  • Shelly, I love the design you are doing, where is the original from?

Nmm - BD is looking amazing, bet you are glad there isn't any back stitch! :D

Mrs-Ceejay - the dinosaurs are beautiful, did they take you long to do?

Mrs-Moneypenny, I can't wait to see how this turns out. I have been looking at these kits for ages but am never sure how easy they are to complete

I finally finished my stocking yesterday evening and just the back stitch to do  I am tempted to start my Christmas exchange stitching though as I keep sitting and looking at it, champing at the bit to start it and now I only have back stitch to do on my Dad's stocking it seems to be calling even louder to me :rotfl: here is an update.......

Sorry, didn't mean for the whole sentence to be bold, me and technology don't go very well together, I will try harder next time, promise! :-)
  • If anyone is thinking of buying hand dyed fabric then Crafty Kitten has a 10% off sale for the next few days. They also sell a nice range of charts and a few kits. I've used the site and love their fabric and hand dyed threads .

My head has been thumping since I woke up this morning - not helped by helping out with writing and numeracy in the primary 1 class this morning. Going to have a quick tidy round and lie down for an hour instead of stitching. :(Hosting a Halloween disco for 40 teenagers tonight so really need to clear my head and prep the buffet this afternoon

hope the headache clears and tonight goes well Louise

im making up a cross stitch pack for my friends DD from some spare stash - just a few skeins of thread, some adia and a book of charts but her mum says shes keen to take up the hobby but its too expensive if shes not going to keep it up. cant resist not giving someone the chance to enjoy it so am making her a starter pack.
will 12 different colours, and a few different hpi pieces of adia (ive not gone too small) along with a hoop and a book be ok do you think?
better add some needle as well i suppose or she wont get far!
    SPC~12 ot 124

  • Hi,
    M.o.s
After doing the mother and baby elephants which were about 15 different greys,(sent my eyes square) doing the little dinosaurs were a joy, took about 2weekes,so easy only a couple of half stitches round eye each,George's is a complete picture but Henry's is 2 card charts I put together and did abit of improvising with grasses.

mrsceejay, ive never done petit point but i understand that you stitch that over one thread by one thread rather than a 2X2 thread square so if i've understood it correctly you would get 4 petit point stitches to one 'normal' cross stitch.
they are like quarter cross stitches

please someone correct me if im wrong

cant wait to see BDs eyes, his fur already looks so lifelike

Looks lovely. As Mrsmp said Petit Point is cross stitch done over 1 thread instead of the usual 2 when you are stitching on evenweave.

    My tips:
    • use a magnifier and really good light
    • be aware of your tension - it is very easy for the floss to slip behind the thread of the fabric

Alternatively try stitching in normal cross stitch and see what you think of the effect - it will probably look fine and no one but you (and the Cafe members) will know it was meant to be different :D

What a lovely idea. It's great to get another generation stitching and if she likes it you are giving her a gift that will last a lifetime. The only other thing she will need is scissors. Do you know what sort of designs she likes? As you know there are lots of free patterns available to download and print out. I think the main thing is to stick to small uncomplicated patterns to start with. My SiL decided to take up xs and without speaking to me (she lives miles away and we're not close) she bought a Gorjuss kit on darkish aida  Unsurprisingly she found it difficult and gave up. Such a shame
