    Hi ladies.

You all seem much more knowledgeable than me about pinterest so I want to know......why wouldn't I want my pics from here pinned?

My question is a serious one and not meant to be rude or sarcastic at all.
I'll be honest, all I know about the site is that it's like a big personal pin board.

My first thought was the same as mags and JCS, how do I opt out and if I can't opt out I'll have to stop posting pics. Then I thought why, why don't I want my pics pinned.....and I had no idea why!
I know that sometimes when I do google image searches pics from the Cafe can be seen there so why is this different?
If my pics are pinned are they linked to me in any way? can I be traced/found/contacted via them?
I know from clicking on the Cafe images in google you are brought here, to this site, so can be found/linked/contacted that way and I have accepted that so I wondered what is so different about pinterest.

    Thanks ladies.

Edited to add ~ I have requested to join the flickr group so I can post my updates there in future but would still be interested to hear your views on the above post.

Shelly, I have to say your post is very thought invoking. The reason I'm not keen is for any designs I've put together myself. I'm not so worried about kits I've stitched or charts I've used. My main concern is that people can copy from a finished design thus infringing the designers copyright.

Just my thoughts. Also as I said in my earlier post I think once pinned they can't be deleted.

I've just added another two pending members to our Flickr group.

One left - with a Flickr name I don't recognise from this group. If your Flickrname is "mi...xx" (characters removed to protect the innocent :) ) please send me a PM on here and I'll add you.

I don't know what to do for best. I know I have had some of my work already pinned on pintrest but the person asked me before hand. I am concerned that the designers might not like it - you know I do close ups - if anyone is that way inclined they might be able to copy. Oh I don't know.

Posting pics in the Cafe is one of the main things we love to do. Only had a quick skim of the posts relating to Pinterest and it has left my head hurting and totally :undecided.

  • Hi everyine. I've been too busy to read for the last couple of days so am just catching up

I am struggling to understand the objection to
Pinterst. As it says at the top of every forum page Anyine can post here. Which means that anyone can read any and all of our posts with or without photos

I must be missing something. I would be very sad if we all stopped posting our photos here:(

Nor can i see any of our photos on the MSE board ??

    Hi and welcome back

You can delete pins on your own boards but you can't edit other people's boards. You can report pins though and ask for them to be removed particularly if there is a copyright issue
  • Good morning cross-stitchers (as opposed to cross cross-stitchers :D)

I just wanted to share this link to what I think are some outstanding free :money: designs on the Chatelaine website

    http://chatelaine-design.de/newweb/cgi-bin/general.cgi?free-

I have stitched a couple of the intricate designs by this talented designer but did not realise that she had also made available quite a few small but beautiful designs free of charge.

My to do list is spiralling out of control ..................:rotfl:

OK, been mulling over for a few days:
    • If I wanted to post on Pin Interest I would do so myself
    • I'm fully aware that anyone can search and find pictures on here, I have no issue with that. But posting pictures automatically to another site is against the Privacy Policy in the T&C's of MSE as the clause only mentions text. I agreed to these T&C's when I signed up, MSE don't appear to be keeping their side.
    • Intellctual Property Rights/Copyright issues where we have stitched our own designs.
    • No control over what pictures get pinned - a few of us took part in the Sandy Hook squares and posted pictures on here and everyone was fully aware of the context (and people often stated how difficult they were to stitch and how tears were shed during - myself included). I would not want these being pinned to a board without the context (and especially where friends/family of the victims could find them and see them being used to "promote" another website)
    • Similar to above with personalised gifts we make, such as baby samplers, wedding cards, etc, with names and dates on. We also tend to post progress pics (reasonably) safe in the knowledge that the person concerned doesn't go on MSE, this is widening the possibility of someone seeing a gift whilst it's a WIP
    • Our hard work being used to promote MSE, where we wouldn't necessarily get any credit.
    • Lack of consultation/asking if it's ok before going ahead and setting it up
I know some of the above isn't fully rational :rotfl:(and probably goes totally against the quote of "happy to hear genuine, well-formed objections") but as you can probably tell I'm annoyed

I know that in the past some stitchers on here have had problems trying to match colours of thread in kits not stitched in DMC or Anchor so I thought I would share the link to this site where there are a number of floss conversion charts including from kit manufacturers such as Dimensions, Design Works, Candamar and Bucilla to DMC, Anchor, etc
