Continual- it's not a stupid question at all. Children are allocated their school year by their date of birth, so babies born on 1st sept-31st August the following year are all in the same school year. The ones born in Sept can therefore be almost a full year older than those born in August and everyone is just discussing what effect this has. Some people say that the summer babies may not do as well at school and can be noticeably younger than their peers.
  • Don't worry continual diamond, I'm in Scotland where its different again, so get confused with the Aug/Sept thing too!

Unless things have changed, then up here babies born 1st March - 28th Feb the following year are all in one class...however, if your baby is born Jan or Feb, then you can keep them back until the following year - making them the eldest rather than the youngest.

Can mean there's over a year between children in the same class though - two of my friends had children in the same class, one turned 6 5th of Jan, the other didn't turn five until 10th of Jan.

None of this matters to me, as I'm an October baby, DH July baby and bump is due 20th Sept! As an October baby, I was probably one of the youngest in my year but never felt it hindered me in anyway, was always in the top or second top classes for almost everything.

I'm a December Scotland baby so I was one of the youngest in my class but there was a girl who was born the same day/year as me who was in the year below, so I think there's some room for discussion on it.
As it is, I was a very clever 4 year old :D

Tiny is an August baby so she'll either be 5 when she starts or turning 5 in her first week or so

Well I'm in hospital and not getting discharged until the baby is here. No sign of labour starting last night so they are inducing me today. Came in at 8 and have been hooked up to a monitor. They put a pessary (sp) in at 12. Hoping my labour kicks off soon. Want baby to arrive tomorrow at the latest as its Dh's 40th on Friday and I want to be home for then.

I also had the childcare costs vs youngest at school argument with myself. At the end of the day what will be, will be.

We don't know what we're having and still haven't decided on names. Oops!!

Ahh how am I 27th? Swear I was 30th yesterday or day before lol.

Anyone else had to have the GTT done?

With my 1st I had this new woman who didn't know what she was doing and basicly got sent down to another department to have my blood taken (one where they do it all time just a queue of people to have blood taken)

2nd time today...same woman...seemed alot more confident this time guess it is a year or so later, was quite nice and chatty so all good.

Just had a phone call to say my test results wern't labelled so I am going to have to have it redone.

    Another 2hours in hospital...*sigh*
People don't know what they want until you show them.

Anyone know whether I can drink lucozade as a one-off? I've had a cold since last Monday which is now a chest infection and I really need to fight this thing off. Have bought a 1lt bottle so the glucose can help make me better.

Good luck nutshell! Also excited to hear oscars news.

My baby will definitely be an August baby but tbh it doesn't bother me at all because I didn't struggle at school so she should be ok.

I'm still pregnant btw. Baking cakes to pass the time. I've never known time to drag so much in my whole entire life more than the last few days have. Sweep booked for tomorrow but obv hope I don't need it

    Hope everyone else is well

I'd go for it, it's not like you're wanting to drink a bottle of gin :D

Back home, trying to sort the nursery and I've realised I've bought the wrong size cot sheets, gutted about this! Can't even nip out and buy some today so I'm stuck with an unmade cot which is annoying 'cause I wanted to get the room all pretty today, grr. About to attempt a 40 pcs wall sticker though which should be fun!
