Maybe the "techies" assume that if we click on a username, its to add a user, rather than ignoring a user. Which is strange, because I already know who my buddies are, so am less likely to need an "add me as buddy" when I click a username. Do I really need a buddy list?

Moreso I would only really click on a username, for the sole purpose of ignoring a Troll. If I wish to add someone as a buddy, I would be more inclined to do that via my PM list.

When are we going to introduce a Name n Shame forum, where the names of Trolls, Spammers, and abusers are listed. If that cant be done how about a list of those deleted or banned made available that would not only act as a deterrant to other likewise individuals, but could help potential newcomers to understand that these people exist.

Initial reaction - good idea. But then thought - very often in life the bullies try to turn things on their head by saying that the people they themselves are bullying are the ones at fault. You know that old phrase "Attack is the best form of defence". I've not forgotten the traffic accident when I was in someone elses car as a passenger - the car I was in was 100% not at fault (ie sitting at a crossing waiting to move) and the person causing the accident had done so by just going into the back of us. The "guilty" party was the one who started yelling and blaming.

Moral of the story - its often the "guilty" party who yells. So we'd best not do that.

I agree. It’s sometimes the case that one person starts the name-calling or whatever is the problem, & is pulled up by other members. Sometimes the initial problem post is reported, but sometimes other members are so vociferous in their response that they are reported instead or as well. When the thread is looked at by the abuse team, some posts get removed, with the unfortunate result that the thread becomes misrepresentative of what actually happened, because the context of the remaining posts is lost.

“Naming & shaming” only has a chance of working if you can be 100% sure exactly who are the victim & the culprit. Even then, you run the risk of either making such a list a “badge of honour” or leaving yourself open to accusations of victimisation, or even of bullying the bully.
