Hi everyone sorry I've been quiet. I have been looking at all your wonderful project on their way etc but never think to post *apologies*
Just wanted to share with you my finished sampler, all framed and ready to go up in our new house
This is lovely - a lot of work but very worthwhile0 -
maria_and_the_imps wrote: »Oh do share your stragies flowers we have moved to a new build top floor flat, with all the winter cold busting you can imagine as well as all the flats around us sharing there heat, so as you can imagine it is like an oven at the moment. I can't open the windows wide because of the kids (we are 3 floors up) we have the front room curtains closed most of the time because the sun rises at one end of the room and sets at the other but it is so hot! Cold showers galor!
Oooh not pleasant at all. I really don't do anything unusual - we have windows that open at the top and by keeping them open and the doors also open we can take advantage of any slight breeze. The kitchen is the worse room as it gets the afternoon sun so I try to avoid using the oven when it is very hot. We do have vertical blinds in there which are supposed to reflect the sun back. I also keep an oscillating fan in the kitchen to help disburse some of the heat.
Of course you will be glad of the insulation and additional heat in a few months' time0 -
No, they are only 5
The 3 of them met last year in primary 1 and have been best friends ever since that first day so it was just little gifts for them to remember their first year at school. We (the other 2 mums and I) plan to take a pic of them at the end of every year as they grow up together
FOC - I am keen to hear your strategies as well! I'm not good with heat, it sets off really bad headaches when I'm too hot, even when I'm not out in the sun
As well as keeping blinds and curtains closed, windows and internal doors open and using oscillating fans there is nothing to beat constant supplies of cold (iced) water. It is very easy to become dehydrated - I read somewhere that if you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. I loved the ice wrapped in towels that the tennis players had on Sunday. I haven't gone quite that far but I do have an eye mask that is kept in the fridge and is wonderful when it's really hot. And was it Marilyn Monroe who recommended keeping knickers in the freezer (before being worn obviously)? Haven't tried it myself ............:rotfl: Cold running water onto the inside of your wrist seems to have a cooling effect as does sitting with feet in the children's paddling pool0 -
Sorry to hear the update winniepooh
Louise :rotfl: Sorry making them old before thier time. Sorry I though they were in thier last year... Many more years of friendship before seniors them :T
Good luck Bargainfinder
So here is the finished heart, really like it! The different coloured threads look much better in real life but hey. Now need to frame it
Take care all :T0 -

All caught up not missed as much as I thought, you must all be out enjoying the sun, well the ones that like it anyway
My dogs are very sleepy with the heat and poor maxie the diabetic one, sort of collapsed from dehydration/exhaustion. I was walking her home and about 10m from our front door she could hardly walk, got her inside and she laid down for ages we finally got her to drink and she was much better. Quite scary though we are being much more cautious now.
Erics mum, Sorry to hear about your mum, I hope she is feeling better soon.
Winniepooh, so sorry for your loss, its a shame when someone sees no other way out ((hugs))
Gildius, the great wall is amazing, well done on finishing it :T
*Louise*, as i'm doing BD in page order it will be page 10 before his eye is complete, i'm only on page 7
PAP, the fur looks great doesn't itI wish I was going faster, I've done 6 pages since I started in april last year, there's 16 in total  I have done other kits in the meantime so not solid stitching but still that's quite slow compared to *Louise*

Cross Stich Crazy Issue 180 - September 2013
Free Gift 1 - 2 'Country Diary' Butterfly cards. Perfectly nice but I'm just not keen on this style.
Free Gift 2 - Greetings pack. Basically words to stick on the cards. I really like this, it's something a bit different and I will use them. :T
Cat in Hammock - This is a Margaret Sherry. Lovely summery design but not something I would stitch due to the BABS
CS Quickie - Another one for my collection. My son still loves waiting for these to arrive, that will be us halfway through now
Celebstitch - Benedict Cumberbatch. I'm afraid I had no clue who this was. Apparenty he is in Sherlock. Needless to say I won't be stitching this
50 Nursery Rhyme ideas.- LOVE these!!! Baby cards, Baby blocks, afghans, mini pictures - so much can be done with them. These will be kept and used
Laundry Set - Washing on a line, making a cothanger cover, laundry or peg bag. I like the designs but I'm too rubbish at normal sewing to make them up into anything
Craft Xtra - 2 first day at school designs. Cute but I won't need them for anyone.
Crazy for...school. Larger school motifs - pencils, test tubes, schoolbag etc
Butterfly ABC - Pastel shades, very simple to stitch
Weekend - Campervan designs. These vans seem to be really popular. Not really my thing but they are very bright and cheery looking, no backstitch either.
Bookmarks - I like the idea of these and might stitch one for my bookworm DDAlthough not the 'sleep less, read more' one because I already have to keep checking her and take her books off her at bedtime so she doesn't try and read using the streetlights! :rotfl:
Country Cottage - Very quaint and pretty but not for me
Matchbox mice -Little mice made up into tiny 'pillows' with covered matchboxes and stitched 'bedding'. Cute but if I'm totally honest...it would be too much faff for me
Pg 69 has some tips on successful framing. I put two pieces in last week, will cost £52 so it's good to frame things yourself where you can.
Floral greeting cards -They are flowers, they are for cards. Not much more I can go on about. Not for me though.
Challenge Lucie - Duck wearing a straitjacket, Ski jumper, long tailed tit, tattoo machine (!) suffragette motto, Kerry blue terrier....some random stuff there.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Just thought I'd quickly drop in to let you know Sleeping Beauty is finished. :j:j Bought huge frame from The Range and some mount board for hubby to work his magic (hopefully fingers crossed
). Still busy finishing off decorating stuff, appointments, taking Mum to a funeral tomorrow. I did find time today however to treat myself to a new hair do via groupon (1st time I have done this) and I must say I am well impressed. Hair cut (still similar style bob but much shorter than it was, two colours of highlights and blow dry = £14 (should have been £24 but groupon sent me a £10 voucher as I registered ages ago and never used them). Will have to look out for more deals now instead of just deleting the emails automatically.
Still haven't managed to catch up with all the posts as laptop has been out of action for a little while.
Take care eveyone
