  • Massive congrats lao cat :)

There seem to have been a flurry of babies recently. Hope courgette and yumyums aren't waiting too much longer!

Benicetomyself - sorry I hope I haven't worried you about the BF'ing. To be honest I had the same problems with DS, but actually perseverance is paying off and I think I am getting the hang of it again.

Lola seems to be doing lots of milky poo's (sorry for tmi!), so taking that as a good sign that she is getting some milk through!

I can't believe she is 4 days already! This week has flown by. Looking forward to getting the sleeping under control a bit so we can get some kip at nights. OH is going to be wonderful tonight and sleep with her in the front room and just bring her through to me for feeds so I can get some proper sleep. I feel a bit out of it at the moment!

She is totally adorable though. My mum and dad and brother met her today and are all smitten :D

no you haven't, it's an existing fear from tales of sore cracked nipples, breast leakage, not being able to make enough milk, pain from latching on, the existence of breast feeding brigades and support groups! It makes it all seem really hard!

btw the rainforest baby gym at Amazon has now dropped to £37 if anyone is interested.

My biggest difficulty the first time was that I had been led to believe that it was painless unless you were doing it wrong and that if the baby wasn't latching on properly that they would only get "foremilk" and not "hindmilk" and therefore not be nourished properly. So when I was really sore I thought that it was all going wrong and that she wasn't getting the right milk. I did manage to keep going and the soreness did go away but the next time round was much easier and sore for a much much shorter time period because my experience meant I was expecting some soreness and also I was able to notice when the baby wasn't latching on properly and take her off and relatch her on. In retrospect I realise my first probably didn't quite have the correct latch and that that it likely why I was sore for longer and why I used to get sore if she fed loads more than usual (which hasn't happened with current LO at all) but all the MWs who checked me had told me she had a "perfect" latch so I would recommend seeing proper lactation consultant so that upi get the right support when establishing breastfeeding from someone who has been thoroughly trained about breastfeeding.

My aim with bf this time is to get the lasinoh cream to hand almost immediately instead of waiting for cracks and pain. Once cracked it hurts every time you feed.

Yes it's expensive but prevention better than cure!
  • I've heard that too - I want to start with the nipple cream early but I'm not sure how early.
  • I can vouch for the Lanisoh cream, it really helps.

My nipples are really cracked at the moment but feeling much better than yesterday. I completely agree with what BadlyWrittenPoem has said above. I think it does hurt to begin with even if you are doing it right, yet MW's often lead you to believe that it's because you are getting it wrong that it is hurting. I have wanted to give up as thought it wasn't worth the pain if baby wasn't getting a good feed, but glad I have kept going as it is starting to get easier now.

Breastfeeding is only hard at the beginning, it just takes a bit of time. One thing that I did that really helped was to get help don't suffer on your own. I went to a breastfeeding group, even once bf was established and we were flying along. It helped with my confidence to feed in public and I made some really good friends. Just take it one feed at a time, it did get to the point where I was saying just one more day and then I'll quit.

I suffered with the cracked sore nipples, we had green explosive poo because of too much foremilk. I managed almost 14 mths!!!

And don't listen to the crap that bf babies will sleep better on formula it isn't always the case and the lack of sleep isn't forever. DD1 started sleeping through from about 2-3 mths old!!

Plus think of all the money you save a tub of formula is about £10!
    Got married 13/11/10 :)
    DD1 born 25/03/12 :D
    DD2 born 28/11/13 :D

I was quite lucky with DD2 (couldn't bf DD1) as I didn't get sore nipples and feeding was quite easy...on the one boob that I hadn't sliced in the shower with the hospital tag!! Now that boob hurt like a mo fo everytime she fed on it. I don't recommend doing that by the way :rotfl: I had to feed her in the rugby ball hold which was weird

Sorry I totally totally agree that breast feeding is better for baby etc etc but it isn't crap at all.

Babies drink as much breast milk as they need, with forumla they drink so many oz's a feed and their tummy expands with it meaning they sleep longer - so yes its not good for them but they def do sleep better with formula then breast milk.
