I got an email from them saying they were stopping at the end of September and to save all projects that are in my account as there would be no access after that. There is an announcement on their blog site too.

Had a very quick look on Making Spot and these Nordic Santas have fallen into my basket (whoops) and I am still pondering over the Madonna and Child. Will I ever stitch it or will it just feed my stash?? decisions decisions ............... :D

  • Evening! I always read this thread but am rubbish at posting :o

Love all the updates of WiP and pics of finished pieces. Can't get my photos to show on here at the moment but will try again at the weekend.

Anyway, I have a question for you all ..........

A colleague of mine has just started cross stitching and has a few simple patterns, bits of thread and small pieces of aida that I gave her so she could try it. She loves it!

It's her 50th birthday at the end of the month so a few of us have done a collection and want to buy her some cross stitch bits of her own.

So ......... if you had £50 to spend to set someone up for stitching, what would you buy?

All help appreciated as I'm struggling to make decisions!!

    Thanks :D

Last time I posted here was 4 weeks ago just as I was off to Dorset on holiday and to enter sl items in a County show. Well the good news was I got 3 highly commendeds and a second. The bad news is I was involved in a car accident and my car was a write off. The even better news is that neither of us were hurt and it actually put my back back in. Some may remember I was hobbling round on a stick, well no problems since the accident. Every cloud and everything!!

Congratulations and commiserations and congratulations (what a weird positive spin that is) Hope you're okay x

Louise - WOW - beautiful cards. I have got to ask you - did you do mackintosh letters from a chart or did you design them yourself? My cousin and best friend share your godmother's name and they both have the same big milestone birthday coming up and they would be perfect for them. Mind you the first one is at the weekend so I might be pushing it time wise and the other isn't til the beginning of Oct (that's a long way off yet isn't it :p). Lovely to see you back in the Cafe btw

The chart was in the December 2009 issue of Crosstitcher, it does stitch up really fast.
I hadn't realised that The Making Spot was going too. :(

    Awww no, me neither :(

i'm prob best not looking at it now tbh

I agree with all of Louise's suggestions and would add
    Embroidery scissors
Trial subscription to one of the XS magazines such as WO CS to keep her inspired
A web link to the Cafe:D

Hi all - not been on the forum in a while, never seem to get any further than facebook and online banking when I get online!

Some lovely stitching going on :T
Coffeeandstitches that HAED design is beautiful. I have completed 2 and have a third which is *almost* finished. The amount of time they take depends on how big it is and how long you have to stitch every day. My first one was 3ftx2ft and took me 9 months, stitching a couple of hours every day.
They are fairly simple to stitch though, just concentrate on one page at a time and it comes together.

I haven't been doing any large pieces lately, but I have done LOADS of card designs, and got loads made up as well. :D

Really disappointed that ATS is closing down :( I never had any problems with them. Now and then a thread was out of stock but it was always sent on soon enough. I will resort to Cross Stitch Heaven (39p each for DMC) but unfortunately delivery can take a fortnight.

Hi Louise Lovely to see you back in the cafe again. You weren't exaggerating when you said "loads". Love all of the designs and recognise a few of them from magazines I have - which is always inspirational. Love the piece for your DD and I am going to "borrow" your idea for coaster cards. I've made quite a few coasters but never thought of attaching them to a card. I've never seen anyone do this before - you could send them into one of the magazines and I think they would publish your letter and photos.

Ok crawling out from behind the sofa to say wow as normal to Louise. You've been so busy again you really put me tl shame.

On a stitching front I haven't picked up a needle for weeks although I did consider it lasg night but went to bed instead at 9.15 hence why I'm awake now typing this. Have a to have a minor op next month so may get some enforced "me" time then.

welcome to the new folk on here and look forward to the updates. Even if I dont post I do still trh to read the posts each day. Going downstairs now to make a cup of tea and might pick up my needle.

Well done on your achievements at the show.
    Good news about your back.
Hope the op goes well and you are able to make best use of the convalescence time
