hope it was ok chicky even if you cant use it now
bit late to comment now beg as you'll already have gone but i would have stitched

did some tiger last night, going to have to slightly improvise on it as i think a couple of rows have been missed out in places but i think as the black stripes are all already done if i put the eyes in now i can work it to look ok. (i hope) promised myself a lazy day doing what i like but the ironing basket keeps looking at me.

    hope all are well

    Morning,

Was reading a cross stitch magazine, and one woman said her most useful stitching accessory was her ORT jar. Never heard of this before, so googled, and Old Ragged Thread jar - where you collect all your bits of thread when working on projects and make them into a display piece

Is this new to everyone else too?

never heard of an ort jar before, if im in the garden my snippings blow in the breeze and i assume get used in birds nests.
i think i have enough decent length threads to start other projects but it would be interesting to see what people create from their crossstitch ORT jars.
saying that i did use up all my too small to knit anything decent with but too big to throw away balls of wool making a fringed scarf.
basically you leave a tail knit a row long enough to be scarf length then leave another end next row is a different colour so you end up with a milticoloured scarf with fringed ends - looked ok.

the article save the stash from the trash under the random tab on that site is interesting reading

thank you for sharing it with us.

i don't think you many anything with the threads in an ORT jar as such. it's a decrative piece.
I've always fancied doing the same thing with a see-through christmas tree bauble or similar.
loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:

    Hi all

Not been on for ages as have been on holiday and when I got back have spent all my time in the garden tending to my veg and plants or washing everything that's not tied down seeing as we are having such gorgeous weather.

dad's birthday was on Tuesday and needless to say 'Let's do wine' wasn't finished in time but I showed him it when I gave him his other presents and he seemed really pleased with it. Just need to get it finished now but somehow my mojo has gone with it now I have missed the deadline:o.

Loving the beautiful makes everyone has been doing. They are absolutely stunning.

Sorry to those who have been experiencing difficulties, Winnie sorry to hear about your friend and Eric's mum hope your mum is better.

Anyway I will now endeavour to keep up now I am back.

Erk, I am so stingey with my thread that i have about 1cm left at the end (I poke mine through the needle with tweezers to use up as much as possible) that I just throw my bits away. Seems a big waste of money to me otherwise - but then I am tight!

Great minds Mrs MP. ;) Trouble is I very nearly got caught out - the recipient of Lets Do Wine popped around to see me this morning (whilst I was stitching) - all I can say is I didn't think I could still move as quickly. I just threw everything to one side, complete with needle and made sure it was covered. I'm pleased to say that everything, inc needle was still intact when I recovered it all again. Managed a little bit more this afternoon, but progress seems painfully slow. It just seems to be with this project as I could have quite happily picked up the free poppy card kit that arrived with WOXS and started that. Maisie - I sympathise with you. :)

    Take care everyone

    Hi ladies.

Bobbi. Noahs Ark looks great all framed up.

Mrsmp. What a fabulous bargain! Look forward to seeing pics of the Tiger Cub design and I'm sure you can make it look ok :)

JCS. Very nice Rosa update, she's coming along great.
Never heard of saving the off cuts of thread to display but I'm sure one of the ladies here in the Cafe saves hers and uses them as stuffing.

TMIF. You and me both! I use a needle threader to get the most stitches I can out of my thread and sometimes I can do such a good job at making the thread go far, that after securing the tail there isn't any to snip off :D Though it does annoy me when the thread goes fluffy and raggedy at the end and makes the stitches look ugly, I have to trim off much more than I would like.
