 2 yrs 3 months) dropped his scooter, and came running. Grabs my dress (to pull it up) and says "Baby coming out now- me have a look". So funny :rotfl: (He has concluded it comes out belly button)
Not doing much at work tbh. Supply teacher already started. Students back tomorrow (I'm off Wednesdays tho) 6 days left for me, but would be much more active at home with DS lol.:p
34 weeks today
Bangton my Mum has told me all my life that I'd struggle to give birth cos I have small feet
Size 3.5, when she had kids (70s) it was normal practice for midwives to ask pregnant women what size feet they had. It is an indication of build but I think nowadays its been recognised as hit and miss. Two of my Dad's sisters also have small feet, one had 3 caesarians the other had 3 natural births which were quick, easy and she claims they didn't even hurt. Consultant assures me my pelvis is easy big enough for natural birth. Just happened my first baby was very large and back to back so caesarian was needed in the end.2016 MFW OPd £2000, 2015 MFW OPd 3000 then bought new bigger house with bigger mortgage.Beautiful boys born May 2011 and October 2013

They work it out with the qualifying week, the document given to me from work said they work it out as the 15th week before the due date, or the payday beforehand. Mine is worked out based on gross pay the payday on or before the 25th week plus the payday before that, divided by 2, times 12, divided by 52 to give the average weekly. I've come up good with this as my referral bonus came in giving me an extra amount for this monthDiary: Getting back on track for 2013 and beyondDEBT FREE 13-10-13 :dance::dance::dance::dance:

Thanks Kayalana - I wondered about the earnings bit as they calculated between April and June. In those 3 months I earned about £200 - £300 more so that had me even more thrown. So much so I ignored that bit!
It must be the 4 weekly pay as I know tax can differ for 4 weekly pay and monthly. Or maybe I could just ring them and stop wondering.0 -

Midwives is on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:T0 -
Oo I hadn't seen that midwives programme before, thanks have set the previous episodes to download from iplayer
18 days of work left...so glad, the lady I'm having to train most days I'm finding quite irritating and have a feeling that she thinks she knows more than me as she's just graduated...the amusing thing is she doesn't know yet that I did the exact same subject at the same uni, got a first (and might I add top of my course), not to mention having a few years experience of working doing the tests I'm teaching her...think I'll burst her bubble soon but I don't see what difference it makes having a degree or not with the work we do, most people in our labs don't have degrees, but it doesn't mean they are less capable - they have lots of years experience which is much more valuable. She'll hopefully realise that soon, and if not at the end of the month I won't careAvon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0 -
So now i am nervous
Had my 1 hour post meal blood test yesterday - phoned for results today & its come back high - now booked in to see a consultant/midwife/diabetes person on Thursday as they think i might have GD - apparently they will need to show me about checking blood sugars etc.
Can they really tell from that one test (do you reckon it would make a difference if it wasn't exactly an hour after the meal)? I find it very strange that i can develop GD this late on! & not giving me another GTT to check or even another more ridgid test to double check
Has anyone else got GD? Any advice you could give me?
Mum still being a PITA - she won't leave me alone!
Can't believe i only have another 3.5 days left at work!

Hi there - just lurking and thought I'd respond.
I didn't have GD but had pre-existing diabetes, but I would imagine at this stage they'll get you to monitor your blood sugars and reduce the amount of sweet things you eat (and carbs such as bread, pasta, potatoes).
Unless you have really high levels (which should have been picked up earlier, I'd have thought) they probably won't give you insulin etc as by the time you've got used to injecting the baby should have made an appearance!
In terms of testing your blood sugar, I can recommend the freestyle monitors as they require a much smaller amount of blood compared to the others. Also I have a real problem with pricking my finger, so it allows me to test blood from my arm etc.
I would go to the appointment with questions such as: exactly how high are the levels compared to "normal", how does this compare to any previous tests and why do they think it's gone up at this point, and of course what the implications of this are for the rest of the pregnancy, birth etc.
Hope it goes well.0 -

I have GD, after being tested at 28 weeks. Mine is diet controlled, my levels weren't and haven't been horrendously high but I have to test 3/4 times a day (before and after meals alternating). Baby is on the big side apparently but not excessively so. It's not actually that bad, it's forcing me to eat a bit more healthily than I otherwise would (and has rid me of my terrible fizzy drink habit).
Different areas seem to do the GTT differently, so I can't really say much about the tests themselves, but the regular blood testing (apart from being a bit of a pain) isn't too much of an imposition.0 -

Ahhh it all makes sense..mum had my brother and sister in the 70s. Myself and my younger brother were both 80s babies so I wondered at what era that would have been floating around. To be honest even with all that time in between a lot of things they did tell her are relevant now and are things the midwives ask or tell me. I've never really questioned being able to give birth naturally though - I just took it as read I can either do it or I can't! We shall see!
Kayalana - you've watched it now but I'd say it easier than OBEM ..what did you think? I watched one a few weeks ago that wasn't too nice about multiple births. They had to resuscitate the babies and it was horrid.
I feel like I've sprung a leak this evening...or wet myself! I'm so so sorry to ask this but could it just be discharge? Anyone had this. It's not waters gushing or anything just a trickle a couple of times ..no pain but a little pressure on my bits from baby. Maybe I've wet myself a bit!!!0
