  • Hi Everyone

I found this thread a couple of weeks ago and have been following it since (some lovely pictures of work in progress by the way).

Unfortunately, thanks to following some links posted in this thread, I've just ended up buying a kit from Gecko Rouge that is about 22 x 28 inches (whoops!!).

I've only ever used the standard wooden hoops before but as this is such a big (and special) piece I thought there might be better frames out there to use. Can any of you give any recommendations? I've seen Q snap frames mentioned in other forums but don't know anyone that's used one.

    Thanks

Louise and some others on here use these lap frames for their projects, you can just fold the excess fabric at the sides. I personally use the handheld 11" square version, they are called R&R craft frames.

Thanks for this. Nearly got one of these frames but went for a roller one in the end as want to try and avoid scrunching my fabric up on this project (and it's massive!).

Got the frame from Sew and Sew as well though so could make use of the 15% discount they have on at the moment (thanks to whoever posted about that earlier).

fos - 'hello spring' is lovely in those colours. I love the sparkly evenweave! 'If I stitch fast' IS stitching up fast lol, to me anyway!!

JCS1 - your sewing box is lovely. What a difference the backstitch makes. Your next project looks fab, can't wait to see your progress photos.

Louise - love your Keep Calm, the red really sets it off.

nmm - I love the hoarder shows too! Think it scares me into not letting all my stuff get out of hand, although all the craft stuff is beginning to take over, oops!!

Ailsb - is the Sizzix machine a die cutting machine? I got a Sizzix Big Shot a few months ago and love it.

mrs-moneypenny - fab bargain on the mags!!

Emily926 - sampler is looking good, I love the bright colours and modern design.

Mrs_T_M - bunny is very cute. I'm so sorry that you're having such a tough time just now. Hope both you and bunny are ok? They have such big teeth, that could be sore!!

pm2326 - so glad you got your stitching mojo back.

BigBird - looking forward to seeing your Scarlet Quince progress shots. Have you looked at the 'parking your thread' method of cross stitching? You'll find demos if you google. I haven't tried it myself but it might be useful for a project like this with so many colours. Other people may be able to advise on it. No!!!! Don't tempt me with discount codes lol!

Mrs ceejay - peacock is looking fab! Not much left to do either.

Shaztastic - Welcome to the cafe. Can't wait to see your progress pics. After getting some advice on here I bought an R & R frame, actually, I din't buy it, it was an xmas present. Would def recommend.

I love the Christmas Tree one and also the Graduate though I don't think anyone in the family graduates this year. May well be tempted the following year

bigbird That is certainly a challenging project. I've stitched some large projects but nothing with that number of blended threads I agree that the park method would help and a working copy that you can mark off will be essential I'm sure it will look wonderful though

happysocks thanks for the code for sewandso. Am considering getting a Kreinik corder My friend has one and they are quicker than my method of using a door knob when making twisted cords for cushions and ornaments

mrs tm Bunny is very cute; sorry your living version hasn't been so kind

emily If I stitch fast is stitched on white 28 count Cashel linen which is my favourite xs fabric of all. I love the feel as well as the look of linen especially on designs where there is lots of fabric showing like this one.

Unpicking or reverse stitching as a friend of mine calls it is so frustrating but you are right to do it when you know that leaving the mistake would bug you. When I was stitching the heart wedding sampler I stitched a row of hearts one square out and there was no alternative to unpicking and re-stitching.

mrsceejay Your peacock is stunning I love the colours and I'm sure the bs will enhance it so be worthwhile

shaztastic welcome to the Cafe I would have recommended R&R frames as well but I'm sure the roll one will do the job. Looking forward to seeing your progress photos - you will have realised how nosy we are about each other's stitching progress.

    Which design did you choose?

Tiny bunny, but still big teeth. I'm a tiny bit sore, but bunny is a little more sore than me. She's still eating, drinking, and pooing (all over the living room!) so I know she is fine, just a bit pitiful at the moment.

Hoping to stitch a bit on my owls when I get back from the pet shop tonight!

Oh no just realised how long it has been since I have been in the Cafe - hadn't realised that it was over a week  - life has just got in the way. Will apologise now for going over old posts - so please forgive me whilst I catch up.

I think the brown butterfly is the same as one I've done recently. Drove me mad - I seemed to be constantly changing threads but the finished result was ok. :D

Hoping to get on with some stitching this weekend. Might try and get a little of Sleeping Beauty done as it's been sitting untouched for ages with only a few stitches completed. Oops.

Hope you manage some Sleeping Beauty. She will be worth it ;)

    Finished something at last!!:j

Lizzie*Kate's 'Let them be small', took about 5 nights of stitching but really easy to do.

Hoping to get back to my 'DMC threads' piece soon :D

Don't tempt me Louise. Even if I bought these new ones I'm probably still missing loads of DMC so I think I will leave it for the time being. :D

    hope all are well
im trying to crack on with lots of cleaning this week so i can have some extra stitchy time over the easter hols

I had hoped to get a wriggle on with extra chores this week to allow some chill/stitching time over the weekend - not really happening much so far. :o Got hairdressers appt in the morning for cut and hightlights so not many chores getting done then. I suppose I could leave dh a little list before i go out - worth a try I think. :D

    Back soon.

Abi has kindly given me permission to add a picture of her latest SAL here. The SAL costs £3 which I think is an absolute bargain. If anyone wants some more information let me know and I'll point you in Abi's direction.
