However, on that particular forum there are a couple of people who do seem to go out of their way to cause trouble.

Martin's given clear instruction on that at the top of the forum, but unfortunately some people pay no attention. It's not that people are being petty about the comments, but not having the 'ignore' facility means they don't/can't always pretend they haven't seen a post (for a start, sometimes people quote it in a later reply) & this has already cost the forum some members who were abused at a particularly difficult time in their lives.
..still don't quite get why people can't ignore posters who upset them....ie come across the name = do not read/ignore....how hard is that?0 -
If you can't understand, fair enough - we're not all the same. But they can't & they shouldn't have to, so the sooner this issue is resolved the better. I & other members will be interested in knowing when it has been sorted out, which is why I started the thread in the first place.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Exactly, I really struggle to understand why you have to read posts from someone whom you know upsets you. Help me out here, please explain why people feel compelled to read posts they know will upset them? I trawl through other forums that seem to manage very well without this facility.0 -

If its a software issue, wouldnt it be simply the case of having the software technicians call around and repair or update the problem, there has to be a cure and it has to be a simple one, a case of allowing the software the abilty to read both UPPER and lowercaps as the same in lower caps, isnt beyond the realms of science.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Okay so people have explained the reason for the ignore facility, but what's this 'buddy' thing about? How does that work (I mean assuming it does or will in due course work)? Do people agree among themselves to be buddies, or can you just make someone your buddy without them knowing?
What happens with buddies that is different from non-buddies?I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

You can put anyone on your buddy list. They won't know about it. It's really just a way of bookmarking people.
You can view your buddy list from Quick Links >> Open Buddy list and that way see quickly if any of your favourite people are online. You can also Private Message several at once by ticking beside their name and selecting the option at the bottom.
Finally, you can choose in your options to only receive Private Messages from people on your buddy list and moderators.0 -
Thanks sra, that is really helpful. I've always wondered.
