MrsL do they not do babies in lbs and ounces any more? If somebody said my grandbaby was 3 kgs I'd scream and rush over to the SCBU !
Ezra's birth weight is just over 7 lb (I just googled it!) I am a generation younger than you mar and I still use imperial for most things. I worked in a old fashioned haberdashers/general store and later an old fashioned greengrocers as Sat jobs so imperial has stuck for me. I try to use metric a bit for the kids' sake though
GREAT NEWS Mrs LW! Onwards and upwards for DD and her little family.
off to finish making bangers and mash.... mmmm0 -
My two babes were 3.13 kgs (6lbs 14.5 ounces) and 3.2 kgs (7lbs 1 ounce). The first is now 5 feet 2 inches tall and curvy but petite, the second is 5 feet 10 inches tall with hollow legs. Despite working in metric weights and measures in my job, things still mean more to me in Imperial measures. One life - your life - live it!0

Hooray for baby Zebra!

Moments of Sanity what a lovely post, welcome, we'd love for you to chime in whenever you'd like (not least because you brought cake;) )0 -
Forgot to say, Princess have you seen on the home page of MSE that there is a list of 50 tips for weddings without debt? Might be worth a glance if you haven't seen it already.0

I made a big effort to get used to metric when my DDs were born as I knew they would be taught metric at school. But imperial is more user friendly inasmuch as it divides easily by 2, 3, 4 or 6, not just 10, 5 or 2. And a lot of our traditional recipes are based on ratios that work easily in imperial measurements eg crumble mix is 6:3:2 flour, butter sugar. And marmalade is 2lb oranges, 4 pints water 4lb sugar. Those measurements don't translate easily into metric because 1lb is less than 500 grams whereas 1 pint is more than 500ml. So I still use imperial measurements a lotIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Lyn: That is brilliant news. In the olden days, when you were kept in the maternity hospital for 10 days, all these things were sorted before you came home. I remember the general jubilation when the baby got back to its birth weight. Not me personally you understand, but I knew plenty of women who went through it.
Talking of olden days I still prefer imperial to metric and most of my recipes are in imperial. I do have a few that seem to mix them with some ingredients given in one and some in the other.
Now, if you really want to give yourself a fright try converting decimal money back to pounds, shillings and pence. The horror of finding that you are spending 12 shillings on a stamp or over a pound for a newspaper! 18/6d for a very small bar of chocolate had me hastily returning it to the shelf.
The first of our removal men came round today and didn't faint at what we were expecting them to move. Mind you, he hasn't seen the contents of the Rev's shed - the one with the fitted carpet - just looked at it through the patio door and said, "Oh yes. tools and things." It's the 'and things' that will turn his hair grey.
Another one due tomorrow.
To bed at a reasonable time tonight.

We still do that monnagran, just so that we can roll around the carpet laughing at the prices.
I have to confess now. I did an experiment on the RV. I went to Iceland and got some frozen stuff - remember the famous faggots? - and beef olives and a chicken roast. And none of them were nice at all, after so long on home made food. So I think it proves that cooking from scratch even with my horrible skills, is better. The RV says it just proves that I can turn anything into a disaster.
I think the best food in this house comes out of the crock pot, because then i don't get to do anything with it apart from chuck it in.0 -
I'd be suggesting to the RV that he take over cooking duties Mar...0

O god GB, I couldn't stand the drama. A 6ft macho Scottish male in a full-on teenage tantrum is not a pretty sight. All that screaming and door slamming and Greek tragedy posturing...and then we'd live on fried egg sandwiches forever
:D

I have indeed FPK! I’ve also saved a copy! Handy to know some of the hints & tips. Maybe Martin or the OS Ladies & Gents should do “how to get married on a shoe string whilst you have debts” I for one could relate lol. X
Lyn, That’s fab news about little chap. Babies like to often give us all a little scare just to keep us on our toes. Onwards & upwards now little man…. Please keep the updates coming & our best wishes to mummy & daddy. X
Nutty: How’s your mum? Hope everything is well with you?
Busy day here today with appointments from home & what not. I’m also surfing the net to find some cushion covers for the front room. Ours have gone to cushion heaven, But everything new is VVV expensive. So I have contact our local C/S to see if they have any & it seems that everyone has the same idea or in the middle of redecorating. So World of Bay might be my best bet.
Dashing off now, Need to make a start…. xxFuture goals:
Become debt free.
Beat Depression.
Be happy & healthy0
