I've Killed My New Laptop!

1) Norton would have been fine for a few days
2) You mentioned youalready had the Clickfree disk ?
3) I suggested you go somewhere other than Pcworld. That way you will get a more personal service (e.g haggling to get recovery disks included, warranty etc) and you can also take a real look at what suits your needs (rather than looking on internet).
I'm curious what are you using on now ? ( I can't remember if your old laptop completely broke).
I went to Tesco & had a look through their laptops, I liked the Acer Aspire V5 14 inch screen but wanted a bigger screen which is the silver Acer I linked above with the i3 core.
I don't know of anywhere else in the nearest town to me that sell laptops I will have a google see what comes up.
Now I am on the first version of Acer Aspire One running Linux which is not allowing me to go on all websites some it just can't cope with & I can't comp on here at all not enough power, screen & keyboard too small
My laptop that broke was a Backard Bell TX 86. It's hard drive broke, & it's screen has cracked & broken away from the bezel. I asked a near by repaier & they said it will cost £50 per hour plus new lid & hard disk drive

it's still a disk, and unless you have an imaging version, the software is not as useful as macrium when a hard disk fails.
The security software you added to the machine could be the cause of blue screens, and java issues could probably have been resolved easily.
I did make a thread about the Java script someone helped me to make sure it was switched on & no one else replied so that was all I could do about itThis Post Has Been Sponsored ByChocolate0 -

Glossy Screen is a bad point (very) unless you're only going to be using it the dark (in which case you'll certainly need the backlit keyboard).
They reflect – horribly and distractingly.
And, by the very nature of their portability, you use laptops in places where you often have no control over the lighting, or even where you can choose to sit.
Do consider that carefully, or you'll regret it...

not sure what you are expecting people to add regarding choice of machine, in the space of a few days, you've gone through 90% of the market, including a chromebook.
To comment on the extra bit you wrote,
I am also unsure what I want people to say. I have gone through about 90% of the available laptops because I want a good reliable laptop & if that means going through 100% of the available laptops then so be it, at least no one can say I did not do my research!.
After going through 90% of the available laptops I have drawn the conclusion they are a complete nightmare all of them. Pot luck you get a working one, pot luck it likes the programs you want to run on it & pot luck the recovery partition works
I really really just want to throw the modem out the door call Virgin & cancel my subscription & go hungry if none of my family can get to a shop.
I'm so sick of it it's untrue

Thank You,
My last laptop that died had a glossy screen & this little acer has one too, I have found no problem for me, I don't go outside with it & I only have it set at a angle for me to see clearly. I like them because the screen is so much richer in color than the matt ones.
Dose the light under teh keys show up in day light?

In that case, fine! :money:
I was just warning you in case you didn't.
I don't know about Wintops but the backlit keyboards on my Macbooks monitor the level of light automatically and adjust their brightness accordingly. It works marvellously well. And, if there is a need to conserve battery power, you can switch the feature off completely!
Good luck with your quest.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

not really, looked after well, most laptops carry on working for a long time, and run all the programs needed. A hard disk failure after 4 years is unlucky, but not a major headache or cost to replace, £40 over 4 years is cheaper than one hour of a repair shops time and cheaper than an extended warranty.
My advice, is go to a shop, and pick one, and backup properly, rather than obsessing about the brand. Reliability is a roll of the dice.!!

Really not sure how I did not look after my broken laptop well?
In fact I find that extreemly insulting!
Was it my fault the hard disck drive broke?. I do not think so.
It's broken after 3-4 years of running like a dream, never crashed, no blue screens, no java script not turned on warnings & very fast.
Alas it's not just the HDD that broke the lid has broken too.
What some people find easy to do others do not. I have said this many, many times I really don't know how to say it any better

You're reading an insult where there is none.
But since you brought the subject up, cooking oil and dropping on floors is not advised, and neither is turning off a machine in the middle of a factory restoreOH MY GOD!!!!
So here is the picture of my cracked laptop lid. I warn you it's bad!
It started off as a very tiny crack but then became this. I swear I did not miss treat it at all, always opened the lid with two hands & never picked it up by the lid
She cracked a little so the lid would not move, I put cooking oil on the hinge & she worked fine, but started to get stiff again & the cooking oil did not do the trick, then I put the computer down on the floor quickly as the door bell went & found it completely flat out & when I gently lifted the lid I found this!
