It's the fact that one's in the "baby" range and one's in the "toddler" range (which sadly in some stores veers toward stuff I'd object to her wearing aged about 13 but don't get me started on that one), plus they live in a very isolated area, out of the range of some of the online retailers. She makes such a big thing about how hard it is to find clothes for them both the same too! Think we've thwarted it again anyway - the little one's had another ridiculous growth spurt (we have one of the health visitors accusing me of fibbing about her age she's that big) and now have her in 9-12 month clothes at 5 months... she's going to overtake her big sister and be giving HER hand me downs at this rate!
!!!!!! just buy the kids a book if you want to buy her something and don't agree with me on clothes! My 16 month old's eyes light up with books and she's currently trying to figure out letters - you can see her pointing to each one in turn - it's faintly terrifying to watch how switched on to printed words she is and how she's got the idea of going left to right and front to back in books... people think I've pushed her into it with being an ex primary teacher - I haven't at all!
I found I had to be quite firm with the hospital about formula. I'd gone into the second pregnancy with the view I'd give breastfeeding a go but I was NOT going down the route of breast pumps again (my eldest had a missed tongue tie and I came home pumping round the clock which was just hell on earth). She was born, ran into problems with blood sugars fairly rapidly and I could tell from the faces badly hidden by the chirpy tones that they were getting pretty concerned - and the words "ok we'll just get you started on a breast pump" were mentioned. I said no to that, just give her some formula and got fobbed off for a good five minutes before I said - I'm fully aware of the pros of breastfeeding and cons of formula feeding, I'm aware that I'm running the risk of nipple confusion and that she'll never latch, but she needs feeding and she needs a proper feed not just a few sips from a cup to tide her over - I'd like a bottle and teat to feed her please"... asked the midwife if I'd said enough that she'd be in the clear that she could tick her boxes she'd tried to keep me on the breastfeeding route - and the midwife looked utterly relieved! They're terrified in our local hospital of being seen to do ANYTHING that might be twisted into pushing formula at all - I found if you worded things very politely that "this is my informed choice and what I wish to do will you facilitate it for me" that you got a pretty smooth ride through it all to be honest.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
So now i am nervous
Had my 1 hour post meal blood test yesterday - phoned for results today & its come back high - now booked in to see a consultant/midwife/diabetes person on Thursday as they think i might have GD - apparently they will need to show me about checking blood sugars etc.
Can they really tell from that one test (do you reckon it would make a difference if it wasn't exactly an hour after the meal)? I find it very strange that i can develop GD this late on! & not giving me another GTT to check or even another more ridgid test to double check
Has anyone else got GD? Any advice you could give me?
Mum still being a PITA - she won't leave me alone!
Can't believe i only have another 3.5 days left at work!

Dizzi I feel the same re: feeding. My son couldn't latch on properly I got so sick of everybody trying to shove my boob in his mouth/ telling me if I sit like this/ lie like this it would work as it really didn't!! Expressing was hard work and wherever we went/ whatever time it was I had to keep expressing which was painful and a faff. I will try to BF but if it doesn't work I will FF as I would rather not go through all of that again x
I feel so exhausted today really wish DH was homeTrying to save for a deposit

Same here - expressing is very tiresome but I combine it with cartons of formula so when I can't be bothered...out comes the formula! Expressing is like double feeding! I had experiences similar to both of you with our tongue-tied baby - and that bl**dy cup they got me feeding her from....as a first time mum I didn't dare say much but looking back it makes me feel so angry! I even had a bruise on one boob thanks to one so-called BF expert trying to "manually express" for me in hospital!:(
BTW - just a heads up for any mums to be - Boots have a fabby sale on in their larger branches that stock clothes - their sale clothes are half price and also 3 for 2 on top - and at their points kiosk I got a £5 off £15 spend on miniclub that I also could use! :T I bought 3 fab rompers for £5 and they mostly had 0-3 and 3-6 month stuff in stock!0 -
You are right IhateDida it is like double feeding! I used to express an hour before my sons next feed but then it would mean I could be expressing upto an hour, then feeding him what is expressed, washing and sterilising bottles/ breast pump/ anything else that I'd used so it felt like double the work! I've also got to bear in mind my 3yr old as he still needs my care/ attention x I'm hoping to discuss feeding with DH soon, I don't mind expressing in the early days if I don't get on with BF but I will probably switch to formula full time a lot quicker!Trying to save for a deposit

I plan on breast feeding but probally not for very long. I managed 6 weeks with DS and it was a god sent not having to breast feed... that and I don't feel comfortable with my boobs out all time unless we are at home...didn't really feel right even round MIL's tbh. Just don't like it.
That said, I do think people who are planning on FF from birth should at least try the first feed because of the whole immunitities thing...even if its just expressing for those first few feeds...
But everyones choice is theirs ofc, I guess you all know this anyway lol.
(My OH was FF and he's still with us ...and more healthy then me might I add think I was BF for about a year lol)
+ Its probally aload of crap but I heard that one feed is eq to 30min on a treadmillPeople don't know what they want until you show them.0 -
Evening all.
Well back to work today after the 6 weeks hols and boy am I pleased I've only got tomorrow to do before starting maternity leave. All I did today was help prepare resources for different classrooms and the constant up/down, up/down from the chairs to get different things and then sitting at the table cutting out or filing etc made my tummy very uncomfortable.
I found myself having to shuffle forward on my chair so as to lean back a bit just to change position. I think I would of definitely found it difficult sitting at the different tables height wise to work with the students and of course sitting on the hideous plastic chairs (I'm a TA). I also think my patience would of been lacking when it came to dealing with behaviour issues (special needs school so do spend a lot of time out of the classroom monitoring pupils who are threatening to climb fences/disrupting other classrooms etc).
Feel bad for saying I've had 6 weeks off and then only worked today and got tomorrow to do before maternity leave starts, but at 37+1 I definitely made the right call to not work a full week this week and next as that was my original plan.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
heavily pregnant and feeling it! I'm spending my evening time trying to get my swollen ankles to reduce in size lol. On the plus side my newborn baby clothes are on the washing machine so I can start packing my hospital bag. They are very cute and I'm looking forward to meeting bubba. 35+4
nessie fingers crossed for you and your test results
hope all the OHs stop their antics when babies come. I keep thinking my OH thinks its gonna be easy cos my body is 'designed' for bfing and giving birth!0 -
Hip size and foot size have no correlation. My auntie was sent for an x ray 20 years ago when she was having twins to make sure her pelvis was big enough as she is only about 5ft and has a tiny frame. I think the exact words used were 'oh it's ok you'd fit a bus through there'. And sure enough when she came to have her last son after the twins out popped a 10lb 8oz baby no problem!
I asked the consultant this when expecting DS2 and she basically said she's seen 6ft women have problems delivering, and she's seen 5ft women have no problems delivering and vice versa. It's just one of those things you dont know until you go through it, irrespective of shoe size.
I've told her this but it's some !!!! and bull she was told when she was having me 29 years ago. It's odd, she worked in psychiatry and trained medically before that so normally is very helpful with all things medical but in this instance she's sold on me having problems with delivery. I don't have big hips and a small frame as well as small feet so perhaps all of it combined is making her fret. I've said if I was at risk the birthing centre wouldn't be an option even but hey ho I'll go tomorrow and I know she will ask if I'm going to hospital for baby the next time I see her!
Kerri - good thinking - it is at hospital so I might just tell her hospital!
Thank you for being lovely over my meltdown last night peeps (and Angelmummy). I didn't half get worked up with brother - to the point of tears. He came today and acted up but most of it was aimed at me this time. I'm lazy as I haven't cut the bush in my garden and I look like I belong on a council estate because I have things in garden from the house renovations (waiting to be collected as they are too big for my car and for me to lift). I don't know what's happened with us really. We used to be thick as thieves and drive mum mad keeping secrets! Now I run telling my mum about him like a 10 year old!
Enough of getting worked up anyway - my wardrobes are up (with no doors yet!) and bro helped do it out of goodness of his heart so he isn't all bad
Toothfairy - I know what you mean about the painful kicks. I feel so sore on my right side where he has gone at me over and over again. OH has given him a push this evening and he seems to have swapped sides for now so some temporary relief!
Continual Diamond - hope you enjoy your last day at work. I know the feeling of discomfort at work. It's much easier to cope when your at home and can rest when rest is needed
I got my SMP breakdown today and don't really get it! It's all in gross pay but based on 4 and 5 weekly months (dependent) whereas I get paid once a month on the same date. Supposed to get full pay for the first 12 weeks but the actual figure given is short of my normal gross pay. If I ring and ask I'm worried I'll look thick as I think it may be to do with SMP having to be paid weekly. I'll see when wage slip comes I think!
Hoping everyone else is ok and feeling well. Long post that one! I'm a nightmare!0
