We have a Gro Egg room thermometer I still use now but only due to the fact I'm constantly hot, rarely cold so I wouldn't have a clue whether the temperature in a room is right! I liked how I didn't need to obsess about the exact temp as it glows blue for too cold, red for too hot and yellow for just right.
Re: monitors I highly recommend the Angelcare movement monitor if you want a monitor, that has a thermometer too and I'm adamant it saved my sons life the few occasions he stopped breathing it detected it before it was too late.. Scary times! We were given a video monitor which I set up 'for fun' and still use it now! It's great being able to see what the monkey is upto in his room now he's in a single bed. I don't think it's something we desperately needed but its been great when he's been poorly (or even knowing when he's just being naughty!) I will use the angelcare for baby girl.
Trying to save for a deposit
    4000/ 10000 saved so far..
  • It's also worth remembering that it's possible to get donor breastmilk. I've donated before through Human Milk for Human Babies and there is no requirement that your baby is ill or premature or being breastfed by you or anything to be a recipient.
  • We're using a dummy on occasion to settle Lola, and it hasn't harmed her latch at all.

Benice..if you want a break (and I totally understand the fear of being 100% tied to baby), then do what we do. Ask OH to take baby into another room for the odd night, and just get him to bring him/her in for feeds when needed.

We did this last night, so I fed Lola at 11, then OH slept in the living room with her and I had the bedroom to myself (bliss!). OH then brought her in to me at 3am, then I took her back to him and didn't need to feed her again until 6ish.
Metranil dreams of becoming a neon,
You don't even take him seriously,
How am I going to get to heaven?,
When I'm just balanced so precariously..
  • ..also you'll find that the first 6 weeks fly by and you will be able to express a bottle so OH can do the last feed which makes all the difference.

  • thanks for giving me hope MV!
OH was saying he needs his sleep for work but he could give me a break for 2 weekend nights couldn't he? *seeing light at end of tunnel*
  • Yes definitely. I'm not going to lie. The first few weeks are tough and you will feel really tired, but things DO improve. You'll be tired, hormonal and weepy, but honestly when you look at your beautiful baby, it'll all be worth it :)
