Now onto part 7 which involves square rhodes stitch, round rhodes stitch and diamond rhodes stitch.

I am thinking of making up a wee album with all the new stitches - with instructions and wee examples stitches beside the explanation - like a wee self help book.

Loving sampler updates. Great idea to do a little book of stitches.

Whilst googling "should I wash my cross stitch before adding beads" I stumbled across this site http://www.xstitch4u.com/acatalog/Tips.html which I thought contained some very useful information for all cross stitchers.

    Hope others find it interesting.

MrsMP - your cushion is lovely. This is your bridesmaid dress material isn't it? Your tulips are growing fast!

Now my update. Drum roll please..... I've finished Henry expect for the beads. Should I wash it before adding the beads or after washing it? Think I'm leaning towards washing first.

yes dress was worn by me over 40 years ago but connection with mum is that i was bridesmaids for my aunt (her sister) sadly aunt died about 15 years ago and mum had been very close to her. i dont think mum knows i still had the dress so it will be a surprise. she like personal keepsake/mementos so i hope ive done the right thing.

re beading i washed and pressed my blackwork angel and titanic before adding the beads to them

    hope all are well
    misty here this morning

  • Good morning stitchers on this foggy morning

mrsmp I like those Anchor variegated threads - I've used the perle as well as the stranded cotton and love the effect

nmm Like Mrsmp says I will miss BD when he (or she) is finished

sweetcarer Your learning sampler is beautiful. The book of stitches is a great idea - I think that was the origin of samplers (samples of various stitches) with alphabets being prominent because a lot of clothing and household textiles were marked with initials

Sorry to hear you aren't getting any support at work

ailsb Hope you will soon be fully recovered. I've stitched quite a few heavily beaded pieces over the years and wash before beading.
I love the effect of beads but don't enjoy adding them to pieces and almost always end up with beads spilling. I've tried various methods to help deal with this and find using a saucer for the beads can be useful and easier than the pots or bags they typically come in.
Really looking forward to seeing Henry and his wives finished and also your Home Sweet Home framed

Yes I do have a collection of coasters but they do get used

Thought the link was interesting but this "tip" made me smile - not the advice I need as I have lots of stash already :D

Stitch Stash or Buy It When You See It
Designers and manufacturers discontinue designs with no notice. When you see a designs/kit you like - buy it! It will save heart-ache later when you try to find it and cannot.
  • I think someone (emily?) was looking for a Little Prince birth sampler

Sewandso have this in their sale

They also have lots of other kits at really good reductions including quite a few Bothy Threads designs. Just saying.........

    Hi everyone,

I haven't posted in ages - sorry :o I do read every day.

I'm still going with the stockings (will post a pic on the next post as I need to use the Ipad for that). Progress is slow and steady. Still enjoying it though.

Love all the recent makes and WIPs. Ones that particularly caught my eye were Sweetcarers learning sampler, the cushion made by Mrs MP and the blackwork angel by JCS1, although I always enjoying see what others are making :D We are a talented bunch :)

The knit and natter group I belong to has really taken off. In recent weeks I have made green squares for a knitted Christmas tree, have crocheted a starfish for the Harvest service and I'm currently knitting poppies for the 100 year remembrance. DH thinks I've lost the plot!

I've got an interview next week at my local Hobbycraft eeeeek! It's for a part time general assistant role and is a group interview where we need to complete a group task. My DSis thinks we will need to make the Eiffel Tower from wool, buttons and decoupage :rotfl:She is not at all crafty and wouldn't be seen dead in there.

Anyway, I'll sign off now. The garden and sunshine are calling, so I wish you all a nice afternoon.

    You have been busy

    The stockings look lovely

Will you get staff discount if you get the Hobbycraft job? :D Good luck - do share with us what your actual group task is

Lucky you having sunshine - we are on the 3rd day of mist and fog lasting the whole day
