I've Killed My New Laptop!
Comments

To comment on the extra bit you wrote,
I am also unsure what I want people to say. I have gone through about 90% of the available laptops because I want a good reliable laptop & if that means going through 100% of the available laptops then so be it, at least no one can say I did not do my research!.
After going through 90% of the available laptops I have drawn the conclusion they are a complete nightmare all of them. Pot luck you get a working one, pot luck it likes the programs you want to run on it & pot luck the recovery partition works
I really really just want to throw the modem out the door call Virgin & cancel my subscription & go hungry if none of my family can get to a shop.
I'm so sick of it it's untrue

It's not the laptops that are are nightmare...
You are going on about i3 and i5 as if your usage actually calls for such a thing.
It's like saying that you need a four wheel drive to get around London, instead of a smaller efficient run around. You are also expected the four wheel drive to last longer than a little run around.
It may or it may not. So my suggestion, which hasn't changed...is to spend as little as possible on a machine that actually does what you need it to do.
If in three years you decide to upgrade, spending the same on your new machine will probably get you a better machine than the expensive one you buy now. But then you'll have a new machine, not one with a broken hard drive and lid.
You are just blinding yourself with figures and reviews, instead of sticking to what you actually NEED.
You need a pickup and return(or on-site) extended warranty, perhaps with data recovery and accidental damage(dependent on your requirements), perhaps a bigger screen if your eyesight is as bad as you suggest, backlit keyboard, an operating system that you can understand....
But all I can see you going on about is i3 and i5.... reviews...
After all that you had to send your machine back within a few days. What good the reviews then?
So no, laptops are not a nightmare.
That why I wrote to you earlier..."do whatever you like". In the end it will just be pot luck. So get a warranty that covers you.0 -
You're reading an insult where there is none.
But since you brought the subject up, cooking oil and dropping on floors is not advised.
WHY ARE YOU BEING NASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you google Packard Bell lids you will find that cracking/seperating lids is a fault of them.
I never picked it up with one hand, I never dropped it or banged it into anything, I opened & closed the lid with both hands one day the lid would not shut & it cracked, keeping opening & shutting the lid once craked made it split away from the screen.
I understand you have a huge ego the size of London, I have no idea why mind you because yes your knowledge of computers is brilliant but does this mean you should act towards nasty towards other people? does this give you the right to try & show me up on a public forum?
NO
All you have suceeded in doing is making your self look like a nasty pratThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -
An egotistical and nasty prat that's spent a good few hours/days trying to help you, (and I'm not alone), for nothing, and everything has been largely ignored.
I'm well aware about issues with hinges, and the fact that hinges fail, and disks fail of their own accord, which should be perfectly evident if you read my contributions to your threads without your "touchy" head on.
Well that's you on ignore, good lucknot really, looked after well (if you think those three words were insulting you, and directed at your treatment of the laptop, you couldn't be more wrong, it was a general statement of fact, nothing more.), most laptops carry on working for a long time, and run all the programs needed. A hard disk failure after 4 years is unlucky, but not a major headache or cost to replace, £40 over 4 years is cheaper than one hour of a repair shops time and cheaper than an extended warranty.
My advice, is go to a shop, and pick one, and backup properly, rather than obsessing about the brand. Reliability is a roll of the dice.!!

Really not sure how I did not look after my broken laptop well?
In fact I find that extreemly insulting!
Was it my fault the hard disck drive broke?. I do not think so.
It's broken after 3-4 years of running like a dream, never crashed, no blue screens, no java script not turned on warnings & very fast.
Alas it's not just the HDD that broke the lid has broken too.
What some people find easy to do others do not. I have said this many, many times I really don't know how to say it any better
xxx
Windows 8 is a new OS. That why there are constant updates to an OS.
You wrote that the Samsung ran like a dream earlier. Kerplunk!
You started off with wanting a Windows 7 machine. Stable OS, better the devil you know. Now you are moving into unknown territory and are blaming everyone but yourself.
I can tell you that there are some sharp minds on this forum. Some very good at what they do, helping people here and behind the scenes.
Then we have you. Constantly changing your mind and insisting that everything that you read takes precedence over what we tell you.
So, it just best that you do whatever you want to do, rather than start multiple threads on the Tech forum.
I can comfortably tell you, without even checking, that you have started more threads on here than anyone else in the past two weeks.
In the end, the only people who will bother with your threads will be non-techies like yourself.
Then you'll be just as well asking your questions on the Competitions board.
You shouted me down about the keyboard and like all your other criteria, that too has fallen by the wayside.
You are isolating yourself from precisely the people who can help you out in a crisis.
I deliberately stayed out of your recovery debacle because I didn't want to deal with it. But I have all of the Samsung Recovery Admin Tools to hand. But in no way did I have the inclination to go through the issues with you.
Just want to explain to you how it looks from the other side.0 -

Thank You,
That all made perfect sense even to a numpty like me
Right then
i3 core is probably more than I need, I do make the computer work hard when comping, this is because I have 3-4 windows open at the same time, opening/closing them fast & it always makes the computer work harder, revs up a gear & the fan comes on, so that's why I dare not go lower than a i3 core.
I do like the Acer silver one with backlit keys, it is a i3 core. The warranty is for 3 years click & collect, I am trying to work out if it also covers helping with softwear problems which is what I have trouble with, it says you also get a free telephone number for the life of the warranty, what I am trying to find out is if that is to get help with softwear problems. I have found a email address on their website yes this computer has loaded it at the moment don't know why as it usually dose not.
A seperate graphics card puts the computer price up, I am not sure that I need this, there are cheaper i3 core silver acer laptops than the one I linked to. I will search for the link to them & add it here. Does the seprate graphics card help the computer run smoother?

I have said thank you on many, many times in fact after each & ever time you have tried to help me. As I said your computer knowledge is brilliant you ego is not & I could bite my tounge no longer. There is no need what so ever to treat people that way.
I am sorry that you do not like the fact I had the nerve to answer you back, you may not be used to this but take it on board because it will serve you well in future.
Put me on ignore, reply, don't reply that's up to you, but I will not be spoken to like that anymore from youThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

Have you considered a PC with a wireless keyboard? I use a 24" Full HD screen.
Maybe a laptop is not for you.0 -

Luckyone, you're the one throwing out insults, being rude, and patronising. I couldn't care less whether you answer anyone including me back, you are miscontruing my comments totally, and throwing a wobbler for nothing. Something you should take on board perhaps.
Looked after well, a car last longer, do you find that statement insulting?!!

That is a very good point, one I have thought of myself as I have read people being advised they are much more reliable than a laptop.
Trouble is I don't have a table or desk
I have thought about buying a cheap desk though I am not sure if my muscles will sand me sitting up a table for hours as one of my illnesses causes me to have weak, painful muscles
The other ace laptop without the seprate graphics card is this one
http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/Acer_Aspire_V5-571_1266032.html
Reviews say the more expensive one of the two is better, but not sure if for me I would get the benefit from it

the only reason why you showed the broken laptop & said I did not look after it well was to show me up, there is no getting out of it, I am sorry but that is what you did
I don't have a car so it's of no importance to me, but if I sent you a picture of my broken car & then you flagged the picture up saying that I did not look after it then yes I would have the same problem with you then as I do nowThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0
