Has everyone gone to bed for the day? Not a bad day here once the rain had given up. Our poor doorbell got water logged and sulked. After several people rang us to say that they had called round but we seemed to be out the Rev put a notice on the door to say, "Bang on the inner door." Great. People now bang on the inner door and walk in!
Re: people suffering bad things bravely but fussing over small things, when my DS2 was in hospital aged 6 he had horrible things done to him and he was in excruciating pain. The nurses marvelled at the fact that he never cried once. On the day of his discharge he got cramp in his knee and the whole hospital knew about it.
Next week is my horrid week. Lunch for 70 on Wednesday and the church magazine to be written, printed, collated and stapled by Friday. I may not be around here much.
Good news Lyn. They will all be able to draw breath and wait for the next crisis. It sometimes makes you wonder why we do it doesn't it? No, not really. they are worth every fraught moment.
Well, that's it for the moment. Hope someone else comes avisiting soon.

Remember to have a rest Monnogran!
Well DH got invited for a second interview tomorrow after his first today, which has to be a good sign, right? Keep your fingers crossed. It's a 12 month contract again but I would be so relieved to not be worrying about how on earth we're going to pay the mortgage.0 -
Hello monnagran (and anyone else reading??) What a quiet day on here, hope peeps are ok? Well as no-one else is posting, I am free to bore you all (insert big grin similie.)
Survived a visit to the shoe shop. You have to take a ticket like on a deli counter and wait your turn. My 2 have always been a nightmare in this shop (there have been many changes of shop assistants over the years.... wonder why?). Other children sit and wait sedately. Mine..... do not... nuff said.
DS9 has gone up to a 4 and a half. He is nearly my shoe size now! We only needed a single pair of trainers but school shoes will be needed soon and DS7 ditto. Then there will be the plimsoles and wellies etc. Just thinking about the cost brings me out in a cold sweat. I tell DH we need several pairs of new footwear soon, he barely registers what I am saying. My brain is already totting up the ££s and thinking about remortgaging.
Went to the library but forgot the library cards- cue long faces, Treated us all to a cheap burger as DS7 started to look peaky and needed something to eat. Then DS9 all eager to do the £shop challenge, DS7 wants to go home. Can't be doing with sibling squabbles today. So we do one nearby £shop...
and DS7 drops his coin on the floor. He is always fiddling with money. I warn him and he drops it again. I scrabble about for a ridiculous time under a dirty cabinet (the exact same one he dropped a pound another day) I can't see it. I have no more change (other than car park pound) and tell DS sorry you will have to come in again another time. Fellow shoppers glare at me as if I have just told him there is no Santa. What a drama over a blimming pound.
DH informs me he is going on (his first ever) work trip abroad in the summer. The uni run some courses in another euro country. DH doesn't have a passport (to the utter amusement of his colleagues) as we haven't been able to go abroad for years. Bit peeved that we have to pay for said passport. On the other hand they are announcing who is being made redundant in May and the trip is in July so surely they intend to keep DH on??
Post bought the news that I have official excusal for my upcoming jury service, Hugely relieved. I know I might be called again but have at least a 12 mth breather. (insert jumping smilie)
DH's boss has suggested he work from home tomorrow and he is going to try and get a GP appointment (at long blooming last.) I know he is shattered but he is like a grumpy old bear woken up from hibernation early. Trying to remember my marriage vows and not resorting to whacking him with a rolling pin. We love each other really but it sure ain't all romance and flowers, it's the real life version!

Good luck in advance for next week Monna....please pace yourself. Here if you need to scream!

SQ You did the right thing ignore the looks from other people they are the ones that will pay for not bringing up their children properly.
I have been reading a couple of things that were on my FB page this morning. One was called an obituary to commonsense and the other was a blog post about mums not being prepared for everything once in a while as consequences are a very good teacher of independence.
We have come to the point where mothers are expected to do everything for their offspring so they are not learning about personal responsibility and independence.0 -
SQ given that children grow ridiculously fast and things like wellingtons and plimsoles are never even a little bit worn when they become too small, wouldn't it be a good idea for someone to start a Wellington Library where you could just borrow a pair in the right size? would save everyone lots of money and lots of trips to shoe shops. A charge as a deposit would ensure that borrowed pairs were returned when a bigger size was needed. Wellingons don't need fitting, so no harm to growing feet, it would help everyone wouldn't it? Lyn xxx.
WooHoo it's babies all the way down here!!! My two doors away neighbour just knocked to say her daughter gave birth to a little girl last night, she was at school with DD2 so they're all managing to have their babies just before they're 30. Little one is Amelie Lily Mary , and mum is very tired, such happiness, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all
Good luck Mr Possession - fingers all crossed here!
SQ - if work want DH to go on this trip can they not provide towards the passport cost?
It's lovely and sunny here today, washing is on the line and I feel so much more upbeat. DH has noticed my mood is very low in the gloomy weather and has suggested maybe looking into a SAD lamp, I've never suffered before but I really am struggling this year (no surprise really with the gloom we've all had).
DDs are still in bed, such is the want of teenagers. They've been up and about all week but said today was their proper duvet day. DD1 has work at 4-10pm so I'll wake them in a bit so I can give her a cooked lunch. Typically if they'd got up we could have gone to the zoo as its nice, theyve been nagging all week to go but it's been to wet. Ah well.
I've seen that interest rates are likely to go up in 2015 so I need to sit with DH and work out some figures, I'd like an idea of how much our mortgage will go up by. Better to be ready eh?
I've had a commission for a quilt so I need to start getting bits together for that, I've got 2 crochet baby blankets to edge and I've been playing with a new graphics programme to design some papercuts, just need to find the time to actually get on with it all, I swear the messy fairies visit during the night and seriously mess its my house. Nasty fairies."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Pooky I've seen some lovely papercuts for sale on Facebook, I wondered how they were doing it. I've actually ordered a family tree one for DH's grandparents' birthdays. If I'd known you were going to do it I'd have waited!
DH said the interview went well, so just waiting now. Although he's still waiting to hear about the 2nd interview from 2 weeks ago so who knows.0 -
Fingers' crossed for some good news soon Possession.
Lovely to hear more baby news Lyn.
Thanks grandma. I could have bought more items with my card (need mininum spend to use cards in the shop) but decided it was a lesson DS7 needed to learn. He accepted it gracefully but with a sad face and DS9 immediately offered to share his purchase (one of those grass growing heads where you give the man a "haircut"!)
Yeah Pooky you would think work would stump up for a passport but DH insists they won't (hasn't even asked) as he could use it for personal travel. Grrrr. Oh well if we can ever afford a holiday abroad, one less passport to buy!
back in a mo

Is that your 1st commission pooky? Well done! I am also concerned about the interest rate, we will manage somehow as our mortage is fairly small (but still enough to be concerned about.) If we ever move as we would like to then I would really worry as we will never get a deal as low as the one we have now for various reasons or a house as cheap.
Love your idea Mrs LW, just my sort of thing! I give away all DS7's too small wellies to a friend with a DS aged 5 and anything over is snapped up eagerly by the school (every child needs a pair for the weekly woods sessions.) I have a couple of friends who also kindly pass on their old bits as they know I will find a home for them. Unfortunately DS9 has big feet so none of the handme down wellies fit! As for plimsoles he has very narrow ankles and last time I had to buy Clerks trainers at £32 (in the SALE) as an alternative to plimsoles!!!
DH has offered to take a quick break from home working to pop round the shops and take boys with him so they can stop off in the park as well. meanwhile I am going on cat/fox poo patrol in front and back garden... clothes peg to the ready
