I've been asked if baby was planned too, I think it's a strange and quite invasive question from people who don't know you well! 31+1

I agree. You wouldn't just go and ask someone if they are having protected sex or not, which is basically what your asking when you ask a pregnant lady if baby was planned :rotfl:

I have been asked a couple of times and I hate saying no because it makes it sound like its a bit of an inconvenience.

Thanks for all the other advice on wedding outfits, will get looking :)

  • I've had a few people ask me if baby was planned, which I find very very odd because for the majority of last year people were asking me when was I going to have children. They pretty much started asking after we got married in August 2011.

I found a bargain today re clothes. I popped into £ stretcher intending to just get some biscuits to enjoy with a cup of tea when I got home, but whilst having a nosey around the shop saw some skirts marked down from £15 to £2.99 (not sure if they ever were £15 though).

For £2.99 decided it was worth getting one, non maternity of course. Got it home, tried it on and perfect, goes right over bump lovely and as its elasticated got plenty of room left for the next 7 weeks & few days.

Was also great to treat myself to some new earrings and handbag today. Only had to put £5 towards it as got a £25 voucher for next from work when I finished a few weeks ago and was told it was to use on something for me as another collection would be done for the baby after I've had her. Felt a bit guilty to be honest as do love the baby items at next.

Besides that has anyone had a letter from the health visiting service?

I'm hoping it's normal as I got one today informing me that my midwife has let them know I am due soon and the purpose of the visit is to introduce themselves and share the details of the team.

    What do they do exactly?

I second asos I got a black maternity dress which was about £20 in 2011 and I wore it again last night for a wedding and will be wearing it again at my friend's wedding in Sept. It looks quite expensive and is comfy. I'd order double sizes though just in case asos is a bit funny with sizing. I bought some 12s and 14s and could wear some 12s and some 14s whereas some 12s were the size of tents. It really baffled me!

butler_helen bio oil is on Groupon at the moment, not sure if it is a good price £12 down from £19.99 with free delivery

We have health visitor coming Tuesday. Midwife told me that its the norm for them to make contact with you before baby is born now. Its only a recent thing- frankly I am surprised as they never had sufficient staff to keep up with the postnatal appts they already had. Currently waiting on 2 yr review for DS.

What they do- don't know tbh- postnatal ones were very similar to midwife visits. Checking that you're not depressed or suffering domestic violence and discussing feeding of baby. My prediction is a bit of breastfeeding propaganda and probably a few questions from a questionnaire designed to check my mental stability lol. I'll let you know what actually happens Tuesday.

Had a nice lunch out and walk along the beach with a friend today. Was desperate for girl time. So our husbands joined forces to keep our little boys entertained for the afternoon. Really glad of the break. Might even pass the mentally stable questionnaire now lol ;)

Evening all - I've not been asked in a while if baby was planned but I did get it a bit at the start, rather rude I thought.

OH is away home tonight to get the house sorted a bit for me coming home tomorrow (so excited!), but I'm still feeling rotten - was sick tonight. I'm 36 weeks - I've done my time being sick!!

Oh god, I better start clearing some of the [STRIKE]junk[/STRIKE] stuff out the spare room and get it looking half like a babys room :rotfl:

Didn't have that with DS, but if its all changed since he was born 22 months ago then its more than likely that this is the norm now.

Ooh, I've not heard of a pre-birth HV visit. Like Fluffysox - I'm still waiting for DDs 2 year check. They did send me a letter for an appointment for May but I had to cancel and they never rescheduled. And then speaking to a friend the other day whose little boy is a couple of weeks younger than my DD, she said that when she tried to book it, that they were too short staffed so no 2yr checks at the moment. Oh well. I will try and remember to call next week to see what's occurring.

Good news on the nursery MV. Sounds like its coming together nicely :)

Naff all on telly so I'm resorting to buying handbags online. Someone stop me!

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been on to update you all but we've had a bit of a mad week. Congratulations to the ladies who have had their wee babies!

I was admitted for induction on Thursday 25th and given pessaries but nothing happened, so on Friday my waters were broken and I was started on the drip and the midwife got the antibiotics ready for the Group B Strep when the sister came in and said that as the GBS wasn't diagnosed during the pregnancy it was no longer policy to treat with antibiotics (this will be relevant later!) Anyway, after a very long day, I gave birth to James Daniel at 20.56, he weighed in at 8lb 7 1/2oz.

We were kept in until Sunday and had a lovely night at home! On Monday the community midwife came out and was a bit concerned about him being jaundiced so she scanned his skin and his levels were high so we were sent to the local childrens hospital, his bloods showed he needed UV treatment for the jaundice but he was also showing signs of an infection so I mentioned the lack of antibiotics in labour so they had to treat him as if he had GBS infection. At 3 days old he was getting bloods, a lumbar puncture and he was cannulated for IV antibiotics.

Thankfully he responded well to the UV treatment and the tests all came back negative so we were discharged on Wednesday night.

It's been a hellish week but I have to say James is a fantastic baby, he's eating and sleeping really well. He is just a wee delight!
