I have managed to find buy a vintage 1920's wooden fire guard that has a large panel which has nothing in it but has a glass panel in the front (over the wood) and all for the princely sum of £2! However, I don't have a clue what design to stitch to put in it.
Has anyone ever stitched a piece for a fire guard and if so, what did you stitch?
What a fabulous find. I've never stitched a fireguard piece (not least because I don't have a fireplace) But almost any piece that was the right dimensions and suited your room would be fine. What size does it need to be? I would think a design that covers most of the fabric would be most suitable

nmm Lovely update and the bird card is very cute
sweetcarer Beautiful work as always. I noticed that mrsmilkybarkid has completed the Twisted Band Sampler. IT looks wonderful (as yours will)
jcs Fabulous work You have completed your remembrance piece very quickly
mrsceejay I don't think stitching lots of red will be the problem in a Man City crest :rotfl:0 -

Flower of Scotland beat me to it, the red Manchester team is a swear word in this house :rotfl:
I was going to stitch it at work as a surprise, it's gone in the cupboard for now whilst I decide what to do. :undecided0 -
JCS1, can you not use a smaller count fabric like 18 or 20, it will reduce the size of the project but maybe not good for your eyes :rotfl: Over the top is wonderful, I've completed all the half stitches on RF onto the poppy field now.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0

Hi ladies.
Mrsceejay. Spiderman looks great, I'm sure your Grandson will love it.
Mos. You lucky thing finding a firescreen for so little! I looked at one in the cs the other day but as it already had a cross stitched design in it, they wanted over £40 so I left it.
If I could get my hands on one I think I'd go for either a pattern design (like sweetcarers band sampler) or maybe a tree (like begs red tree)
Nmm. Nice RF progress and lovely birthday card too.
Sweetcarer. Nice progress, had to smile at the image you conjured up 'book in one hand, sock in the other'
Thanks Shelly, sorry the one you saw was so expensive
I was thinking of doing the following design as I have already purchased the chart but can't for the life of me work out if it will fit as it needs to be roughly 14 inches x 26 inches!

Do any of you Ladies have any idea if I can make this fit?
I am off to Hastings for the weekend and not sure if I will be able to get internet access so please don't think I am being rude if I don't respond until Sunday evening.
Hope you all have some lovely stitching time this weekend0 -
Hi all,
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, but have been reading along.
Louise - love the anniversary piece.
sweetcarer - your twisted band sampler and learning samplers are so lovely, so neat
fos - the bee cushion looks fantastic. Hope you find a suitable christening piece.
nmm - yes my crocheted cushion is using Lucy's ripple pattern. Almost finished now. RF is coming along nicely and the bird is really sweet.
mrs m-p - dictionary of home looks good - lots of detail in those pieces - I've bought greetings cards but I've not tried to stitch one yet!!
pm2326 - Elvis is looking fab.
Mrs ceejay - I'm sure your grandson will love Spiderman, he's great.
mos - well done on your bargain fireguard find. I've always fancied stitching one, but they are so expensive to buy. Not sure about sizing the design to fit - I'm useless at things like that - sorry!!
JCS1 - Over the top is such a poignant design. Your beadwork is fantastic.
As for me - a better week in that I wasn't laid up ill! Did get bitten to shreds on Tuesday though despite wearing deet. I should get danger money....
Haven't picked up Daisy Girl this week as I'm trying to finish my crocheted cushion. The cushion inner pad is sitting in the lounge ready to cover and I'm slowly taking over the corner of the room with various craft bags (one for cross stitch, one for knitting, one for crochet). This is why the spare room is going to be mine all mine very shortly. I need to find some storage boxes for my supplies. I want stiff cardboard that 'nest' - I don't want clear plastic lidded boxes as I don't want to have wool etc. on show. I've looked everywhere - Argos, Tesco, Hobbycraft, The Range, Ikea - no joy. Will probably find them when I'm no longer looking! If anyone has seen some please tell me!
DH and DS2 away on scout camp this weekend, so a quieter home life than normal. Will hopefully get some stitching/crochet done as a result.
Sorry for the long post and have a good weekend all
