    Thank You,

I will try the trouble is it's my own fault & I don't know what else to say except what happened, I thought I was making the recovery discs & I was instead doing a recovery. Then switched it off

They will say sorry it's your own fault

The laptop should be capable of being recovered from the recovery partition. That's why it is there and why you have no media supplied with it in order to do a recovery.

I don't think anything you've done should have affected the recovery partition so I don't think anyone can say definitively it's your fault.

Where did you buy it from by the way?

Thank You So the recovery partition is when you press F4? Just so I know what I can say in the morning.

    I brought it from Ebuyer.com

I have been trying to find my receipt but can't find one, do they give you one? I am not sure I have seen one to be honest.

    Thanks xxx

i think recovery is far to difficult, ditch this process right now and load a linux distro, such as mint, or ubuntu - check out distrowatch.com for the latest flavour of the moment, download the iso, burn to a dvd and boot your lap top from that.

    cheers

Yes holding F4 is to start the recovery procedure and uses the recovery partition on the hard drive but as an average user that is not your concern.

You should have got some sort of users guide with the laptop and can only really be expected to have as much knowledge as is contained within that. It probably contains a section on how to recover the laptop when things go wrong so the information about pressing F4 etc. is probably there.

You've probably got an email somewhere as a record of your order although I would think there was something with the laptop too.

Speak to Ebuyer first perhaps and say you got stuck and the recovery procedure isn't working. Also check out their returns policy on their website.
They have an 0871 number so find an alternative at https://www.saynoto0870.com.

I may be wrong but isn't there some boot protection built in these days which prevents booting from such a DVD unless you learn how to bypass it?

In any case I think a user with a laptop which is just a few days old should really receive help from the seller and/or the manufacturer to get back to a functioning Windows 8 machine. :)

I thought the whole idea was that recovery was supposed to be easy!

    LOL

If the recovery on windows 8 is supposed to be easy they are welcome to come & see the state mines in.

I've just read through Ebuyers returns policy & it looks hopeful, I have found a alternative number to call & will call them first. It does have a system where you can start the return yourself but I don't have a printer I can use with this tiny laptop & guess it will involve printing a label so will call them tomorrow, see what they say.

    Fingers crossed!

If I can have a refund I will as I have no faith what so ever now with this one even if they offered me a new one in exchange.

Ho Hum no idea what I'm going to do next xxx

I don't want to sound harsh, but it's not the laptop's fault you powered down during a recovery - pretty much any lappy can get borked under such circumstances (vista was particularly prone to this, had to rebuild no end in similar circumstances). Maybe finding out a bit more about computers may benefit you generally

Phone samsung (see the instructions that came with the laptop for the phone number, or use google). They have an excellent tech support and will talk you through what you need to do, as you do it. My last three laptops/netbooks have been Samsung and this is one of the main reasons - the tech support is excellent.
