Unsweetened apple sauce or grated eating apples help sweeten cakes. You may just need to reduce the amount of other liquids.

Afternoon all - hugs where needed or appreciated X

Just back from the hospital where the kids have had their annual liver and kidney ultrasound and pleased to say all looking good. When we got back the report from the paed had arrived in the post and apparently genetics think they have found DD's causative gene and it is a new one - just need more bloods to check.

Finally home, and its turned bitterly cold with fine rain and winds. Took mum to visit my dads grave, she hasn't been for a while due to being ill. Will arrange to find a planted tub to go there as the flowers done last. We ended up going into the coop with DD and has a cup of tea. I thin she enjoyed just being out of the house for a bit.
Tomorrow is aldi day, we will go there and get the bits n bobs. For the next 2 weeks I will have to go on the Wednesday as I will be working the following 2 Thursday mornings along with lots more days. I am so stretching myself at the moment, my mum needs me, work is busy and I am still mum to my girls. Luckily hubby helps if he can.

Mrs LW I remember the days after having my daughter it is such a life changing time. I was told never have the house really quiet that way little one wont expect it all the time. Even the radio on low helps. Not sure how, but it did for us.

    That is good advice Nuttyp.
I do remember those first days.
My DD had three month colic and didn't settle for hours, crying - screaming - all evening. I know NOW exactly what caused it, she was breastfed and I was drinking cows' milk by the litre, thinking I was doing her good.
Of course, that's a known colic trigger but 35 years ago we didn't have that info.
What we did have was a baby screaming for hours on end during the evening, every evening.

We were out in the middle of nowhere in Germany with no family support. Just the other day the SSAFA Facebook page asked for Seventies memories of its staff and I put a tribute to the SSAFA Health Visitor who literally saved my sanity. Along with Infacol.

She was called Sister Bandy (pronounced Bundy) and I will never forget her.
Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.
  • Evening all,

Tired here, but much work was accomplished.

Mrs. LW, I hope you can make it to see your DD. I'm sure time for a nap while baby is in trusted hands, or even a little help with some basic chores and someone else to make her a cuppa while baby's dad is at work will surely help. It will probably also help to have someone tell that it will pass!

SDG, it can't hurt to apply. If it doesn't work out or you feel you can't cope at the time you can always change your mind.

Right. I'm exhausted so its off to bed for me.

    Hugs.x

I am typing this with crossed fingers. Yesterday I got to the computer very late but wrote a long post anyway - little trooper that I am - when suddenly the screen went blank, came back on a completely different programme, flashed about for a bit and came back here with my lovely post consigned to the great dustbin in the sky. Ah well, it's all character building.

Managed to get up the High Street and back in the dry this morning but wowee! what a day. It's been as black as night with the occasional hurricane and monsoon here. I did a bit this morning but confess to wrapping myself in my blanket on the sofa and reading a book this afternoon. It felt delightfully decadent.

FairyP, SDG and Grandma: thank you all for your help re: diabetic puds. I could make the tea loaf and serve it warm with cream or diabetic ice cream. It would make a change from sugarfree jelly with or without fruit set in it.

Lyn: Your poor DD. It's not only the physical exhaustion but the tremendous mental re-adjustment of a completely different way of life. I obviously had no physical problems but I did spend the first few weeks coming to terms with the fact that this awesome responsibility was mine for the rest of my life and that my life would never completely belong to me again. A visit from you will give her a bit of respite and perhaps a few hours sleep. Everything looks better after a snooze.

Right, the rain is lashing against the windows again and the wind is screaming round the house. I am going to get into my nice warm bed and try not to think of those I know who will be trying to keep dry under bushes or in doorways. I feel so guilty...........:(

Anyway, I have a book to finish.

Lynn hope you manage to see dd, its a massive shock to the system. dd will love just you being there, I know I did with my mum. Fingers.crossed she will get some sleep tonight.

Monogran its abitterly cold night, i've heard 2 extra shelters have been opened here and more hot food vans to cope with.demand. Would hate to be out in this weather.

went to visit a lovely lady today and her two of adorable children. This is the one who I was really nervous about seeing. But it was very chilled we just chattered and played with the kids.
Picked ds2 up and used my last £10 on essentials and a very naughty taxi.
The gales, where throwing us, on the road, poor kid nearly got knocked over about six times. So thought no its to dangerous, its the price on the bus and oh said good job you taxi, cars were being flung all over.

came back and went to my dads, poor.thing has the noro.virus so made him have drinks and hopefully to normal in 48 hours.

Wel going to have a look on the forum :)

That's a bit alarming jem, have you tried making yourself eat a piece of fruit or some crackers?
Lyn I hope DD manages to get a bit more rest soon. It is overwhelming and exhausting and when your milk comes in a few days after the birth is the worst time. I remember crying for a whole day when in hospital after DS was born.
  • Thanks for all your kind words and good wishes for DD2 and Ezra, she gets a midwife visit today and I'm hoping that she will get some support and good advice to help them cope a little better. I know it is overwhealming after a normal birth and there are extra complications when you've had a c. section so hoping for a phone call later on and hearing her not cry!!! Poor kiddler, Lyn xxx.
