Taking a break from all the things I've GOT to do to do a few things I WANT to do.
Lyn: Children's shoes are a sore point. Mia has reached the stage of wanting to walk everywhere and DIL, quite rightly, insists that she has properly sized shoes. Unfortunately at 17 months she grows as you watch her and these shoes are £30 a pop. I think this is outrageous and have advocated the old Japanese custom of foot binding. Didn't go down well.
Spent most of the day messing about with the car having its MOT. Just failed on a tyre so not too bad but it meant a great deal of coming and going.
My lovely butcher, who never turns a hair at my strange requests, is supplying me with 15lbs of braising steak at catering rate for my lunch club meal this week. With the addition of lots of bulking out veggies I am hoping that it will comfortably feed 70. I'll casserole the meat and dump, I mean carefully place, a large spoonful on every plate topped with a puff pastry oval and hope that it almost resembles a steak pie. Served with mash and more veg. Pudding is chocolate concrete with chocolate sauce. Filling and warming I thought.
We have a young girl at the Drop-in who is a recovering alcoholic. She has been told that she will be dead in 2 years if she doesn't stop drinking so she has just done 12 days in re-hab and is now trying to make it on her own. How the authorities expect this to work I don't know. She lives on her own in what she calls 'my flat'. From what I've seen from the outside it is a complete slum. There is a broken pane of glass in the window which has an old mattress propped up against it keeping out a bit of the cold and most of the light. Tomorrow I'm going up there to see what's what. I don't know what's going to meet me. I asked what she had in the way of cooking equipment and after a bit of thought she said triumphantly, "I've got a kettle." No-one has ever taught her to cook, clean or handle money. I wonder why, instead of spending all their time trying to find flimsy excuses for stopping their benefits, nobody is teaching these folk the basics of life. A lot of them have grown up in care or pushed around in families that hardly deserve the name and have not a clue what 'normal' life is.
However, I'll get down off my soap box and go and look out some surplus cooking stuff. Thankfully I only have to mention this at the Drop-in and I bet most of what this dear girl needs will be found.
The Rev has just come in and has shouted that she is making me a cup of tea. She obviously thinks that I have been toiling away over the church magazine. Shall I tell her? Naaaah.

Monno, what a good and kind person you are, God bless you.
I do hope the young girl manages to turn her life around.
Much love

Possession - I've just designed a family tree one - still playing with it at the moment. I think a lot of paper cut designs are hand drawn but I'm not in that league so I'm happy to play with a graphics program and a drawing tablet - it's a bit of a learning curve but I'm getting there - luckily DD1 is a whizz with all these things so when I get stuck I do a pathetic little call for help
SQ - Its my first "business" commission - Whoohoo!
I used to do the welly swap with friends - plimsoles too - they get so little use. I'm glad my DD's are older now, although I did have a little pang of sadness earlier when I ironed DD2s uniform - she's got less than 50 school days left before she leaves for college. I think secondary school whizzes by, I'm sure it was only last week they were 6 and 8 and getting in to all kinds of mischief.
DD1 is doing really well in her little car - she gets a black box fitted next week and if her driving is good and steady then we get some of the insurance premium back - she's a fab little driver so fingers crossed for a bit of cash back."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. We have been doing the usual stuff, DS9 still poorly so we havent been out too much, did manage the cinema earlier to see the Lego movie which DS loved, DD7 fell asleep though so I think she may not be as recovered as we hoped.
Our breeder hasnt been in touch or replied to my email or text, I dont want to push too hard so am waiting patiently (well trying too!) she was going to send the paperwork though on Monday.
We have however been given the details of another breeder who we are visiting tomorrow to see her kitties0 -
Thanks for the warning kittie x
Posession fingers crossed.
we finally left the house on wednesday, took the boys to the cycle track and they loved going on the kmx's. Thursday met an old friend at play centre with OH so that was good, busy though. Today went to my friends house today, all the children were completely spoilt rotten. they put an thor on for ds1 so he was happy. Weird, thing was turns out my OH worked with my friends husband. Small world eh?
The kids loved all five of them were happy chilling, playing, I got lots of cuddles off the twins. They are so adorable.
they got ds2a card.and cake for his birthday so had a mini tea party, it was really nice. Completely unplanned.
its ds2 birthday on monday can't believe he's going to be 10, where has the time gone.
im gutted about his birthday party had to cancel it, council told us he was to old to use the bouncy council. So we promised to hire him one when the weathers warmer. instead were taking him bowling. Think it will be £25 for two games. During the day we'll play games as hes off school, pd day, ds1 is at, school though.
finally got paid so spent £27 in aldi, got a 2kilo, chicken for £4.99. So making a roast over the weekend.0 -
